The daughter of a Mormon bishop who has abandoned her family's faith claims in a new book the election of Mitt Romney to the presidency would put the U.S. in danger due to what she calls the Republican's "outrageous," "horrific" and "mind-controlling" beliefs.
Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney and his wife, Ann
"While he attempts to portray Mormonism as just another Christian religion, Mitt Romney counts on his skills to shift our attention away from what he truly believes," says Tricia Erickson, author of "Can Mitt Romney Serve Two Masters? The Mormon Church Versus the Office of the Presidency of the United States of America."
"If the American people knew what he truly believed, they would surely not place him in the highest office in the land."
Yet others, such as professor Richard Bushman, a Mormon and previous missionary himself who has taught at Harvard, Columbia and Brown Universities, are defending the faith. He calls Erickson "disillusioned" and someone who "instead of walking away felt an obligation to discredit [her] former faith."

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the official name for Mormonism, has rocketed into the national consciousness this month since Rev. Robert Jeffress, a Rick Perry supporter who pastors the First Baptist Church of Dallas, Texas, said Romney was "not a Christian" and that Mormonism is a "cult."
"Part of a pastor's job is to warn his people and others about false religions," Jeffress said Sunday, standing by his controversial remarks. "Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism and Mormonism are all false religions."

Did they spill twice or what?
Second posting within a couple of hours.
This is why I stopped readin WND a long time ago. They have the most outrageous reporting. It’s total garbage plain and simple. No serious person should get their info from WND.
I’m a Cain suporter, but this is just a smear. By the way, what does this authorette have to say about the Rev. Wright and the Illegal???
Romney’s religion is not a factor in my vote.
Funny how she has no problem with Harry Reid. As far as me personally, I have a problem with Romney’s faith only because it’s the same as Harry Reid’s and I believe Reid to be downright evil.

WND is a scourge.

Having said that, this same issue was brought up when John Kennedy ran for President...could he exercise his role as a Catholic given the Catholic view of the Pope. He answered the question bac then.
Last election, in 2007, Romney answered this particular angle of attack as well in a speech about his faith.
In that speech he said, among other things:
"Given our grand tradition of religious tolerance and liberty, some wonder whether there are any questions regarding an aspiring candidate's religion that are appropriate. I believe there are. And I will answer them today.
"Almost 50 years ago another candidate from Massachusetts explained that he was an American running for president, not a Catholic running for president. Like him, I am an American running for president. I do not define my candidacy by my religion. A person should not be elected because of his faith nor should he be rejected because of his faith.
"Let me assure you that no authorities of my church, or of any other church for that matter, will ever exert influence on presidential decisions. Their authority is theirs, within the province of church affairs, and it ends where the affairs of the nation begin.
"As governor, I tried to do the right as best I knew it, serving the law and answering to the Constitution. I did not confuse the particular teachings of my church with the obligations of the office and of the Constitution - and of course, I would not do so as president. I will put no doctrine of any church above the plain duties of the office and the sovereign authority of the law.
You can find the full transcript of his speech HERE
Could find someone to write the same trash about Catholicism.
Not a good post nor a good reason to not support Romney.
wnd = world nut daily
Inquiring minds want to know.
Hey they asked Clinton “boxer or briefs”
The three most heavily Mormon states in America (Utah, Idaho and Wyoming) have not awarded a single electoral vote to a Democrat since 1964. In fact, none of them have even come close. You can look it up.
There are maybe 4 or 5 other states which can make that same claim, none of them dominated by a single religious demographic.
But all things are not equal, and Cain is clearly way closer to my politics than anyone else in the race, with the possible exception of fading stars (like Bachmann) or never were stars (like Santorum).
There is no shortage of them on this forum either. Much of their ranting and raving is so similar, you'd swear they are the same poster with different screen names.
Romney is an amoral freakshow, but his mormonism has little or nothing to do with it.
His problem is he is a say-anything liar.
