Rick Perry’s Political Judo

As I have said before, it constantly amazes me to watch what the media describes as “experienced” senior campaign advisers fail to follow through and do their research. “Know thy enemy” is the first rule of politics 101 and yet supposed ” unbeatable” campaign influence peddlers have failed to learn this lesson when it comes to Rick Perry. I t is downright amusing to watch the show.

<snip>

Perry’s people will either leak something Perry has said that is “damaging” in the past or will leak something written to the media. It is either this or it is said in a debate or press conference. His campaign will give the opponent the time (perhaps a day, perhaps a week) to pontificate, make numerous statements to the media, put out an op-ed or a flier and then BOOM! out of no where comes the carefully researched counter punch from the Perry team. They will usually do it in the most public and splashy way-guaranteed to knock the opponent on his/her knees. He/or she will either have to back up their past actions or restate or renege on the ones just uttered. The opponent will have to have a hinged spine in order to whipsaw back and forth trying to re-cover. The opponent forgot to check for long term consequences before he JUMPED for the bait so temptingly hanging out there. I have witnessed this happen to both Karl Rove and to David Axelrod’s candidates.

LOL! That's ass backwards from the rest of the country.

I heard Perry getting booed as he tried to answer on both those points, and I'm deaf as a post.

Even my teenagers pointed out how stupid Perry looked with his feeble answers. "That's how we did in here in TEXAS" plays in Dallas or San Antonio, but not in the rest of the country.

Cheers!

I see a lot of new comers on here finding fault with Perry, but I do not see them offering someone better. I am from Texas and I know Perry's shortcomings, but he is still better than the rest, all of whom could wipe Obama’s.......

I see even more newcomers blindly pushing Perry and trashing everyone else.

I was glad that one of his operatives slipped up and posted their technique out in the open on another site which seems to me to have recently "flipped" to Perry-cheering-section.

Cheers!

It's hard to believe that people calling themselves 'conservatives' have pinned their hopes on this buffoon.

Just curious. Outside of immigration (concern for me as well) and Gardasil (not so much), on which issues do you feel Perry has positions that are not conservative?

Or, is one of those an automatic disqualifier for you?

Who is this “operative,” or which thread are you referring to? I’d like to see that.

Guess I found one of the people making the rounds on conservative sites Trashing Perry. You are entitled to your opinion, but just talking trash makes your opinion not matter.

What I mean is that just like GWB, it's a question of degree, not substance. GWB was supposed to be far far more conservative than Gore or Kerry, BUT...

The fence still never got built. There are far more illegals in the US than before Bush got in. Bush grew the debt by 4 trillion, he grew the Federal Govt exponentially, etc etc etc.

IMHO, America can't take another change by degree. We need a REAL Conservative who takes on BOTH Parties and the Crony Culture and the addicted-to-power lifelong political hacks. I guess you can figure out who I support. :-)

“All I know is that Michelle Bachmann did herself in with the Texas Tea Party tonight. We had already researched the Gardasil issue ....I’m going to do for Sarah Palin. I’m going to send her what support I can. “

Sarah VERY FIRMLY took Bachmann’s side over Perry’s on the Gardasil issue right after the debate.

Newt has been doing a good job expressing what you are saying. But do we not need to vet our candidates? Romney on Obamacare is a non-starter.

Perry pandering to illegals, a la GWB, is a non-starter. What is this with the “you can go to college and it doesn’t matter what your last name is”. That’s not the issue. Illegal immigration is the issue. He seems a little too much like George W. Bush, in that he is not quick on his feet during a debate. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Obama beat Perry in a debate, and that is unacceptable with the record that Obama has accumulated.

Oh, so you claim to be deaf as a post and yet you claim you heard boo’s...maybe you just heard your silly teenage daughters boo.

The thing is that Gardasil is a dead issue. As well as the border fence. You don’t build a 1200 mile fence expecting horned toads and lizards to keep people from jumping over it...it’s an insane cost for nothing. Texans also know the Gardasil issue and we will see that it’s put to rest.

Can you believe how ‘unhinged’ some of the thinking is on here? Honestly...this crap will hand the marxist another 4 and will be the end of our country as we know it.

Just listened to Perry get boo'd by Tea Partiers for his position on illegal immigration. Even Huntsman is beating him up on it. If Huntsman can legitimately smack you on anything, you are on the wrong side of the issue. After doing due diligence for myself, I just do not understand the continued hype for Perry. Doesn't make sense.

That’s fine and dandy, but Sarah Palin only has one vote...we have the many many votes as well as the electoral votes.

In my book, it's paid disruptors -- a bunch of rich Texans got together and made a $55 million campaign fund for Perry designed to hustle him through to victory in the first group of primaries before anyone has time to vet his background or notice his native stupidity.

They're doing this to counter the fact that he doesn't have a genuine ground game.

Fortunately, the bloom is off the Yellow-Livered Rose of Texas.

Cheers!

I came into this open to Perry. Gave him a pass after what I thought was a weak performance on his first outing. Tired, dealing with wildfires, typical first-time finding of sea legs. But I found him just as weak tonight. I knew he was squishy on illegal immigration — an important issue for me — but his answers were unpersuasive. He appeared surprisingly unprepared for challenges. Not close to what one would expect for a top-tier candidate. It’s still early, but ...

Sorry, troll-boy.

You Perrysites can spam every thread hear on FR, but the rest of the country actually heard the debates, and they heard the boos.

The bloom is coming off the rose, the Texas blitzkrieg campaign by acclamation is failing.

Cheers!
