Can we please keep comments about the Mormon faith off the political discussion threads?
one man's opinion...

Posted on 05/24/2011 4:07:08 PM PDT by ken5050

As we enter the GOP primary season, I'm starting to notice more and more an annoying trend here in FR. It seems as though everytime there's an article, or someone posts a comment about Romney, either pro or con, it nearly always devolves into an extended, and acrimonious discussion about the Mormon faith. Those who defend it, and those who, for whatever reasons, can't abide it, both sides seem determined to wage an "end of times" batte on all the FR threads. Frankly, I'm tired of it, and just wish it would stop. I think that probably 99% of others here feel the same way.

it's more important that the POTUS have a faith...

Sorry. Billions & billions of people have "a faith"...Some have it in witchdoctors & native "practioners"...some have it in millions of Hindu gods...etc.

Misdirected faith isn't any more "complimentary" Biblical wise than no faith -- because none of them honor the one True Ultimate God.

Mormon leaders concede they don't worship the One True Ultimate God. Even Joseph Smith said in Teachings of the Prophet Joseph Smith that a god from the "council of gods" appointed a man to be "god" of this world.

A low totem-pole god is no "God" at all. "Faith" in him is no faith that glorifies that One True Ultimate God -- because it is a direct rival to Him for all worship and prayer and glory and honor!

God can do anything right? Even answer the prayer of a Mormon if the fate of the nation is on the line...

Except, then, who would get the glory for answering such a Mormon POTUS' prayer? The One True Ultimate God? Or the low-level man-become-god who has a body of flesh & bones per Mormonism? (I think you know the answer)

If you are going to make the claim that Mainstream religious scholarship considers Mormonism Christian (which it doesn’t)in an attempt to defend MormONism spell MormON right...

I guess people can’t help everyone. But if you help your own, well, that’s something.

Thanks for the proofreading. I’m pretty sure I spell it right most of the time.

In my Presbyterian church, we grew up being taught that Mormonism was a form of Christianity; not necessarily “Christian,” per se. We shared a youth program. People’s hearts must have been bigger back then.

Syncro - what you will not hear from du on this subject was that the poster JR was responding to was ABUSING the RF Caucus rules by posting articles hostile to Christianity in a forum that restricted comments. The mormon got into JR's face and he zotted him - like he has done to many other non-mormons. Du's link is to another mormon who was zotted by JR because he was blog pimping and then personally attacking Freepers on the website he was trying to lure them to in order to ambush them. All the while this same mormon was dissing FR. Once again, du will not provide you the full context of the setting - because the facts speak loudly against him.

One person's abuse is another person's appropriate use.

JR is completely within his rights to Zot anyone not following the standards of conduct he has established here, it's his house. However, the comments made by JR on that thread and the subsequent removal of the Mormon Caucus were not in keeping with even handed and fair treatment. One poster gets an entire religion in trouble and get's opponents of that religion a free pass to break other rules?

It was not handled well. We all have bad days. I had hoped that upon reflection Jim would rectify the situation. He has not. His house is now one that I have had to block access to fro my kids where I used to encourage them to come and learn of politics here.

Actions have consequences. I make no excuses for PD, he was wrong. I also make no excuses for JR, he was wrong too.

BTW, Godzilla, ya gonna acknowledge that you were wrong here or not?

Du's link is to another mormon who was zotted by JR because he was blog pimping and then personally attacking Freepers on the website he was trying to lure them to in order to ambush them. All the while this same mormon was dissing FR. Once again, du will not provide you the full context of the setting - because the facts speak loudly against him.

So, JR can make rules that allow the ambushing of Mormons, but getting people to come to anther site to be ambushed that's just evil mean and nasty! Hypocrite much?

JFTR, I don't approve of that tactic either, it's just where I could find the quote.

Lastly, the facts never speak loudly, they whisper with a still small voice. Satan is the guy with the megaphone, but you can still hear the truth if you listen.

The Jews don't believe the Trinity, the First and Second century Christians Don't believe the Trinity, but in 325 AD, the Trinity becomes doctrine.

And of course du must lie about the numerous references and writings regarding the Trinity hundreds of years PRIOR to Nicea.

There was indeed a schism in the church about it, but you can't find a thing written by the apostles or in the bible that does not have to be interpreted with circular logic to get to the Trinity. (Of course they meant the Trinity, because the Trinity is what they were talking about...)

Read the links from my page here, many go straight to the Catholic encyclopedia on line. I guess that is part of the "Facts not agreeing with me" part...

And blindly ignoring the evidence is proof of nothing either. Both do not show mormons as being Christian and NCC indicates them to be another religion altogether.

Mormons do tithe. It’s part of their faith. But I don’t think their good works are built on the basis of cash payments.

Anyhow, we aren’t gonna agree on this.

MY goal is to warn innocents of heresy that will lead them to hell.

Rubbish. Your goal is to get your jolies trashing people who are your natural political allies.

The pleasure you take in tormenting people who are mistaken in their theology reflects more poorly on you than on them.

Why do you feel threated by the LDS? If they come to your door, all you need do is tell them you're not interested. That's what I do, and I do the same when the JW's show up.

If you want to know how to deal with Mormons, all you need do is consider the example of Jesus confronting the Samaritan woman at the well. Did He trash her beliefs? Did he condemn her as a heretic? No, he treated her with the respect due to every human being, and thereby convinced her that He had the words of everlasting life.

Your behavior, and that of your cohort, brings disgrace upon authentic Christianity, for you will be judged, by other human beings, not by your arguments, but by your example.

Your apalling behavior also brings disgrace upon this forum, and is one of the reasons that it is (unjustly) characterized as a hate site. In short, it is your behavior which is problematic, far more so than that of the LDS.

Ultimately, the question for FR will be decided by economics. If you're allowed to continue to turn this place into a cesspool by unnecessarily alienating those who are your natural political allies, it will not survive. Your choices are to amend your behavior, be shown the door, or ultimately be deprived of a forum for your bigotry because it no longer exists.

And, BTW, I'm not a member of any "lobby"; I'm just an individual expressing my opinion. My hope is that FR may recover its former sanity and influence, nothing more. But, as a Catholic, I consider that I have paid quite sufficient dues in all the abuse I'm expected to endure in order to participate in FR. And I will give this place not one penny until the bashing stops. Eventually, the financial rubber will meet the road on this, and the management can either recognize that reality, or resign itself to decline and extinction.

Does the royal 'we' include your past leaders who HAVE said it?

Elsie, if you can show where a "past leader" of the LDS church said that God raped Mary, I'll leave FR never to return.

You can't they never said it.

You will find where they have said God was the literal father of Jesus, but that isn't sex and that isn't rape. and it's biblical.

I have been around Mormons a lot (being one), and I have NEVER heard a Mormon say that, humm...

You've no doubt READ a lot of MORMON history.

Did you ever READ where a MORMON has said that?

No, I have read a lot of anti's claiming that was said, but they always had dirty minds, and were seeing what was not in the quotes they claimed to get it from.

Its not part of their “faith”

its part of their doctrines andrequirements a big part

If the mormon males dont tithe they dont get to go to the mormon temple

if they dont get to go to the mormopn temple they dont get to be gods and have their own planet full of very young concubines

Women need not apply

Oh really du - ah classic du. The prophets of bible really heard from God -unlike romney and other mormons with delusions of godhood like yourself.

Nana, I'd love to go down your list and debunk it point by point, but since you have driven away all the lurkers with disgusting accusations, there is no point.

Lets just say you have all the credibility of the guy who said the world would end last Saturday.

You want fair handedness go join the Democrats. I’m the most unfair bastard I know. I’m extremely biased toward the one true God and the KJV bible (without additional books, thank you very much). And my bible commands me to be suspicious of false prophets and false prophecy. Sorry, but I just cannot believe that Joe Smith or any other leader of the Mormon church is a true prophet of God. Or that the book of MORMON is the Word of God. On this I will not bend. That’s just the way it is. Anyone who cannot handle that is welcome to leave FR.

Well, le’see, you are apparently a mind reader, telling freepers what they think, how they derive their ‘jolies’, and what their mental motives are, and then you also seem to be a forecaster of future events since you’re now telling ‘the management’ of this voluntarily supporter website waht will happen if they don’t ‘go back to allowing’ what anti-Christian data pushing has been squelched! Do you even know what the founders of Mormonism have taught as their doctrine, as found in their own words collected in the JOurnal of Discourses? Do you espouse all religions can lead to salvation? Do you really want to endorse the anti-Christian doctrines in Mormonism just so a website you don’t appear to agree with policy of will conform to ‘can’t we all just get along’?
