First the Obama Administration opened up the possibility of prosecuting CIA interrogators doing their jobs seeking information from terrorists. Then they tried to go after the Bush Administration lawyers who acted in good faith to protect us in the months after 9/11. Now some of the military brass are court-martialing three brave Navy SEALs for allegedly throwing a single punch at Iraqi terrorist leader Ahmed Hashim Abed. This is wrong. The Washington Times got it right: Save the SEALs.
These brave warriors belong in combat, not in the courthouse. They captured the most wanted terrorist in Iraq. We may never know how many other heroic missions they undertook on behalf of our country. The charges should be dropped, and they should be returned to their unit with our gratitude for their service.
Stand up for the SEALs who are standing up for us!
- Sarah Palin
LOL,, sooo true.
And i think it was kind of odd to suggest we do “due diligence”. I kinda thought i was,,, i was diligently protecting some decent guys from stabs in the back. I can’t believe some want to see them prosecuted. The question for me, is why is their leadership fighting for the enemy?
Propaganda is a front, just like the others.
No doubt it isn’t just about “punching a muzzie”.
Have you read “Lone Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell?
Those guys, out there in the mud and the cold, came across a couple of goatherds. The goatherds were clearly hostile, and the SEALs discussed what to do with them.
These guys were out there, on their own, with a mission to accomplish. If they let the goatherds go, they would go to the enemy, no questions asked. The enemy would come back for them in force, to let them go would be akin to putting their own heads in the noose.
But if they killed them, they knew that they would be at the mercy of their own countrymen, the politically correct chain of command, the politicians, the media, and ultimately, you and me.
If they killed these goatherds to accomplish the mission and save their own skin, they had to depend on their own chain of command to understand the circumstances and stand up for them, because they knew DAMN well that the politicians, the media, and ultimately, you and me would call for them to be thrown to the wolves.
They made the hard choice, all of them against their better judgement, knowing it meant their own lives, to let those goatherds go. The goatherds did what was expected, came back in force with the enemy, and left three of the four SEALS dead, the leader awarded the Medal of Honor, and 16 Special Forces men dead when their helicopter was shot down trying to rescue them.
Those guys made a choice, based on the knowledge that WE...YOU AND ME would hang them out to dry, because we have the luxury of NOT being there. We, their chain of command, the politicians and the media all have the luxury of not getting our hands dirty, but being able to pass judgement on them.
I am not saying they did the wrong thing by not killing those goatherds. I admire that they had the courage to make that choice. But the lone survivor, Marcus Luttrell, thinks the “right” choice was to kill those goatherds on the spot, and maybe there would be the families of 20 Special Forces guys who would have their loved one back.
The guy these SEALs punched was one of the terrorists responsible for the death of the Blackwater contractors, which eventually resulted in the death of another 50 Marines in addition to the 500 or so wounded there. This was probably one of the same people who was hanging around with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, sawing the heads off of people in film studios. In Bing West’s book “No True Glory” he talks about the studio the Marines found, with a guy who had had his legs cut off, but hadn’t died immediately (which was their intent) and they left the guy to suffer for who knows how long holed up in a little cell. This guy and the people he hung around with don’t deserve the protection of civilized society.
So, if these guys lied because they socked a scumbag responsible for the deaths of a lot of people to cover their ass, I don’t fault them a bit. I don’t give a rat’s ass if they covered it up.
Turns out they were well justified in trying to cover it up, seeing the way their chain of command and countrymen have left them twisting in the wind and the way this has turned out.
I have an anti-turd animus. I have absolutley no love for the JAG either so don’t assume where I am coming from, where I have been, etc.
I am not “clearly wrong” on this either. Yes, the military is full of B.S. and internal politics; but not the kind of politics being portrayed or advanced on this and other boards proclaiming a pro-military stance. This became “Republican” actors vs. military justice for selfish reasons. There is no conspiracy folks, these three guys got called to the carpet in a military setting and thought they were above it. But becasue they are seals, they get traction with opportunists.
As I said in my post at #42, these SEALs seem to have read correctly how this situation would turn out.
I could not agree more.
I could not agree more.
This guy sounds like something you’d hear from the nuts at DU. These guys are on the front lines risking their necks while this dolt stabs them in the back. I am glad the he is a one-percenter when it comes to most of the comments on FR.
Yeah. Well, some people think she is an “opportunist”. Doing it all for political gain, red meat for the conservative masses.
They also think people like you and I are uncultured, undiscriminating consumers of red meat thrown to us by the lion tamer Palin.
You keep referring to seals _in general_ as “arrogant” “turds” “above it” etc. It almost seems,,, personal. Did one hurt your feelings somehow, a long time ago? I’m sure he’s very sorry :)
Interservice rivalry is for liberty call, NOT for standing with the enemy against another unit or branch.
And i’m still wondering. In the first place, why do you think an Officer should have called these guys “on the carpet” simply because the true turd, (The murdering body hanger) said a mean SEAL punched his wittle tummy?
Don’t you think the officer should have said,, “too bad it’s only your word, and we actually hope he did.”
Think of how any and EVERY Officer on Iwo Jima would have spoken to a Japanese prisoner who dared make such a complaint. That’s exactly what should have been said by these officers, (who live in a world of carpet) and that’s why you are wrong.
AMEN sir. Well said. Thank you,,,
Agreed. And whatever sick thoughts he has,,, i wish he would stop to think that one of those boys could actually be out there somewhere, and could read this thread.
That would be the real gut punch to worry about. It’s not a personal parlor game, or a fun argument to him and his family. Disgusting to post such things here.
Well, not everyone sees it the way you and I do, that much is plain.
Running powerful ad now to push SecDef to drop the charges. Between the ads and Burton/Rohrbacher, let's pray Gates feels the heat enough to stop this madness.
And good luck to you. I hope you will see that you are helping them enemy with such rhetoric. Such charges are brought to appease people who think like you.
And you are the one who should be ashamed. If you ever wore a globe and anchor, you should think back. It’s a disgrace to see a new blossoming Murtha.
You know what,, you’re right, the SEALS should all be in prison and dishonorably discharged! Feel better now?? sarc/
Congratulations, and who made you God with that kind of judgement?
Just a small thought too, in the future you are a seal,, far into the hostile zone. Do you capture a prisoner who is sure to accuse you of misconduct the minute he gets interrogated by a JAG back at headquarters??? OR did he “grab a knife” and you had to pop him with a suppressed pistol?
Sorry boss,, we really tried to take him alive, (shaking head sadly).
That's it.
Very strange.
Actually, this one appears to be female.
