NBC: 'Puritanical' Americans Must Become 'Anesthetized' to Sex Scandals
Media Research Center ^ | 6/9/11 | Kyle Drennan

Posted on 06/09/2011 3:41:02 PM PDT by markomalley

Appearing on Tuesday's NBC Today, advertising executive Donny Deutsch and psychotherapist Robi Ludwig both agreed that the American people should not stop being "shocked" by political sex scandals. Deutsch declared: "...we have to stop being shocked and amazed....when men who are conquerors by nature also chase women....we as a society have got to become a little more anesthetized to this."

Moments later, as Duetsch one again proclaimed, "Let's stop being shocked at this stuff!," Ludwig blamed American moral values for the attention the scandal received: "We're a very puritanical country and so we're a little bit sexually repressed. So on the one hand we like hearing stories about sex, but we want certain things from our leaders that maybe is not realistic and maybe that's the sad part."

While Duestch and Ludwig certainly thought Weiner's actions were wrong, they seemed more concerned with the negative public reaction to the Congressman's lewd behavior.

Anchor Natalie Morales wondered if Weiner could "survive this politically?" Deutsch seemed to suggest an eventual comeback: "Always when you're in the minute, 'It's over, it's over, it's over, it's over,' you know?" Morales observed: "Well, [former New Governor Eliot] Spitzer eventually had to resign with all the pressure." Deutsch countered: "Well, now Spitzer's got a big television show on CNN. Who would have thought that?" Morales conceded: "Talk about a comeback in a way."

Here is a full transcript of the June 7 segment:

Regular fare on TV would have been horrifying 50 years ago. With sexting now in the nomenclature, how long before this sort of thing becomes passe’?

The truth is, if you lived in Weiner’s district, you may have been following him on Twitter for some reason, like trying to see the opposition’s opinion on something, or an upcoming vote. One does assume that following your congressperson on Twitter would be a very benign thing to do, as surely he would only be sending out political tweets.

So you could have been checking your twitter feed and suddenly have come upon the wiener straining against the grey shorts. He really did send his crotch shot to everyone.

I see no difference between exposing ones self in public or into your home window than what weiner did. Yes, he should be arrested. And he certainly was not on his way to vote.

I am sure that in Europe they enjoy glancing at their female leaders’ gynecologist-view photos over breakfast, and delight in their Prime Minister’s home porn videos over lunch.

LOL!

That said, Weiner was pretty confident when he laughed about all this, and I think the Dems have made their ritual "shocked" noises - and he'll keep his position and will soon be regarded as persecuted, just like his mentor, Bill Clinton.

What he did was essentially display the contempt of the leftist ruling class for the rest of us little people. Ethics and self-restraint and doing your job are for the proles.

The only thing I want to know is when he had time for conducting state business. His fingers must have been weak from sexting and he must barely have been able to speak after his phone-sex sessions (on closed Congressional lines). But I guess that doesn't matter if you're a Dem.

If a man or woman will cheat on their spouse, they will certainly not hesitate to lie, cheat and steal from their constituents. Extra-marital sex is just a sensational manifestation of one who practices deceit.

What they like or want, and what makes the feel good, is more important to them than the people to whom they owe their trust.

That alone, my friends, should disqualify them from serving in public office, I don’t care who they are.

The question is, what scandal are they sitting on which they are hoping to pre-emptively defuse?

Cheers!

This is just immoral people supporting immoral behavior.

I'd sure like to see these people face Huma & say these things. But then, perhaps she agrees. If so, I suggest a regular test for HIV/STDs.

EASY - NBC needs to get democrat politicians to "go on the record" saying they don't feel they have to be faithful to their wives and it's OK to have mucho babes on the sidelines twittering away all night.

As soon as they do that, everyone will understand and we'll all hold hands and sing We Are The World or some such thing ... Or maybe dems won't be elected to anything.... Go FOR IT NBC. LEAD THE WAY

I assume these two will go on the record saying it's OK to cheat on wives - including their own... Come on liberals, step up to the plate...

How about dem wives? Can they twitter open legged shots to 25 year old boys ?

Get on the record dems... we want to know how YOU really feel.

We suspect the MSM has been lying about how dems don't care and Republicans must be held to an impossibly high standard...

They’d have to be anesthetized to sex first, and that’s...not going to happen.

I’m thinking maybe some of these tweets went to young men & boys. How many of the 198 people he follows are males? People like Weiner will have sex with a goat if the opportunity presents itself.

Yes, it’s so our fault that a man in high office is sending naked pictures of his ding to a bunch of strange woman. And we’re crazy for thinking their is something wrong with it.

Got it.

I'd sure like to see these people face Huma & say these things.

Huma was a WH intern under BJ, just like Monica.

She totally understands the Democrat playbook.

They have been normalizing perverted behavior for decades. It started when they had homosexuality declassified as a mental disorder.
