Herman Cain At The Center Of Tonight's Debate: Who Won?
Elephant Watcher ^ | October 11, 2011

"Who won the latest Republican debate? Going into the debate, Mitt Romney was the frontrunner. After the debate, he remains the frontrunner. Of all the candidates, Romney appeared the most presidential. He is becoming increasingly skilled in debates. Other candidates attempted to challenge Romney on a number of occasions, but he used them as opportunities to promote his candidacy. In some ways, Herman Cain was in the center of the debate. The crowd enjoyed Cain, but he runs the risk of becoming a one-note candidate, known only for his "9-9-9" plan. As for Rick Perry, he was not harmed as he was in previous debates, but he was flat. He seemed afraid of hurting himself. Romney and Cain were comfortable.

The Republican debate this evening had an unusual format. Rather than having each candidate at his own podium, as in all the previous debates, the candidates were seated at one big table. In the past, this format has been known to encourage the candidates to be a bit more civil. For some reason, candidates are less comfortable attacking each other when seated together...."

Santorum and Bachman had the good idea of attacking Cain’s 999 plan and may stay in the race for a little longer, but unfortunately Mittens had the most airtime as usual and also has Crispy Creme’s endorsement. Not to mention the most money. I will not be happy to vote for Mittens, but i will if I have to oust King Obamao.

Vote your heart in the primary, and your mind in the General.

Once again, Newt proved that he is the smartest man in the room. Even his question of Romney was intelligent. Too bad he has so much baggage. He's rising in the polls, but I don't believe he will rise to the top.

Herman Cain was good, but I agree with Santorum and the others, his 999 plan won't pass and giving government another source of revenue to tap is suicide.

Mitt again gave a very strong performance and still looks to be the man to beat.

Perry was much, much better than he has been in the earlier debates, but he still has much to prove and improve. I was pleased with his performance overall. He looked far more relaxed and had more information at his command.

Bachmann was good as well. Between her and Newt, they absolutely dismantled Karen Tumulty in her first round of questions.

Paul is strong in economics, but his desire to completely eliminate the Fed is too extreme--pretty much like most of his agenda.

Huntsman shot himself in the foot over the China issue. It seems to have completely escaped him that we are already in a trade war with China and they are kicking our butts. As Newt pointed out, if we put America back to work as it has been in the past, we wouldn't have to worry about China as they would be unable to compete with us.

Newt for the win.

Perry does not seem to have a grasp of the English language.

All he ever learned to do in English was to "yell" at A&M. He is really trying to master Spanish, because he and his pals in the TX Pubbie clique are committed to a Hispanic future for America.

You forgot the Barf alert. It is so sickeningly sweet towards Romney, I could barely get past the first paragraph. GACK!

Me too.

If Romney wins the debate, the same idiots who ran Bush II’s SECOND term, plus a few more, will be in the White House.

The same globalist, Crony Capitalist RINOs and Rockefeller Republicans who infect the GOP in such backwaters as New Jersey, New York and New England will be calling the shots.

If Romney is nominated, I STAY HOME - or write in “George Washington”.

Get out there now and campaign and contribute to Cain or Perry - the only people who can stop this abortion from seizing the nomiantion,

They had Romney front and center, but I don’t like him any better. I liked the table idea, and think the candidates seemed calmer. I think Cain got hurt, Perry handled himself well, as did Paul, Gingrich and Huntsman. Bachman is driving me crazy with her children story. How many times do we have to hear that? Santorum is, to me, sounding repetitive as well. Who won? Paul for being the most genuine, Gingrich the most brilliant, and Perry for leadership. I agree with other posters, if Mitt gets the nomination, I do a write-in.

Seriously, if Romney gets the nomination then I will either just vote 3rd party or just stay home.

Obama will appreciate that!

God forgive me, but I will NOT vote for Rinoromney.

After the last Mclame fiasco, I vowed to never hold my nose and vote again.

I will just write in a REAL conservative.

If zero wins because of it, so be it. The country will get what it deserves.

"...Newt won....."

I agree. Newt was the only one who drew applause from the audience...multiple times. Especially when he attacked Bernanke.

Since I always like to get to the heart of the matter I have one question: does Bloomberg TV hire the ugliest people in the world? Tumulty, Charlie Rose and the guy with the cold sore on his lip almost made me turn to TCM. Luckily, it was not in hi-def.

The true question was Who Lost?

The American people is the answer.

I heard damned good responses to some damned good questions tonight and it aired on some channel so obscure I had to get a web link in order to watch.

The American people, all American people should have been able to see this tonight on network TV.

I enjoyed everything I heard. Regardless of whether I agreed or disagreed, the whole atmosphere reminded me of where we should, or could be!

I’d say that there’s a better than even chance that the eventual GOP ticket will be Romney/Cain.

Romney appeared the most presidential

He *looked* Presidential? WTF does that mean? And more to the point, WTF does it matter?

Holy Moses, no wonder this country is in the crapper. We now believe that there is causal relationship between looks and [ability, positions, qualifications etc]?

Obama is qualified because he is 1/2 black and Romney is qualified because he looks good? How about Trump? He's got the best comb over hands down. Palin has a great rack and nice legs, surely that means more than being a former governor.

I must be living in an alternate universe in a DC comic book.

You analysis seems spot on to me, in spite of what others on FR and the talking heads on the networks might wish the outcome to be.
