Rick Perry’s Political Judo

As I have said before, it constantly amazes me to watch what the media describes as “experienced” senior campaign advisers fail to follow through and do their research. “Know thy enemy” is the first rule of politics 101 and yet supposed ” unbeatable” campaign influence peddlers have failed to learn this lesson when it comes to Rick Perry. I t is downright amusing to watch the show.

<snip>

Perry’s people will either leak something Perry has said that is “damaging” in the past or will leak something written to the media. It is either this or it is said in a debate or press conference. His campaign will give the opponent the time (perhaps a day, perhaps a week) to pontificate, make numerous statements to the media, put out an op-ed or a flier and then BOOM! out of no where comes the carefully researched counter punch from the Perry team. They will usually do it in the most public and splashy way-guaranteed to knock the opponent on his/her knees. He/or she will either have to back up their past actions or restate or renege on the ones just uttered. The opponent will have to have a hinged spine in order to whipsaw back and forth trying to re-cover. The opponent forgot to check for long term consequences before he JUMPED for the bait so temptingly hanging out there. I have witnessed this happen to both Karl Rove and to David Axelrod’s candidates.

Gardasil. Mentioning that $6,000 isn't enough to be a bribe, given that you've taken in $30 million in campaign contributions, makes it look like you only accept LARGE bribes.

I'm not a Perry-bot (in-state tuition and related crud for illegals greatly bothers me)...
...but I take this far more of a statement that "at two hundredths of one percent of the campaign war chest, this contribution doesn't rise to the appearance of impropriety."

There are serious questions, not regarding the contribution, but the campaign manager helping out his old client by sticking the bill on the insurance companies, who we all have to pay for. And this is all mitigated by the fact that HPV can indeed be a problem.

But to say that Perry's retort is proof he's a whore is a couple of bridges too far.

I actually thought that was one of Perry's better responses.

It showed the absurdity of the charge that he decided on Gardasil because he was on the take for the massive sum of $5000.

It would have been much better if he had put his pinky to his lip and made the statement "Dr. Evil" style though.

Getting the measly figure of the donation is critical to get rid of that ridiculous charge. We have bundlers raising hundreds of thousands for all the major candidates, and some on our side are charging crony capitalism over a tiny donation, hardly larger than the max donation of one citizen.

I wanted to support Perry. Having watched his performance in two debates, I’m embarrassed by his inarticulateness and superficiality on the issues. IMHO we need an articulate and reasoned advocate for conservatism. Perry doesn’t fit that bill.

It's hard to believe that people calling themselves 'conservatives' have pinned their hopes on this buffoon.

I thought he was very articulate, but I’m only an almost seasoned citizen.

4-6 months ago Donald Trump led in the polls, 4 years ago Rudy Giuliani led in the polls. What does that tell us?

Always defending the indefensible.

With his pro-ILLEGAL alien record, the gardasil fiasco and TTC, he's given them a lot to defend.

Well, frankly, I look forward to his rope-a-dope strategy looping in Bachman and Palin both. Bachman was overboard against our front runner and Palin is in no position to coronate anybody. Her followers are dropping like flies in winter.

But to say that Perry's retort is proof he's a whore is a couple of bridges too far.

A person innocent of influence peddling would not have dismissed the charges because they had "even bigger contributions elsewhere".

The response was pathognomonic for the pay-to-play mindset that is so ingrained, that pay-for-play is a mark of superiority over other state governments that don't do it out in the open.

Cheers!

Not from Texas. But I think Perry is a good and capable man, as much as one can be after a life in politics. It sure as hell beats a commie rich kid punk that worked at a Baskin Robbins. To me, Perry has the right positions, like Cain and Bachmann. But he is better able to make the executive experience case for a state government. Does he have a weakness or two? Yes. But nothing compared to Bluff Daddy.

It tells me to keep an eye on the polls, but we all know the polls can change.

Here’s what I tell you I’m going to do for Sarah Palin. I’m going to send her what support I can. But I am not going to trash my own governor with lies just to get her a win...that’s dishonest.

I know what you mean, but he doesn’t have to take Bachmann down. She knocked herself out tonight and doesn’t even realize it yet. Women can’t get away with that kind of shrieking. Made us all look bad. As for Palin, yeah, Fox News tonight was just sad. She as much as said she’s not running because she’s perfectly happy to be a disruptive force in the primary. She apparently defines her role as someone who will tell others how to think. I’m afraid that role won’t last much longer. It’s just said it had to turn out this way. I really liked them both and was a huge Palin fan in 2008.

It seems like a big change, but in reality it's the same guy talking.

Some of the Perry criticism is legit, but this is just silly.

You really trying to tell me you see no difference between Obammy and Perry on: guns, taxes, spending, abortion, business regulations, tort reform, judicial appointments, etc?

Even on illegal immigration which is BY FAR Perry's weakest issue, the Kenyan is to his left.
