It's not about being a good person because racism makes you feel bad.
At a recent Black Lives Matter rally, I saw a middle-aged woman come nervously to the microphone. She began to speak about her white privilege. While she chided herself for past wrongs and oversights, she said next to nothing about the events that called the rally forth: the police killings of innocent black women and men, and the failure of the justice system to hold the killers accountable.
Perhaps she didn't address these issues because she feared that in doing so, she would come across as a racist, say the wrong thing, or put something the wrong way. Perhaps the mostly black audience would view her as attempting to co-opt their protest.
It's a crucial first step that white people recognize white privilege, but that alone isn't enough. What's more, luxuriating in our own suffering doesn't engender social change. Here's a stale paradox: self-flagellating about white privilege is an expression of white privilege.
Yet no amount of flagellation, nor even critical awareness, can divest white people of our privilege. It is something we are given, every day and on a repeated basis, without asking for it. It is imposed, even if we don't want it. The officer gives us a warning, instead of a ticket. We beat out a better qualified person of color for the job, but we're kept ignorant of what happened. When we go clothes shopping, no one follows us through every store.
The way to end white privilege is to challenge the institutions that render its bestowal compulsory, such as the police, the legal system, the prison, and the law.
The Black Lives Matter movement is a black movement....

BTW, my “white privilege” has cost me many a second job interview. This androgynously named prof can go bleep himself.
I can recall three times in my work career where a lesser qualified black was promoted over me because of the need to advance minorities in key positions. This is what white “ privilege has done for me so I guess my experience was the justified result of pre-1960’s corporate America. My privilege also allowed me to work 60 plus hours a week, sacrifice family and health, while others put in 40 hour weeks and expected promotions. This professor needs to get out of the protected classroom and see the real world.
I wonder if his husband is black?
It’s amazing how you can get eviscerated for being racist if you make a benign, generalized comment about blacks.
But whites can be painted with the broadest of ridiculous brushes (aka “white privilege”) with impunity.
That racism is a one way street would in itself be considered racist in a sane world, but that’s not the world Leftists inhabit.

My wife is a foreigner with no experience with Black Americans. She was pen pals with Black Africans. She worked in a branch office of an insurance company with all kinds of people and saw first hand the arrogance, entitlement and disrespect the American Blacks had. They knew the couldn’t be fired for arriving late, leaving early after taking long lunches.
The Filapinas right off the boat busted their butts. The Armenians busted hump, everyone but the Blacks. I guess we’d call Black privilege now. Let’s just say her attitude toward Blacks doesn’t leave much too for the benefit of doubt.
Who’s fault is this attitude?

I don’t allow white people to lecture me on how bad it is to be white, especially since I self-identify as a black lesbian.
That has been my observation too. If you are Black, you get a lot of slack. People are far less likely to call you on issues or shortcomings, or even argue with you, for fear of looking like a racist. Basically, you nearly have to ruin the company or organization before you get fired. I think almost all Blacks realize this, but some really take advantage of it. Conversely, people know this, which is why most organizations can only tolerate a few of these individuals—making it totally unfair to those Blacks who really want to work and get ahead on the merits. This is something that is real, but never gets discussed.
I will have to try that sometime. If someone can self identify as another gender, why not another race?
You see, there is no way to escape your White Privilege and White Guilt. Nothing you can do can eliminate it.
This is justification for liberals denying jobs to Whites, making them pay full college tuition, handicapping them in college admission, denying them government contracts and slowing them down in promotions in favor of unqualified non-Whites.
If being white mattered, albinos would rule us all.
If not believing that blacks are special snowflakes who are not to be held accountable for lawless behavior, or have to be given special precedence, or given livelihoods from the public treasury makes me a racist, and privileged, then so be it.
My White father married my White mother and formed a family unit. They both taught me right from wrong and punished me for doing wrong and rewarded me for doing right. They taught me values and self responsibility. I wasn’t privileged because of this; it was the norm for families before the liberals started destroying the family structure and the only reason that there Are more White families that still follow the same trend is because it wasn’t the poor Whites that the Liberals decided to “help”. Blacks and others are being robbed of it by those who sire them and then neglect the duties and responsibilities of parenthood.
I have a simple question about “white privilege”.
How many laws, statues, regulations, policies and pressure groups are out there that discriminate against whites?
There are requirements that a certain percentage of civil service jobs be given to blacks and other minorities regardless of their population (local/state/national) make up. The same thing applies to college admissions.
So where, in reality, is the “white privilege” that so many white liberals are writing about?

I don’t know what the eff this guy means about getting the job instead of giving it to a “more qualified minority” just because I’m white.
Truth is, if you take a job that requires a civil service test, minorities get ten free points, and women get ten free points. Therefore if you are white and score a hundred points, a perfect score on a civil service test, you will lose the job if a minority woman scores 81% or better.
White privellege my arse.
