It's Not Bias that Makes US Whites Wary of Blacks

Whites walking down Main Street with an AK-47 are defenders of American values; a black man doing the same thing is Public Enemy No. 1.

These are the words of Charles Gallagher, professor at La Salle University in Pennsylvania and "a sociologist who studies race", according to a CNN article on guns-race relationship.

The assumption is that Americans are biased against black people.

The reality is very different. The picture above, taken in August of this year, shows some of the over 30 members of the all-black Huey P. Newton Gun Club "gathered to march through South Dallas with rifles, shotguns, and AR-15s. The group eventually entered a restaurant with their weapons while Dallas police officers were inside eating lunch."

But the police hardly looked at them.

Sociologist Gallagher doesn't accuse white Americans buying a gun of being racist en masse, only of "being human, of unconsciously absorbing stereotypical attitudes about black men and violence that are as old as America itself."

But here as well what he says is far from the truth. You don't find those stereotypical attitudes in US white culture, dominated by political correctness and guilt feelings about American past.

Quite the opposite. Hollywood portrays much more frequently whites than blacks as criminals. The mainstream media are so sensitive to this issue that The Associated Press Stylebook, containing the United States' (and internationally) most authoritative guidelines for reporting, prescribes:

Racial identification should not be included in any story unless such reference is clearly relevant to the story or when part of a detailed description of a fugitive.

The downplay of black predominance in crime is so great, that most people in urban areas now assume that if the race of the perpetrator is not mentioned, they are black. It is an open joke. The AP attempt to prevent a stereotype, has become emblematic of the social engineering by the old media. It has had some effect, but reality overrides it.

The reality is represented by the official statistics of the U.S. Department of Justice:

[For homicide] The offending rate for blacks (34.4 per 100,000) was almost 8 times higher than the rate for whites (4.5 per 100,000).

American blacks perpetrate almost 8 times more murders per capita than whites.

Everyone knows that if you a white man walking in almost any poor black neighborhood, you are greatly in danger if you come across several young black men.

Aliens monitoring our TV and movies would be certain all the gangs were white. I recall an episode of Beverly Hills 90210 where some characters were chatting in a parking lot and a gang of white guys drove by and shot one of them in a drive-by. The victim was rushed to the hospital, where all of the dedicated emergency workers were black and/or female. The LAPD detective assigned to the case was a black man who vowed to catch the “scumbags” who had committed this heinous crime!

Then there’s the home security commercials that always, always show a white guy breaking in to the house.

On so many level this is troubling...

There was a rapist in the South that was quite active, and the only description was a white guy in a white truck, the victims were otherwise subdued from behind and were of no help.

They finally get a sample of DNA, and a researcher offers to "profile" the DNA.

They gave him a total of 20 samples, 19 known to the police, and he went at it, more than nailing the 19 known, and id'ing the unknown as a black male, which let the police look in the correct pool of possible offenders to nail the guy.

The black DA found it troubling that the researcher was able to correctly profile race from the DNA, because of the sociological implications.

I found it troubling that the DA wasn't happy about being able to use color-blind science to help id [alleged] perps.

I remember an uproar about 15 years ago concerning a study that found that white taxi cab drivers tended to pass up potential black customers. Then somebody thought of conducting a study on black taxi drivers, and found that they were just as as likely to avoid picking up black men.

It is long past the time when facts should be made public to expose the lies and misrepresentations of the Obama-Holder demagogues and the race-grievance industry.

There is a gold mine of facts out there that will expose the lies and misrepresentations of the Obama-Holder demagogues and the race-grievance industry.

The little table above from the posted BJS pdf file shows truth as far as I know. It tends to modestly justify the Ferguson uproar. But again.. why did the white policeman kill the black citizen? Was the policeman protecting his own life or the life of another?

That's the way to an honest discussion of race.

Here's an equally important path.. if I interpret these data correctly.

Here's a couple of tables from the FBI new NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System) that also show truth.

Please note that the last four columns of the Offender Table are my additions.. THEY ARE NOT PART OF THE FBI TABLES. I just want to make that clear.

To me the dearth of white offenders vis-a-vis white victims is significant.

Compare that to the dearth of black victims vis-a-vis black offenders. Who are the victims of that surplus?
