Conservative commentator George Will did double duty today, first defending the Constitution from those who believe the document was intended to be interpreted flexibly, and then later on This Week, also delivering a message much less likely to be cheered in some conservative circles. Will argued that it is impossible for the deportation of all illegal immigrants in the country to ever be considered a realistic solution.
Will believed that if the borders are secured, then and only then, could a non-politicized discussion take place about what to do with the illegal immigrants currently in America. If there are 11 million illegal immigrants in the country, Will explained why its impossible to think rounding them up could ever be possible:
To deport them would require not just police measures we would never tolerate. The majority have been here five years or more, theyve had children here, their children are citizens. But to depart them would require a line of buses bumper-to-bumper extending from San Diego to Alaska. Not going to happen. And as soon as people come to terms with that, then we get on to settling it.
Given that a secure border is not a weird aspiration, Will argues Americans are not xenophobic and merely just want security. Unfortunately, such a common sense, middle of the road approach probably seems out of reach given how highly politicized the immigration debate always gets.

With the technology that is available - one has to ask - WHY? The why is ... Many Visa Overstays are actually working in high tech companies ... and everyone in the government knows it ... Oh... I get it CHEAPER High Tech labor beyond the allowed programs... such crap...
The latest data show 22.1 million immigrants holding jobs in the U.S. with an estimated 8 million being illegal aliens. By increasing the supply of labor between 1980 and 2000, immigration reduced the average annual earnings of native-born men by an estimated $1,700 or roughly 4 percent. Among natives without a high school education, who roughly correspond to the poorest tenth of the workforce, the estimated impact was even larger, reducing their wages by 7.4 percent. The reduction in earnings occurs regardless of whether the immigrants are legal or illegal, permanent or temporary. It is the presence of additional workers that reduces wages, not their legal status.
The Bureau of Labor statistics for May 2011 show a national unemployment rate of 9.1 percent, including 16.2 percent for blacks and 11.9 percent for Hispanics. 23 million Americans are seeking full-time employment. Despite the economic downturn, the U.S. continues to bring in 125,000 new, legal foreign workers a month. This includes new permanent residents (Green Cards) and long-term temporary visas and others who are authorized to take a job. This makes no sense.
Hey Thanks. Now if we can just convince the DOJ to implement those federal laws, to announce that no more will people being in the USA illegally will be given welfare, jobs, low-cost tuition (paying less than Americans) free medical unless in an emergency. All employers must run a check. But what happens? The politicians looking for illegal voting (no ID check) to keep them in power. It’s infuriating.
If we make staying painful enough, they will leave of their own accord.
I've gone back to calling 'trafficking' what it is - slavery. Why in the world did anyone try to pretty it up by calling it trafficking in the first place?
Absolutely correct. An even easier solution would be to pass a law that say if you are in this nation illegally thirty days from now, you can never become a U.S. citizen, and we reserve the right to jail you forever.
President Dwight Eisenhower did it with no trouble at all. Illegal aliens should be deported for many reasons. It has been pointed out on several threads here how it can be done easily.
Another country-club, Big Government conservative.
Here are some ideas:
Send the National Guard to protect the border, and triple the size of the Border Patrol.
Increase the number of ICE agents.
Require use of E-Verify.
Cut off ALL benefits to illegals. ALL benefits.
Put those who knowingly employ illegals in jail — and increase the fines by about 200 percent.
Empower Border Patrol to shoot illegals in most circumstances and to enter Mexico if need be,
Build the fence. Use imprisoned illegals to do it.

They didn’t all get in here in one damn day! 300,000 a month is possible, thats 3.6 million a year.....done in less than one Presidential term. Nuf said.
How about we deport George Will? The guy is a cliche wrapped in a bowtie.
Well - I am glad some believe those Government Statistics... I don’t ... So - illegal alien wages can be calculated - but they cannot be found and deported... Hmmm ?
The actual info I know first hand is - brick layers in about 1999 made $18.00 to $22.00 an hour - and the trade was populated with AMERICANS... the current rate for brick layers is about $8.50 to $10.00 an hour and they are mostly Mexican. The same goes for Meat Packers in northern states.
And if anyone believes that there are only 8 million illegal aliens in the USA - then I have swamp land in Florida to sell them ... The truth is there are about 20 Million ILLEGALS at a bare minimum in the USA.. To wit... Two years ago the Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety issued a letter - stating that there were 4 million illegal aliens in Texas - of which 2 million had obtained a Texas Drivers License with FALSE DOCUMENTS... I don’t believe that anything posted by the Government is accurate - ‘cause it was issued by the LYING U.S. Government...
Pushing his leftist talking points... his corporate puppet masters are pulling his strings again. FU will... you little fag.
LLS
Strange that if a US citizen was using fake IDs to obtain benefits illegally that they'd be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. But a criminal alien is "entitled" to benefits that they obtained with stolen IDs.
Because of simps like George Will
We don’t need to deport them. Cut off their welfare, and pass E-Verify, and they’ll have to go home themselves.
Billy Crystal is a Yankees fan but owns a piece of the Diamonbacks.
I can confirm that data anecdotally based on interviews my grassroots immigration group had with blue collar workers in the DC area. It is proof that there is not a shortage of workers. If there were, wages would be increasing not decreasing.

I agree that no one knows how many illegals are really here. But think tanks like Pew and CIS must use the government figures to retain some semblance of credibility for the public. A Bear-Stearns study several years ago found the number closer to 20 million based on such things as school records, consular data, etc.
In some ways it is better to understate the presence of the illegals in the census figures, which determine congressional seats per state and districting as well as the allocation of federal funds. We are creating "rotten boroughs" similar to those in the UK.
As bad as illegal immigration is, legal immigration is worse and more destructive in the long term. We will lose this country through the ballot box.
George Will, surrender monkey.
