The concept of white privilege remains controversial in the same way people still argue about climate change. A small, increasingly-fringe faction might argue that it doesn't exist at all. Another broad, more conservative group might concede that it does, technically, exist, but still disagree about what it means, whether it's important and what, if anything, we can do about it.
Still, many others would argue that acknowledging and working to understand it is an important step toward fixing the problem -- in the case of white privilege, the problem being compounded, inter-generational inequality that, although sometimes subtle, is still present in the everyday lives of people of color.
Even if we concede that white privilege -- the idea that being born white comes with certain inherent advantages -- is "controversial," does that mean the topic shouldn't be broached in a college course?
According to one white Lone Star College-Tomball student, the concept is just too offensive -- offensive enough to file a complaint against his professor, according to Channel 2.

Why would anyone buy this paper? The liberal bias is worthy of Pravda 20 years ago.
This “white privilege” is absurd, at least insofar as my mom’s family was concerned. I get the bit about the horrors of slavery. And we should have concerns about past injustices. But on another level the idea strikes me as absurd. My mom’s dad died in 1935. Her mom was left with nine children, my mom, her five sisters and three brothers. They were poor, abjectly poor. My mom (God rest her soul) often told me that if they didn’t grow it they didn’t eat it and if they didn’t sew it they didn’t wear it. They were basically sharecroppers living a day-to-day hardscrabble existence. Her three brothers were all in the U.S. Army during WW II. The eldest jumped at Sicily and Market Garden with the 82nd. The middle brother fought in the Philippines. The youngest was with the 11th Airborne and occupation forces after the war. My mom informed me that her mother didn’t have a good night’s sleep in over fifty years. I can only imagine what she’d think when her head hit that threadbare pillow after a hard day’s toil, never knowing if she’d get a telegram from the War Department informing her that one of her precious boys had been killed. God, they were tough. People should take this into account when writing or speaking of “white privilege.”
They need to stop teaching fictional things as facts
I turn the concept on its head.
I was recently asked, “You’re a conservative, what’s your take on white privilege?”
My answer. “Oh, it’s a huge advantage for whites.
I mean, the government targets poor whites too, but nothing like they do blacks. The welfare society and abortion mills have created a huge advantage for whites...Hispanics too.... by keeping the black man down.
It’s almost a genocide what’s being done to black communities. OF COURSE you’re at a huge advantage when you realize the target isn’t on your head.
The facts are undeniable. The two consistent ladders out of poverty are work and marriage to raise children, so the government devised a welfare program that prohibits both. It’s like they went out of their way to keep the black man ‘on the reservation’. Of course, look at Indian Tribes. It’s not like the federal government doesn’t have a history of targeting people based on race.
Right?
And when you know that 1/3rd of white and Hispanic babies are aborted, but more than half of all black babies are aborted, and most abortion clinic are in black neighborhoods, you come to realize that aborting white and Hispanic babies is just an unintended consequence of the system. Wait, maybe it IS an actual genocide happening after all...
White privilege. Absolutely. Thank God the government’s only interested in my guns. I don’t know what I’d do if they were targeting me like they do blacks...”
Any minorities out there who want some "white privilege" can pass
on the Affirmative Action and step up to the plate of life.
{{{crickets}}}
You nailed it DR .
It's an "alternative" weekly, and there are like, four people on the staff [all "editors" of course.]
So apparently one person on the staff doesn't believe in white privilege. Frankly, I'm shocked.
I’ll admit I was blessed to grow up in the home/family that I did.
My dad worked hard to provide well for us. My mom stayed at home and managed the home. I was loved. Not like I wanted to be, but treated well. My dad worked too much for me to be close to him. My parents were not religious, but of high moral values.
My parents passed on to me my values - those of “The Greatest Generation.”
Was that because I was white? NO!!! Emphatically NO!
Because I know of black families that grew up with the same setting.
The blessing had nothing to do with my skin color, and everything to do with my family’s character and values.
It is racist to say the blessings I received were because I was white.
Black is all pigments. It is the absence of color.
This Dumb checklist (from the article):
Here are some of the common checklist items:
- I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed.
- I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the paper and see people of my race widely represented.
- When I am told about our national heritage or about civilization, I am shown that people of my color made it what it is.
- I am never asked to speak for all the people of my racial group.
- If a traffic cop pulls me over, or if the IRS audits my tax return, I can be sure I haven’t been singled out because of my race.
- I can take a job with an affirmative action employer without having coworkers on the job suspect that I got it because of race.
REALLY makes me see that this is JUST SOME BAGGAGE in SOME LIBERALS’ HEADS. Someone needs to tell them to: GET OVER IT!
Non-whites who focus on self-improvement, self-achievement, and personal responsibility don’t worry so much about being “underprivileged”.
Political correctness is now hypocritical, assuming that men are inherently bad (violent) compared to women, whites are inherently bad/evil/domineering over darker people and thus need to be lower on the totem pole. Thus black women and Hispanic women are elites, black and Hispanic men in the middle, white women below them, white men horrible, evil people except when you need them to fight wars and put out fires for you.
But before we even get to the question of why there are Nazis on the staff of a public college, we should ask: why is this course being offered to begin with? What does this have to do with:
We are not even selling the noose to the hangman, we are handing it to him and allowing him to put it around our childrens' necks without the slightest pushback.
Blacks need to be reminded that voting is acting white.
I’ll see both of your good points and raise you: the concept of white privilege doesn’t merely profile and it is not useless. It is a specific purposeful weapon of hostility for whites, a new term to focus envy against whites for their privileges. The beauty of it is also, instead of talking about white racism, which draws distinctions based on the victim’s particular color or ethnicity, it is a catch-all that all the victim groups can adopt as their own clarion call to take privilege from whites.
They are not satisfied with “equality”; they won’t be happy until they have hounded white Americans into persecution.
We are seeing Alinskyite Balkanization of America reach a dangerous stage. Pray for America.
Yeah. Same fringe that handed Mary her walking papers yesterday.
When I briefly considered joining the Los Angeles Police Department circa 1992, a white male had to have a score of 110% on the written exam.
10% for being a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War....if you were a white male, you HAD to be a veteran of that war, which I was not.....and you had to have a score of 100% on the written test.
Black males, black females, Mexican males, Mexican females, Asians, etc., they could have much lower test scores and didn’t have to be a veteran of the Gulf War.
Also, the LAPD used to have recruiting ads in the classified section of the Los Angeles Times. These display ads showed pictures of patrol officers in uniform....a black male, a blonde white female, a Mexican-American male, an Asian male, a Mexican-American female, but NEVER a white male.
I didn’t even bother to apply; I could see the writing on the wall.
White privilege my a$$.
