Just heard.
There was never a chance of winning this Presidential election with a candidate who would alter course, because the Political Class is circling its wagons to ensure its own survival, to hell with the rest of us.
Mitt Romney was a forgone conclusion long ago. Romney = Obama, and the political class will survive regardless of which of them wins. That's all that matters anymore.
We're witnessing the collapse of a civilization, and it's not just the US - it's the whole debt-based economy of the entire Western world. We're not going to change it with our trivial votes now.
The Titanic has had six of its compartments breached and nothing is going to change what happens next. Head for the lifeboats or sit back and listen to the band play. Those are your options.
For my part, I'm writing in Karl Denninger in November while I try to get my lifeboat stocked.
1) Thoroughly and constantly insult Rick Santorum and his supporters (”Rick Satan”, “big government socialists who don't care about fiscal conservatism”, “Saint Rick”, “Rick Sanctimonious”, “neo-con war mongers”, “would outlaw rock music”, “evangelical bible thumpers”, “so-cons hijacking our party”, “I don't agree there's anything decent or honorable about them”, “anger student who plagiarized the masterful professor”, “they hate the Constitution”, “even Pennsylvania doesn't want Rick” “will enact Christian law”, etc.)
2) ?
3) Win all Santorum’s voters!
Fatalistic nonsense. Maybe that makes you feel better about it but I don't go for that.
The sad thing is we had ample opportunity to nominate a decent Republican, Romney is not well liked and was a very weak frontrunner. Even a collection of not so great candidates kept him from sewing it up until now.
It started by nobody any better than Santorum even running. I love Bachmann but she would have had trouble winning. I like Cain a whole lot but there was the myopic focus on his tax plan and the rookie mistakes before the sex bomb took him down. The next best and perhaps most electable was milktoast Tim Pawlenty who quit before Iowa. The rest, PU. Oh I forget Thad McCotter, so did everyone else, I don't even remember when HE quit.
Then we had conservatives foolishly not uniting behind the one decent and viable conservative in the race, Santorum. Vote splitting with Newt cost RS big momentum wins in OH and MI and helped Romney win delegates in other states.
And then you had Santorum not running such a great race, making gaffes he couldn't afford, not effectively refuting the Romney attacks (ie he's a fiscal liberal Christian socialst, you had some of US freepers saying that nonsense), and not having a very good ground game (not having delegates in a few places including parts of PA).
Sad
