When I briefly considered joining the Los Angeles Police Department circa 1992, a white male had to have a score of 110% on the written exam.
10% for being a veteran of the 1991 Gulf War....if you were a white male, you HAD to be a veteran of that war, which I was not.....and you had to have a score of 100% on the written test.
Black males, black females, Mexican males, Mexican females, Asians, etc., they could have much lower test scores and didn’t have to be a veteran of the Gulf War.
Also, the LAPD used to have recruiting ads in the classified section of the Los Angeles Times. These display ads showed pictures of patrol officers in uniform....a black male, a blonde white female, a Mexican-American male, an Asian male, a Mexican-American female, but NEVER a white male.
I didn’t even bother to apply; I could see the writing on the wall.

A bunch of us have similar stories like yours. I got passed over for promotion because of a “diversity” issue within the group for a position which I interviewed for. Nevermind that I was a “White Hispanic”. Two black males got the two open spots that five interviewed for.
Within six months, the first one was fired for insubordination, and another two years later the other let go for getting into multiple car accidents in company cars (among other things).
What a world we live in!
