Liberals are responsible for this tragedy
Tea Party Nation ^ | 12/15/12 | Judson Phillips

In light of a tragedy like the shooting at Newton yesterday, the immediate reaction of conservatives is to mourn and offer our sympathies and prayers for the victims. The immediate reaction of liberals is to politicize the issue.

When we are engaged in a war for our freedom, we cannot allow the left simply dominate the narrative while we act as decent human beings.

There is one simple truth here. Guns were not responsible for what happened yesterday. Liberals were.

How?

The school at Newton like schools everywhere was declared “gun free” zones.

Why don’t we just put up a big sign here that says, “DEFENESLESS TARGETS IN THIS BUILDING!”

The left has succeeded in pushing gun control and the end result has been perfectly predictable. Everywhere gun control is imposed, violent crime rises. Washington DC has some of the most draconian gun control laws around. It is also racked with violent crime. Ditto Nanny State Queen Michael Bloomberg’s hellhole called New York City. Citizens are defenseless but criminals didn’t get the memo. They sill have guns.

He is the one responsible, but in a time of tragedy, liberals make us go on defense before the bodies are cold. I truly resented that I had to immediately contemplate saving our God-given rights instead of mourning the victims. So yea, liberals suck.

Used to lock up these people for life and then we got civil. Choose, civil as this is or jail them before it happens.

Agree that the '60s de-institutionalization movement had some terrible consequences.

But nobody on FR, I hope, would advocate locking someone up simply because he acted "odd." E.g. a loner type who shunned the general culture, for whatever reason.

That would be a sure recipe for Soviet-style forced "psychiatric" incarceration. FReepers would be the first to be thrown in Obama's psychiatric gulag.

"Who gets to determine what “mental issues” warrant incarceration, “for life”? You? The Government? Your statement is dangerous."

Right, which is what got us to this point of the crazies being out to kill people all over the place.

So our choice was to let the innocent die so we don't lock up the potential problems as we used to.

It is what we choose to do as a society and we need to stop complaining about what to do about these killings unless we want to go back to locking all the misfits up.
I don't think we want to lock the mental up yet again IMO.

Please consider post 3 and 5. I agree he is ultimately responsible, but if anyone group in society has made it easier for a nut like this to kill it’s the liberals.

We don’t like the incarceration of the mental, and yet again we don’t like when they go off and kill everyone.

I don’t see a win win on this issue for anyone.

I knew they were Democrats. The shooter is always a Democrat or left leaning person if you don’t hear about their political affiliation from the MSM.

You could consider castration of these people as youth so they don't get as charged up to go off when they reach adulthood, but like locking them up this action would not go over well and would be seen as barbaric.

I'm not sure if castrating them would even do it, but many of these men are oversexed and unsuccessful leading to unending frustration.

Again, we are too civil to really fix this IMO.
We so expect this that every county now has training to council people when these things happen.

Consider also, many parental gems have been high or on things while having sex the last couple of decades and we are seeing the offspring of drugs and alcohol in addition to what would have naturally occurred in nature.

So, we need to again ban alcohol, pot, prescription meds, guns, cars, knives, pillows (for suffocation) and all Yoko Ono recordings (which make our ears bleed).

We can go on and on. No answer to this if we want to be totally civil.

Yes, it is time to regulate crazy people NOT guns.

Some of these killers are psychotic and delusional and have the forces of Satan within them. Their realization is that they will live in infamy, forever a name in American culture, someone who is, sadly, immortalized with the instant attention and attraction to such a heinous and vile action.

So many thousands of the mentally ill were released from institutions and are now on the streets of our communities classified as ‘The Homeless’. Liberals have demanded that be done. I know this was not the case here, but overall the so-called ‘Homeless’ are a safety threat to the public.

“In the late 1970s, President Jimmy Carter’s Commission on Mental Health mentioned “the objective of maintaining the greatest degree of freedom, self-determination, autonomy, dignity, and integrity of body, mind, and spirit for the individual while he or she participates in treatment or receives services.”

Maybe state law enforcement in Connecticut should have intervened before this individual turned into a killer.

CONNECTICUT LAW ON COMMITMENT OF MENTALLY ILL ADULTS

I. Definitions

CGS §17a-495 defines “person with psychiatric disabilities,” “dangerous to himself or herself or others,” “gravely disabled,” and “voluntary” and “involuntary patient(s). “

Nonsense. The immediate reaction of far too many freepers was to make political comments with no reference at all of either sympathy or prayers.

Likewise there were tons of FB postings by liberal friends wthat were totally non-political and were focused only on prayers for the families.

There are assholes on both sides and Judson proves it..

Our culture is rotting from the inside out. In the 1950’s people drove to school and left their rifles in the back of their pickup trucks and nobody did this sort of thing. In the 1800’s, there were not even background checks and this sort of thing never happened. Something is different NOW and it is NOT the guns.

Hollywood movies, computer games, and rap music which glorify violence, are all bigger contributors to this sort of thing than any gun. Guns have always been there.....in fact, they were far more accessible prior to GCA68.

It’s the culture, not the guns. THIS is the discussion we need to have.

RE: "It is amazing to see the speculation [and] not one iota of evidence. . . ."

There is a lot of talk here about mental problems.. we had mental problems prior to the JFK assassination and the beginning of the constant demands for "gun control;" but any shootings at schools back then were by the schools' rifle teams. (Yes of course there were some shootings the U. of Texas tower comes to mind.)

Beginning in the 1950s after pharmaceuticals were invented that could make the insane sane they were loosed with their promise that they'd take their meds.

Those are not the major problem.. what about the normal people feeling a little down and taking mind-altering pharmaceuticals to feel better? I recall such drugs being discussed as driving people to doing these horrible killings.

A cursory search for, pharmaceuticals and gun violence, finds the role pharmaceuticals play in gun violence.

I did not read any. I am relying upon hearing descussions by experts and an occassional post here in FR to state unequivocally that mind altering pharmaceuticals taken by sane people are a huge factor.

Whenever I used to convey any consevative idea to my liberal union coworkers they woud always say that people like me should be locked up and I am a good case for gun control. And I’m just talking about simple ideas like taxes or property rights. Of course there would be more union jobs if they put conservatives in institutions.

Keep guns out of the hands of lunatics

Which will require more government to determine who 'the lunatics' are...an expansion of the Obamacare mandate perhaps? More institutions, more prisons, more government controlled "mental health panels", more laws, more, more, more.
