Todd Akin's Really, Really Sorry He's An Idiot
Ace of Spades HQ ^ | 08/21/2012 | DrewM

Posted on 08/21/2012 7:38:58 AM PDT by nhwingut

Here's the thing, if you're running for the Senate and you have to cut a spot that assures voters that you think rape is bad and you now know that women don't have a goalie in their vajay-jay to stop sperm in case of "legitimate rape", you're in big trouble.

I didn't think I'd live long enough to see an ad worse than "I'm not a witch" but I was wrong. I regret the error.

PPP has a poll out showing Akin still leading by 1. Alas, it's total bull. Almost as if Democrats want to keep Akin hanging in there. Even if were a legit poll, it's early and 1 point is within the margin of error. How do you think it will look after a couple of weeks of pounding with no Crossroads or national GOP money in the game?

If Akin stays in and we are one vote short on in the Senate then he and John Roberts will have saved ObamaCare. Great.

One last thought. This whole notion of we have to be loyal to guys like Akin is nuts. He broke the faith by putting a slam dunk win in danger. We owe him nothing.

I think this infatuation some people have with defending politicians to the end is silly and not a healthy small 'r' republican value. These guys are chess pieces to me. If you have to sacrifice one or more to win the game then do it and win. The game here is control of the Senate (repealing ObamaCare, confirming judges, etc.) not vindicating some guy most of us couldn't pick out of a lineup. This is about beating the Democrats at the ballot box, not shoving it to the "establishment" or the media.

Oh and if you think we must stick with Akin to the bitter end, you know who agrees with you? Claire McCaskill. So you've got that going for you.

If he is going to stay in, he shouldn't be apologizing, he should be defending what he said and explaining what he meant.

He’ll cost the right the Senate. There is no way he will win the race if he stays in. No way at all. He’ll have no funding, and there will absolutely be middle of the roaders who were set to vote for him who know will not.

He must get out or it won’t really matter if Romney wins because Harry Reid will still be in charge of the Senate and just block everything.

What kind of jerk uses a phrase like “goalie in their vajay-jay”?

This author is bottom-sucking scum.

He needs to go NOW. look how much damage this guy did in 10 seconds. Imagine what he could do with 2 1/2 months. He is a plague infected blanket gifted to us by the Democrats. They’re sending this guy money they want him so bad and they’re certainly answering yes in polls asking whether he should stay in or not. Get him out of there.

What did Ted Kennedy, do after Chappaquiddick, What did Bill Clinton do after Monica Lewinsky, What did John Edwards do after being caught having an affair while running for President, What did Barney Frank do after being caught having an affair with a male prostitute, who also conducted his business in Franks home? You know what they did? They just kept on running for office, like the good scum that they are. They didn’t say something, they actually did something. So if they’re smart enough and can figure out the hypocrisy then they should know that people who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones! Having actually did something horrible and saying something horrible are not the same.

Yep. It comes down to this: If Akin doesn't love this country enough to put his ego aside, take one for the team and give the GOP the chance to win that election, there is virtually NO CHANCE the GOP will take the Senate, and as such NO CHANCE Obamacare will ever be repealed.

Akin may be sorry he’s an idiot, but . . . Democrats aren’t.

Not saying I agree with the GOP practice of political cannibalism, but if ever there was vacuous utterance from a politician, Akin’s flub was it. Biden is green with envy.

You need to brush up on how politics works. Dems have a much lower bar to hurdle. It’s not fair. But it’s the way it works.

If you want to go down with the ship defending this idiot, be my guest. Not me. I have no affection for any politician. They are nothing but numbers to me. And we need 51 of them to to repeal Obamacare. Akin’s number is no good.

—There is no explanation for ignorance.—

Actually, we are all ignorant on a lot of subjects. He’s not a doctor. I can imagine he is ignorant on this subject. That’s why what he said was a “misspeak”. What he touched on was very “nuanced and controversial” science and, therefore, he was crazy to even bring it up.

Unfortunately, politicians are not protected by affirmative action.

Akin was terminally stupid politically. It does not make a bit of difference if there could have been different words used to convey some sort of understanding about the chances of pregnancy occurring during a violent rape, what he did say was terminally asinine.

The most important thing is that he clearly has demonstrated that he does not have the judgment to hold office. That is the reason he should remove himself.

I do to, but the perception is that the Dem’s are lilly white, without fault, and that has to be shown for the lie that it is.

"And yet..ol Joe B just keeps on keepin on."

And that's going to keep happening. The sooner we recognize that and stop whining about it, the better we'll be.

Henry V didn't snivel at Agincourt about how outnumbered and out armored he was. He didn't cry about it being unfair. He used his strengths (longbow) and the terrain to multiply the effectiveness of his own forces and limit the decided advantages of the French.

Santorum did exceptionally well in Missouri (twice) during the primary season, and all Akin needed to do was parrot Santorum's response. All Akin would have had to say is, "I think Rick Santorum gave a very persuasive response to this very same question in the primaries. It was thoughtful, compassionate and I agree with him." Now you may argue that would have been "punting," but that is certainly preferrable to being sacked in your own end zone.

Here's a heads up to any pro-life Politician.

IF YOU HOLD YOURSELF OUT AS A PROLIFE POLITICIAN, YOU ARE GOING TO BE ASKED ABOUT ABORTION IN THE CASE OF RAPE OR INCEST.

HAVE AN ANSWER READY.

HAVE A GOOD ANSWER READY AND REHEARSED.

WE PROLIFERS SEE THIS AS A VERY SIMPLE LIFE/DEATH, BLACK/WHITE ISSUE. HERE'S A CLUE: MANY PEOPLE SEE THIS AS A GRAY AREA. I KNOW IT MAY SEEM UNAMBIGUOUS TO YOU OR ME, BUT MANY PEOPLE ARE CONFLICTED AND RESPOND TO THIS EMOTIONALLY RATHER THAN INTELLECTUALLY.

YOU NEEDN'T COMPROMISE YOUR BELIEFS, BUT NO ANSWER ABOUT RAPE WILL EVER BE SUCCESSFULLY DEFENDED BY A MALE STATING "FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND".
