The country is under attack by a record breaking cold wave with subzero temperatures we haven't heard about since, well...the first half of the twentieth century, which must seem strange to all you well coddled millennials out there, but yes....it use to get really...really cold when I was growing up in the 1950s.
And wait until you hear what it was like when my father was growing up in the 1920s and the local salt water river that flows into the city from the Atlantic froze solid. But I know its hard to conceive of something like that when all you ever learned from science class was the importance of "recycling our trash" because of the evil oil companies and those stupid conservatives.

The “excerpt, read more at” thing looks to “pimp my bloggish” for me.
The worst is over in Austin and it got to 17 but that didn’t touch the all-time record (single digits). I lived near Galveston in 1981 and remember it getting to 11 degrees then (with ice) so color me unimpressed.
I like to have one good hard freeze every winter to kill off the bugs that would otherwise come out in the spring.
Not to mention that he had to walk to school -- at least two miles up hill both ways!

Dude...you sound like my wife!
It’s called Artic Blast!!!
Ours in Georgia ran through here last night from about 2 AM through 9 AM this morning. Got down to 4 degrees here in NGA by my own outside thermometer.
Poor old heater was trying real hard. I sat here for an hour around sunup and timed the cycles. 11 minutes on, 3 minutes off. The exhaust pipe barely had time to get cooler to the touch...it’s 21 here now and the heating system has some breathing room now.
The media must push an apocalyptic agenda to fit the climate change dogma and is too lazy to look at historical data that shows this polar vortex is a common phenomena. I remember the winter of 1977 in Minesota where the temperature never got above zero for about 20 days.
Leftists love to rewrite the language
Polar Vortex = Winter in pre-Obama English.
It’s not like it’s something new. Sometimes winter is bad. Sometimes it’s not so bad. The point is...it’s never good.
?
The first time I visited South Florida in the late 70s I saw snow flurries in Homestead.
It’s your writing, correct?
You list yourself as the author, correct?
If it’s yours and if it’s worth reading,
then it’s worth posting here ... in full.
77-78 was ugly for sure.
And unfortunately I had a full size van with a blanket stretched behind the front seats attempting to heat the passenger compartment.
Got to keep the folks tuned in and panicked that there is something new going on.
I heard it twice this morning on ABC's Good Morning America.
