Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

I have seen that the site owner doesn't take kindly to attacks on FReepers like the one you just made.

So if I am told not to fight back but just lie down and take it in a discussion about a massacre of Mormons, what, I'm never to mention it again?

Fine, the truth has no place on FR, you know what to do.

Nana, I am not going to try to figure out all your hot buttons, but I will vote for the best conservative for President be they Black, Green, red or purple, Male, female or neither. To me when it comes to a secular office, how you will govern is more important than your personal attributes.

Is that Clear enough?

BTW, you have really got a problem with Women in the Church, it might interest you to know Men can't get into heaven with out a spouse either.

As for the thing about men, well, Honey, God is a man. He set up a patriarchal order. if you don't like it there is another kingdom, but also run by a man... Take your pick.

Thanks, I think I'm pretty mainstream, then again, I think most people do, even the people at the fringe.

If men can’t get into Heaven without a spouse, can hermaphrodites get in by themselves?

The question is what constitutes "like-mindedness". I am under the impression that I am pro-God, pro-Life, pro-Family, and pro-Libery, but apparently, as a Catholic (or, speaking for others, as a Mormon), somehow I deserve to be subjected to a never-ending torrent of abuse. Not being a masochist, I feel no compelling need to be continually put on the defensive for my religious beliefs, nor do I assume the LDS deserve similar treatment.

How, exactly, am I a "concern troll", as you have designated me? Surely people who seem to have nothing to add to the site but Mormon-bashing or Catholic-bashing, and provide a plethora of such posts, are better candidates for the designation of "troll" than am I, who post quite rarely on any subject.

My argument with the RM is again a matter of simple logic. You can't say "All adherents to X believe Y" without saying that each individual adherent to X believes Y. So the notion that there is actually a distinction between what is "personal" and what isn't is non-existent.

I've tried to reason with you. I've tried to reason with the moderators. I've not engaged in the name-calling or the abusive behavior which has been continually directed at me. It's all been to no avail.

So zot me, if that's what you want to do. Ultimately FR's just a website; there are others. Eventually economic reality will catch up with you, because the more well-behaved posters you ban, the fewer contributors there will be to FReepathons, and the crazier the place will get. I'm really sorry to see you squander the opportunity to be an organization of real political influence, as well as squander the opportunity to form a coalition of the politically like-minded but religiously diverse people.

It's your call, of course. But then why not just put a "no LDS" and "no Popery" sign on the front door, so that we know to stay away?

Jim, I have the utmost respect for the original purpose of Freerepublic.

Most freepers here are great upstanding conservatives who will work tirelessly for the republic and for bringing us back to conservative constitutional government.

The exception in my mind is those whose religious views are more important to them than the purpose of this site and they damage the site's reputation with non-stop attacks on not just Mormonism, but many religions... Catholics and Baptists come to mind.

I do not support Mitt Romney.

I am relentlessly pro Life.

I do not support the religious cleansing that seems to be happening here.

I am a Mormon.

I support my faith.

I have always held my principles here and I am not going to change them even if it gets me banned.

I was told those things, I complained and was told to grow a thicker skin.

If telling the truth is not allowed then please ban me now.

If however FreeRepublic is still a place for the furtherance of conservative ideals, I'd love to stay.

Your call, it's your site.

He grew up and was baptised a Disciple and attended Eureka College.

He attended and joined a Presbyterian Church in California.

I regularly attend services of various denominations when I am away from my home Church. We all sit at the Table of Christ.

Most sources say that he became a practicing Presbyterian, not that he merely attended one of their churches from convenience.

Kid they didnt come near my COG/Baptist county when we needeed help after the tornadoes last month

Oh thats right you said “good work”

as in doing good works and working their way into their after life

You never did accuse the mormons of helping their non-mormon neighbors

I stand corrected

Nana, You are misinformed. these are but snippets from page on of Google. I linked the whole article so you can check up on me without effort. I didn't make this up.

Alabama tornado victims get volunteer help from Mormons to Baptists

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama -- Missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are often unwelcome guests when they knock at the front door wearing white dress shirts and holding a Book of Mormon.

But after a tornado, when Mormon missionaries arrive in work clothes carrying chainsaws to help clear fallen trees, they are a welcome sight.

More than 4,000 volunteers for "Mormon Helping Hands" have been working in tornado-ravaged areas, including Tuscaloosa, Pleasant Grove, Concord, Moody, Sipsey, Argo, Anniston, Gadsden, Cullman, Phil Campbell and Hackleburg. They came from all over Georgia, Louisiana, Tennessee and Kentucky to help. They have been working the past two weekends and will be out again this weekend.
Latter-day Saints help with cleanup after tornadoes hit southern United States
In North Carolina, Latter-day Saints in 29 congregations in Fayetteville, North Raleigh and Holly Springs were asked to leave their church meetingsearly on Sunday, 17 April 2011, to help neighbors whose homes were damaged or destroyed. “We have friends and neighbors who are in need,” local Church leaderJoseph Catlett said. “Go home, put on your work clothes, and let’s go help.”
2,500 Mormon Helping Hands offer relief to tornado victims
About 2,500 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints volunteered for two days to help tornado ravaged victims from Tuscaloosa to Chattanooga last weekend. Volunteers donated more than 45,000 man-hours of work and filled more than 1,000 cleanup work orders.
I'll wait for your retraction... Crickets.

I have a ton more links... Google before you speak it'd make ya look smarter...

Nana, Sigh, we are still helping. I'm guessing your home is still standing or you'd not be posting. So why are you posting, not helping?

As for loans with interest, fine how much can I borrow from you without interest and for how long?

Thought so.

Here it is.

“Although raised in his mother’s Disciples of Christ denomination, beginning in 1963 Reagan generally attended Presbyterian church services at Bel-Air Presbyterian Church, Bel-Air, California. He became an official member of Bel-Air Presbyterian after leaving the Presidency. In addition, Reagan stated that he considered himself a “born-again Christian.”

Is there anything unnatural about artificial insemination?

And so with a twink of his wand, du invalidates the bible and turns all those prophets and apostles cited into false teachers.

He partook of flesh and blood—was begotten of his Father, as we were of our fathers," (Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses, v. 8, p. 115).

Bruce McConkie stated, "Christ was begotten by an Immortal Father in the same way that mortal men are begotten by mortal fathers," (Mormon Doctrine, 1966, p. 547).

So the mormon men are all conceived using a turkey baster?

Who to believe speaks for mormon teachings - the mormon president they named their university after and a more modern authority of mormon doctrines - or du.

BTW, Szonian's bring'em young's citations in JOD do not refer or mention the phrase 'virgin mary'. Mcconkie refers to 'mary' and not 'virgin mary'.

Oh really du - ah classic du. The prophets of bible really heard from God -unlike romney and other mormons with delusions of godhood like yourself.

I'd like to think that if the President was open to hearing and the nation is praying. God would speak to the president in a crisis even if he was not in the approved by "Flying Imams" religion section. I just don't think God is as petty as we get sometimes.

As for delusions of godhood, I don't have any.

Humor Break!
What's the difference between God and a Doctor?

God doesn't think he's a doctor.

God did not take her virginity even though she got pregnant. (No to the physical sex thing you keep wanting to talk about)

Mormon turkey baster doctrine.
