"Who won the latest Republican debate? Going into the debate, Mitt Romney was the frontrunner. After the debate, he remains the frontrunner. Of all the candidates, Romney appeared the most presidential. He is becoming increasingly skilled in debates. Other candidates attempted to challenge Romney on a number of occasions, but he used them as opportunities to promote his candidacy. In some ways, Herman Cain was in the center of the debate. The crowd enjoyed Cain, but he runs the risk of becoming a one-note candidate, known only for his "9-9-9" plan. As for Rick Perry, he was not harmed as he was in previous debates, but he was flat. He seemed afraid of hurting himself. Romney and Cain were comfortable.
The Republican debate this evening had an unusual format. Rather than having each candidate at his own podium, as in all the previous debates, the candidates were seated at one big table. In the past, this format has been known to encourage the candidates to be a bit more civil. For some reason, candidates are less comfortable attacking each other when seated together...."

Perry's a two percenter who for the life of him can't think on his feet. I don't know if he's smart or not but he comes across as a dolt. It's past anyone caring what he says.

I don’t believe for a second that Conservatives, or anyone else who seriously cares about the country, would take Obama for a second term over voting for Romney.
If the Republican Establishment get Romney.... Goodbye Republican party!

Herman Cain's other problem is that he really doesn't have a record of any kind. He can't say that he did his best to work with Democrats in an overwhelmingly Democrat state because he didn't. He can't say that he advanced conservative policies in a conservative state because he didn't. He can throw out ideas of what he'd like to do if he ever held real power, but everyone knows that he's never been in that position and may be completely ineffective.

If, as many people seem to think, a kumquat could defeat Obama in the next election, then why must we be talked into “settling” for Romney?
He can’t get 2 Amendment types, no-centralized-healthcare types, southern baptist or other evangelical types, etc.
Sure he is not a Marxist like Obama, but is he different enough to sway the mythical independent voter?
Suppose independents split over Romney, true believers on the liberal side go for Obama, and true believers on the conservative side split over Romney. Obama wins.
This is what will happen. My question is, why would the establishment Republican party want this to happen? I would guess it is because they are not conservative, but Republican, with a strong bent toward utilizing the conservatives to win (much as Fox is not a conservative network, IMO, but a network which seeks a conservative audience). They have in fact shown this to be the case numerous times.
If Romney is the pick, I will vote for Republicans in the legislature, but I will vote for someone I can support in the executive branch, even if it means a write-in. In that case, it is not I who will have chosen to elect Obama a second term, but they. I will also do my best to encourage the conservatives in the legislature to start another party, so we can be done with all this false conservative posturing at election time, followed by business as usual the next day.
Again, in that case, we have clear lines to fight, not a delayed “extend and pretend” presidency. We have been a long time coming to the place where we are now, over many administrations and legislatures, and we may yet find that we cannot recover from it. It will take a radical change from the status quo to save our nation, and Romney is not it.
Sometimes catharsis is the only solution.
My message to the RNC and their backers or thinkers is this: don’t offer Romney or another like him unless you want us to turn from you in droves. You can whine that we are abandoning “conservatism” all you want, but it is clear that it is you who have done so, because the minute we do your bidding, you abandon us and all your eloquent promises in order to consolidate your power.
With an overwhelming majority in both houses, we can block legislation and nominations, defund programs and czars, and pass veto proof legislation when needed.
All this is more likely when an opposition party than when we have an establishment R in the White House. Then we get less responsiveness (why listen to them, they vote for us anyway), more crossing the aisle (the same way to lawyers remember that their adversarial cronies are lifetime relationships, but their clients are not), more exercise of restraint on “both sides” (not)... More of the same stuff that got us in the mess we are in now.
All this could be moot, anyway, given the indications that an American Spring is being desired and encouraged. But to play some of those scenarios out as well - suppose a Dem Light is in office and the country collapses - who gets the blame? Who steps in to save the day?
Suppose a Dem Light or a conservative wins and certain people rise up in the streets - which administration would handle this well, or who would start trying to “get along,” thereby ensuring our complete destruction.
All this has a better chance of being avoided if we make our “No way, No how” loud and clear to the back room politicians right now, without any blinks, or worse still, subtle winks when we say it.
Newt did quite well, but I don’t get the feeling he is running for office. When he answers a question it’s more in the vein of him ‘schooling’ us on who and what we are and where we need to be. He’s extremely intelligent and able to recall facts and history with ease. I almost get the feeling he is doing this to keep the GOP field from blowing itself apart.
Keep voting RINO; the Republican/Democrat Establishment counts on it.

Crossover Democrats will skew the Republican Primary easily to get Romney the RINO on the ticket with room to spare. Unions will make sure their members know to Register Republican for the Primary.

I am totally are of voter fraud, but voter fraud is only decisive in close elections. Furthermore, numerous polls show Romney leading or running second. There are enough polls to suggest that no fixing for Romney is needed. These polls are conducted by pollsters of varying political persuasions and are not not statistically different. Also, some of these polls are conducted by commercial organizations whose business prospects could be damaged if some of their polls were wildly off the mark.
But conspiracy theorists are totally immune to reason.
And there my friend is the problem with Romney in a nutshell. Nobody will vote for him....they will vote against Obama. Many of those who are non-political (the vast majority) see Obama as a "nice guy" or as a black guy being picked on by whites. They will not care enough about Romney to vote for him no matter what. He inspires no passion. Voting for him is not a positive action. That's why the leftists want him to be the nominee. He'll get squashed.
Vote for him, if you want a Liberal in the White House, if you must.
Obamacare is here to stay with Romney; GUARANTEED. He can't Veto his own creation.

Whoever is elected will have a very difficult task in repealing even parts of Obamacare. Our country has hundreds of programs which should be ended but can you name even two which have been eliminated(not reduced but actually eliminated)?

I think your "plan" is pretty close to mine. Even I would probably vote to kick the can down the road to get just another year or two or three. Miracles can happen in that time.
But in order to save the republic we need a restorer of fundamentals; someone who will cut out the cancer. Band-aids won't do anymore. We also need more than a leader as well. The people need to change their way of thinking. Believe in freedom, not government.
