Earlier this month a SWAT team burst into the home of Jose Guereña. Awaken by his wifes screams that armed men were breaking into the house, Guereña grabbed his rifle to defend his family. The SWAT team shot him 60 times. As Guereña lay bleeding, they blocked paramedics from tending to his wounds. An hour later he died.
Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik blamed the baleful influence of right wing talk radio for the death. If it werent for the repeated assertions by talk show hosts like Rush Limbaugh that people have a Constitutional right to keep and bear arms this tragedy would never have occurred, Dupnik argued. When people other than law enforcement agents are armed these kinds of mishaps are inevitable.
Though Guereña never fired his weapon, in fact the safety was still on when he was shot by multiple sheriffs deputies, Dupnik insisted that the killing was warranted. Guereña lived in a bad neighborhood, Dupnik claimed. That alone creates a presumption of guilt. A guy with a gun in a bad neighborhood is a threat. My men had every right to take him down.
The fact that Guereña was a Marine who had served two tours in Iraq was used to bolster Dupniks case. Look, a Marine with a weapon represented a severe danger to my men, Dupnik said. If they hadnt fired first he probably wouldve killed them all. It was only quick thinking that saved the day.
As for blocking the paramedics, Dupnik maintained that the hours delay was necessitated by the need for a search of the premises to ensure that there were no other gunmen, guns, or drugs to be dealt with. If that means a suspect has to bleed while we do it, so be it.
No other gunmen, guns, or contraband of any sort were found in the home. Guereñas wife and two children were in the house during the raid. Fortunately, the SWAT team refrained from shooting them.

thanks, for "reminding" us of the rapidly advancing "Stalinism"....
HAIL! OBAMA!
It's like racing for a satire writer. Reality is inside you on the turn, swinging wide, and you are between it and the wall. The lane keeps getting narrower.
Im afraid that we Americans dont quite understand that our country has been hijacked by forces that believe our Constitution is about some penciled comments on a piece of paper, easily erased and modified, and that protection from the forces of fictitious evil is more important than freedom.
Many of us do, and have for some time realized the hijacking was going on. To speak out about it just got you branded a crackpot.
This has been going on for a long time, but I'd say the slope of the curve changed in the sixties somewhere between people rioting in the streets and the "Great Society", the hippies, and the budding environmental movement.
Warnings about the potential for abuse of everything from giveaways to (in some cases) seemingly reasonable regulatory powers were shrugged off by those who would not jealously guard their freedom. It was tough being a voice crying out in the wilderness, but more people realize now that power--any power--will eventually be used by humans in the worst possible way, which we are seeing even more clearly now--but then not all of us.
Recall warnings about the potential for abuse of the Patriot Act? People supported it--patriotic people--never realizing that with a little tweaking the definition of 'terrorist' might include anyone opposed to the totalitrian machinations of their own anti-Constitutional government--namely themselves.
Power was granted to one administration freely when wnother might have been fought tooth and nail.
Now, here we are.
It doesn't matter who, it doesn't matter what party label they wear, it does not matter who they claim to worship nor how, not one of the politicians nor their minions who took an oath to support and defend the Constitution of these United States should be allowed to violate that oath and get away with it, much less be continue in office. They should be stripped of position, benefits, and salary, and fired.
Until people know their rights and take a stand, until more oppose the usurpation of power by those who should be their servants, we will be ever burdened with the chains of bondage and treated as chattel by those who would be our masters but who should serve us instead.
And until Americans quit worshiping their servants (as they did with the Kennedys and have often continued to do), this simply will not change.
Instead, we give the butler who stole the house silverware a raise, and praise the guards who helped him for keeping us 'safe'.
Before anyone who might misinterprets that let me simply say this:
May Almighty God Bless each and every one of those who have fought, who have sacrificed for this wonderful country, in uniform or not, in the past, the present, and who will in the future. May we, the American People, be worthy of the opportunities won by their blood, sweat, and travail, and may we all do the part we are called upon by God and honor to preserve and regain the Liberty so dearly won. I ask this in the Name of Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, Amen.
Hang in there FRiend, it's just starting to get really interesting.
Thanks for the ping. Excellent. Too close to true to be funny; read some of the police interview with the wife.
I don’t know what to think about this; I like to give the benefit of the doubt to the cops normally but I have seen no evidence that they identified themselves as police before they opened fire. Which puts this dangerously close to an execution.
They sent “several teams from four different police agencies” including an armored personnel carrier, for a pot bust? Really? And they entered the home without a knock and without identifying themselves, and are surprised when the man tries to defend his home? Really? That would be a death sentence for many people, normal people... you hear a noise, someone is coming in, you grab your piece, and find out they were cops after they riddle you with holes and you are on your way to the next life.
There is something going very seriously wrong in the USA. When our public servants "put several teams together" for a pot bust knowing that it might get innocent civilians and our vets killed doing what Americans have done for 300 years (protecting their castle from those breaking and entering) there is something seriously wrong.
This isn't about Dems or Repubs, or libs or conservatives, this is about an institutional system breakdown that is gone a muck and our country is being destroyed by it.
My vote will go to the one guy that stands up for what is most important, our Constitution. The rest is all media hype intended to divide us.
I agree 100%. It’s is going to take much more than donating to Party candidates or posting on forums or listening to talk radio to insure that our rights are not usurped.
The current movement of the USA has not been in the direction of more liberty. I’ve read where the so-called organizations that have the ear of government are on the watch for Americans who espouse liberty. They see it as a threat to their status quo.
My vote will be for the only candidate that consistently touts and supports the Constitution, because in the end that is the only concrete document we have that supports continuation of our democratic republic.
These other issues that sometimes get the limelight are intentional distractions.
John Semmens is a bad man. A very bad man. ;^)
A trained marine would go through a platoon of these potbellied SWAT thugs like crap through a goose.
