Question of the Day: Would You Name Your Child After a Gun or Gunmaker?
By Robert Farago on February 23, 2014
In 2002, only 194 babies were named Colt, the dailybeast.com reports, while in 2012 there were 955. Just 185 babies were given the name Remington in 2002, but by 2012 the number had jumped to 666. Uh-oh. Perhaps the most surprising of all, however, is a jump in the name Rugers (Americas leading firearm manufacturer) from just 23 in 2002 to 118 in 2012 . . . In 1999, Gunner ranked 739th on the list of the Official Social Security sites 1000 most popular names for boysby 2012 it jumped to 293rd. Remington, for both girls and boys, spiked in the last few years as well, starting at 731st place in 1999 and jumping to 421nd a decade later.

What about Tim Gunn, Shell Oil, or Scope Mouthwash? What about Target or Cracker Barrel? When will the NFL change the name of the shotgun and pistol formations? Where does it end?

If I had another boy (doubtful) or my daughter had a son, I’d urge “Ruger”.

There is the girl’s name “Duci”, which means “rich in war”. Its origin is Old English, and it is used mostly in Hungary.
When she grows up and has children, she will then be:
“Ma Duci”.

And of course, there's Tom Mauser, one of the most despicable people I've ever encountered.
His son Dan was killed at Columbine, and Tom has made a very good living pimping his dead kid ever since.
