VANITY: I HATE Brusells Sprouts
Frozen Food or Produce Section | Yours Truly

Posted on 04/10/2010 5:57:19 PM PDT by Allegra

They're just all slimy and gross. I like most other veggies, but Brussells sprouts are disgusting.

Lots of stuff gets slimy when it is over cooked! Cut them in half and simmer in chicken broth for just a few minutes. YUM!

Beats. Beats are the only food I won’t eat (so far at least).

Brussels sprouts gotta get em before they get too bitter then smother them with butter.

Ahem.....they're about the most virulent flatulence producers on the planet.

Blow off a brussel sprout poot on a great date - even at the moment of finding the Promised Land - and it's all over.

Trust me on this......

what's the deal with arugula, anyway?

I never saw arugula at my local store till The One became President. It's a plot I tell you.

Ok, here’s the recipe for fantastic brussel speouts.

Saute them in sesame oil, add a little soy sauce and then coat them in browned sesame seeds.

They are very good

You know what’s good? Brussel sprouts and gin. Seriously. Well, gin with a side of brussel sprouts. Hold the sprouts.

Now, see, I hate brussels sprouts. And people are being very kind and helpful, posting a wide variety of ways to perhaps make them more palatable.

But I hate 'em, so cooking them differently or putting different stuff on them isn't going to change that.

However, your recommendation is one that I could try and probably like.

Broiled. With a little olive oil. Very different breed of cat then.

I don’t know if I like them or not, haven’t had them for a long time.

I’ll bet they’d be real good steamed properly and served with some sauteed onions and breakfast sausage.

Maybe a little hint of vinegar as a condiment.

No, but I've tried scraping them off the plate into the trash.

They're really good that way. :)

If they are the larger sprouts, cut them in half, toss them in a little bit of olive oil and salt then roast them in a preheated 400-425 degree oven for about 15-20 minutes until fork tender. Then if you like, have a little side of mayo (optional) for dipping. They take on a nutty flavor and really are wonderful cooked that way. In fact most veggies cooked that way are so much tastier than boiled.

I'd rather eat toe jam than Brussels sprouts myself.

I will refrain from asking how you know that preference...
