I have never read anything so imaginative.
Realization #1 - Corruption is far worse outside the USA
Wrong. The U.S. is one of the most corrupt countries in the world right now and has been for many, many years.
Realization #2 - Many cultures do not practice long-term preparedness thinking
Because they use common sense. When the U.S. was running around in a panic attack about Y2K, no country south of the border gave it any attention. Guess who lost?
Realization #3 - Don’t be the foreigner
?
Whatever that means. I give up.
Realization #4 - You cannot escape the global police state
What are you talking about? Panama does not know what that is or means.
Realization #5 - You are far safer to hunker down than try to go mobile
No youre not bad/wrong advice.
Quit spreading misinformation!!!!
I've noticed that when disasters occur in urban areas, people seem somewhat helpless and lacking the resources or innovation to care for themselves. Whereas rural folks are better adapted to dealing with adversity and self preservation. They seem quicker to join together than their urban counterparts who don't seem familiar with each other as much, even though they live much closer.
Age isn't a factor. Ben Franklin was in his seventies, but he risked everything to help found this nation.
Australia would be a good option for oil roughnecks who are being offered a lot of money for a short work contract. Long term relocation there isn’t something I’d consider because they have socialized medicine and have outlawed guns.
Good Point
One archaeologist says Gansu Province, China.
Professor Stephen Oppenheimer says that his DNA studies indicate that Europeans have their origins in a region of what is Northern Pakistan today.
He said that about half of Europeans are descended from a man there and made their way to Europe through Russia. The other half are descended from a son of the same man and made their way to Europe via the Middle East a thousand years later. (or something close to that)
Its seems like there is a lot of jobs available in Western Canada.
Yup.
Where I live, I can be in either PA or WV in a matter of minutes.
Freezin’ my rump off as we speak.
:)
I guess that sums up the hillbilly mindset pretty well, too.
.you arent getting any more Social Security deposited into your bank account..

“Gee, I might have to give up my G-Sat TV, and my ltr of wine per day, but I will survive......I would feel much more secure here then if I were back in the USSA when SHTF....”
Why would you feel more secure?...You stated you had no means to protect you or your family.....Do you really think there will be civility there when SHTF?....I’d feel more secure surrounded by like minded people who are armed and willing to take a stand for themselves.....
“Social Security is obligated...”
No, Social Security is not obligated. The Supreme Court said so years ago. That’s why they call it a “tax” and not an “investment” or “insurance.”
I think having Americans with traditional American ideals scattered throughout the world who will be there to pick up the pieces is a good thing.
I don't discourage or encourage anyone from making that choice. I understand the life you have in the PI and its great but I also understand most folks would be freaked out by a weekend visit.
Folks cant run from the future, they can only plan where, for them personally, the best place to face the future will be.
All in fun (and I’m prepped for that too)
TT
I’d agree with that, in fact I think modern big cities would be an extremely dangerous place to be if things did come apart at the seams in a big way. Modern cities absolutely need electricity in order to function, and without it things would quickly descend into chaos. Their pumping stations use electricity and so if the electricity went off, the water supply would fail shortly afterward. Without water, there’d be no way of fighting fires and with all the looting and violence going on you’d soon have out of control fires all over the place. The whole city might well burn down in a firestorm (as happened to a few cities in Europe and Japan during WW2), and if that were to happen, anyone still inside would burn with it.
We had a small foretaste of what it could be like with the riots here in the UK in 2011, and I can tell you it was quite scary. I live in a street off a main road, and I could hear gangs rampaging down the main road smashing windows and looting the shops (fortunately they bypassed my street). A couple of days later I talked to one of the checkout operators at the local supermarket, and they were attacked by a gang of around 50 black youths who emptied all the tills and robbed all the customers at knifepoint. This is quite a large supermarket, and I don’t know how many customers were robbed (the story wasn’t covered in the news at all), but it must have been quite a few - dozens or more.
There wasn’t any warning that any of this was going to happen either, it was just a normal day and then suddenly there were gangs of mainly blacks all over the place looting the shops and beating up and robbing people with the police nowhere to be seen.
All I can say is, you people are very lucky you have guns and can defend yourselves in that sort of situation!
Very interesting, thanks. Stay safe, UK FRiend.
Regarding municipal water supplies, you are correct, I toured the water filtration facilities here and was told that my town would have between 1.5 and three days of pressure if the power failed depending on exactly where you are located. Fortunately, we are right on the banks of the Columbia River and with a modest population and lack of troublesome demographics we could probably get by, water wise (it least if the river isn’t frozen).
Your observation concerning fire during outages is accurate also. Just two weeks ago we had freak 83 mph winds with lots of powerlines down. At least two fires started during the power outage. Fortunately the fire department still had water pressure in the mains but landline phones and some cell repeaters were down. I shudder to think how those fires could spread with no pressure on the water mains, especially in summer (100F+ temps and wind). They could refill to some extent from the river but couldn’t possibly keep up if multiple areas were burning.
“Why would you feel more secure?”

There is no such thing as total security anywhere in the world. The political environment can change on a dime.
When I was last in America, I would have laughed like crazy
if someone suggested that a black Communist Kenyan would become POTUS.
I left the US at that time as a personal choice, not political.
I am now very thankful that I did.
I feel secure only in that I am free to go where I want and tailor my life to whatever country I am in.
My American heritage, as a grand grand grand nephew of Uncle Sam, goes pretty deep. I am a TRADITIONAL American.
As I have said before, I did not leave America. America left me.
One more point:
All the crap on here about stocking up on guns and ammo is nothing more then whistling in one’s britches.
When the country falls, they will be as useless as teats on a boar.
I have another ancestor who was on the Mayflower — left England behind because of interference from the Government, and here we are 392 years later come full circle - on a thread discussing leaving the country because of Government interference onto our rights and liberties.
When I look at what is going on in states other than mine I think I am already living in a foreign country. I believe I will stay right where I am at. Texas is the only other place I would consider.
The rights and liberties you speak of, have only been enjoyed by Americans these last 236 years because someone stood up and fought for them to begin with. They were never given to our people.
If you think the solution to the erosion and possible loss of those rights is to flee, then by all means, go. Maybe you'll find a new country, run by a benevolent dictator who grants you all the freedoms you're unwilling to fight for.
Good luck.
As with all things, it depends. In the event of a massive disruption, you don’t want to be the rich white American in the wrong part of the world. You also need to know if it is better to run or stay. In a large city, get out. Where I live, stay and help your neighbors.
Corruption is an odd one. We do business all over the world, and the US is as corrupt as anywhere.
