Long Live The Pig!

pigs pennywell

Domesticated swine and Western Civilization go back a long way together. The domestic pig was being raised in Europe by about 1500 BC. Rome improved pig breeding and spread them throughout their empire. The early Christians increasingly abandoned the Jewish ban on the eating of pork by about 50 AD and it’s been the celebrated ‘other white meat’ ever since.

Pigs and the discovery of the New World went hand in hand. Christopher Columbus took eight pigs on his voyage to Cuba in 1493 at Queen Isabella’s insistence. Hernando de Soto brought America’s first thirteen pigs to Tampa Bay, Fla., in 1539. Cortés introduced hogs to New Mexico in 1600 while Sir Walter Raleigh brought sows to the Jamestown colony in 1607.

Frankly, the West and pigs go together like, well, bacon and eggs. Who hasn’t enjoyed the cultural icons that are the ‘three little pigs,’ delighted in playing “this little piggie went to market” with a toes of a small child, or stashed a few dollars away in their piggie bank? And who can forget such beloved childhood characters as Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web, Babe the movie star (that’ll do pig), Miss Piggy, or Piglet from Winnie the Pooh?

Let’s be honest, even the most finicky among us has to admit that a side order of bacon at IHOP isn’t such a bad idea either.

But, alas, not all share our love for all things pork, bacon, and pig-related.

Piglets removed from agricultural exhibit because Muslim kids were stoning them to death

I guess cows and chickens are out for you then. No fish either, they poop in the water.

In “The Odyssey” only 3 or 4 people remained loyal to Odysseus. One of them was the Swineherd.

A few months ago, I noticed someone had hit and killed a huge wild hog just down the road from me. I bet it tore the vehicle up. I mean this hog was huge.

Well, I wouldn't go so far to say that they are filthy but they are defiantly dirty.

Besides Leviticus 11:7, JPS: "And the swine, because it has a split hoof, and is cloven-footed, but cheweth not the cud, it is unkosher for you."

I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but you know what I'd like? To go a whole day—even just one single day—without having to read about Islamic barbarity. Would that be asking too [fill in the blank] much?

I’m not Jewish, so the Kosher laws don’t apply to me. Besides, a life without bacon would not be worth living.

Cats look down on humans.

Dogs look up to humans.

Pigs consider humans equal.

I was reading an interview of my Dad’s cousin - a WWII vet. In talking about food he said the rations were edible. But as a newbie in Europe he couldn’t figure out why he could score so many extra rations with pork.

Until a few weeks in and going along roads with dead Germans in the ditches, and the pigs feasting. (He started giving up his pork rations as well!)

Well I am and I still don't dig on Swine.

I don't understand why Goy would consume an animal that eats purposely eats its own feces.

And you know what else they do in the water, don't you?

Thank you 21twleve, I stand vindicated!

Although in a situation like WW2 and if you were Jewish, I am sure in a combat environment you had to suck it up a few times because if I recall correctly C-Rats were Bacon, Pork Loaf, More Pork Loaf, Sausages, and Pork Loaf.
