Texas Governor candidate Medina speaks at Kingwood Tea Party
Ricky's Texas Tea Party ^ | 2-14-2010 | Ricky Saunders

Texas Gubernatorial candidate Debra Medina spoke to an enthusiastic Kingwood Tea Party crowd in far-northeast Houston Saturday interested in hearing her plans to reform the Lone Star State.

Medina made no reference about her Glenn Beck interview. However, the 20 or so random people with whom this reporter spoke before and after her speech seemed to accept Medina’s follow-up response released by her campaign a couple of hours after the Thursday morning radio interview. As Char with Texans for Nullification Today said, “If you go back and look at the radio transcript, when Glenn asked if she believed the government was involved in bringing down the World Trade Centers, Medina’s first two words were, ‘I don’t.’ If she’s guilty of anything, it’s for being verbose and not using a teleprompter.”

The Tea Partiers seemed to be far more concerned about the possibility of having to elect the “lesser of two evils,” incumbent Gov. Rick Perry or Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison, as the next state Governor. Medina pounded on hot button topics such as Perry’s support of the mandatory HPV vaccination, the Trans Texas Corridor and his support of state college tuition rates for illegal immigrants, as well as Hutchison’s support of the Federal Bailouts, Amnesty for illegal immigrants and pro-abortion rights.

The former nurse turned businesswoman was met with raucous applaud when she said she was “unequivocally Pro-Life in all cases.” She referenced Florida’s Terri Schiavo saga, and how in contrast all life in Texas would be protected under a Medina Administration. Medina denounced the Federal government’s “interference” in Texas rights to decide on Abortion and other issues reserved to the States by the US Constitution.

State Sovereignty was a reoccurring theme in Medina’s speech. “Many of you stand with me in saying enough is enough. We’ve had enough tyranny and corruption from our federal government,” she said.

From refusing to recognize Roe v Wade in Texas, to keeping the EPA “off the backs of Texans,” Medina was emphatic in her refusal to allow “illegal Federal actions” if she were governor. Although Medina said she would be willing to support a Texas Resolution declaring State Sovereignty, she said she didn’t see the need to do so, as Texas currently has the right under the Tenth Amendment now – a governor with the courage to “stand up and say no” to the Federal government is all that’s needed.

Illegal immigration was another topic that met the approval of the Tea Party crowd. “When you cross the Texas border, you’re on private property. You are welcome to our state, but you need to go through the gate, not the river.” She indicated that because the Federal government is not meeting its obligation to properly enforcing the international border, she would be compelled to communicate her intensions to the Mexican government, while building up and eventually deploying the Texas National Guard to seal the Texas-Mexico border.

Medina’s passion on Gun Rights and a balanced Budget resonated with the Tea Partiers, as she pointed out the record of opponents Perry and Hutchison. “We need to elect citizen leaders, not more of the status quo,” she said. As Texas is currently $33 billion in debt, triple of what Perry inherited when he first took office, it would take until 2047 to pay that debt off. At the state and federal level, government must end its “insatiable appetite to spend our children’s money.”

I am embarrased to say that I initally supported her because she was the strongest on what I felt was the most overwhelming issue of all..... Sealing the border from the hoards from the south.

Man am I disappointed that she ended up being a Ron Paul clone.

Does anybody else grimace and roll their eyes when they see "tea party" capitalized, as if it's a real "organization" with "leaders", etc.? I swear the rats are hard at work through their newsrooms (and with a lot of help from misdirected political dupes) to turn the tea party protests of 2009 into the kind of marginal, divisive laughingstock that the "Move On" campaign evolved into.

The real shame is the damage being done to the Tea-Party movement between her, the truthers and the Paulbots in general.

The Paulbots are erroneously claiming that they started the Tea Party movement.

In reality, Rick Santelli started it as a protest on the mortgage bailouts.

The Paulbots are hijacking it and trying to make it a cult.

Well, Ron Paul may have started his own tea party, but TEA PARTY NATION and the TEA PARTIES I started attending were due to Rick Santelli, just like you said, Allegra.

SoCalPol says that PaulBots show up with fliers and that they’re real pushy and rude during Tea Parties in San Diego. I have never run into any and it’s a good thing. I’m not nice when I’m bothered by rude and pushy people.

And that huge crowd of over a million people who showed up in DC last September...I seriously doubt there were many Paulbots in that group. They certianly weren't running that show.

Oh, I'm sure some showed up with their truthy-anti-war stuff, but they were vastly outnumbered by true conservatives. (I wasn't there...watched it on C-SPAN via LiveStation.)

I wasn’t there either, but I didn’t see any of their anti-war signs. I also watched on CSPAN and if Ron Paul addressed the crowd, I missed seeing him.

> She wants legalized drugs.
> She backs gay marriage.

Please provide links. I'd honestly like to know if this is true — I really do. But again, I have to ask: what's Perry's and Hutchison’s stance on these and other issues — hardcore Conservative or softcore RINO?

> “It’s a shame isn’t it, that Republicans continue to ignore
> Hispanics especially here in Texas?’

Before Medina spoke yesterday, Apostle Claver of RagingElephants.org had the podium. I have a lot of respect for Apostle and for the work he does to reach across the isle to Black Democratic voters to vote Conservative. He's on tour for the next 6 weeks to teach grassroot groups in Ohio, Kansas and other states to help grow Conservatism among minority voters.

Apostle had a lot to say, but in particular is that "we cannot continue to compromise on Life and Prosperity". And IMO, that's EXACTLY what a vote for Perry or Hutchison is — more RINO representation for Texas Conservatives from lifelong incumbent RINOs.

Hispanics certainly do not need any further special dispensation, seeing how there's 8.2 million Hispanics in Texas which has a total population of 23 million. However, they do need to be welcomed into the GOP fold, because Hispanics tend to vote Democrat, or not at all. The demographic trends show continued growth of the Hispanic population, even if illegal immigration is stopped. But for the sake of Conservatism, Hispanics need be "shown" that they REALLY are Conservatives, not Liberal Democrats.

Ironically, three of the most Conservative candidates that I can recall in recent history in the Houston area are: 1) Roy Morales for Houston Mayor; 2) Dr. Martin Basaldua for Texas House Dist. 127 and; 3) Debra Medina for Texas Governor. The are ALL Hispanics.

I submit to you that inside of any minority who's been indoctrinated to vote Democrat, is a Conservative screaming to get out! Candidates like Morales, Basaldua and Medina are not only Conservative, but are also “cross-over” candidates that can help bring more Hispanics to the Republican Party.

And as best as I can determine, Medina is NOT another incumbent RINO politician!

> Your spin that she has same experience as Scott Brown is 100 percent incorrect.

Dude, if you're going to proudly wear the “Bloggers for Perry” moniker, at least have the courtesy of not confusing the threads you're trying to spam!

I compared Medina to being like outsider Doug Hoffman, the New York CPA who turned politician. He too is Pro-Life, for a smaller Federal government and fiscal responsibility. Hoffman didn't win last November, but he will win THIS November.

Please get YOUR spin and talking points correct.

A candidacy is a job interview to which Medina arrived unprepared. She showed up and all she did in the beginning was slam the other job candidates and the company for which she was applying.

Then she got up on the interviewer’s desk and shot herself in the feet repeatedly.

When it is all over and her political career is gone the damage to the Tea-Party movement will still bear the scars she and her fellow Paulbot truthers have caused.

A pox on her and all that continue to lie, spin and support her to the detriment of Texas and the Republican Party.

It is a shame she didn’t have the honesty and decency to run as a Libertarian, but neither of those appear to be arrows in her quiver.

I'm not a Paul-bot, Libertarian, Truther, nor do I work for the Medina campaign. But I am Conservative Tea Party member ... and I am open-minded.

This should not be too hard ...

Please sell me on the virtues of voting for EITHER of these two Texas RINOs on Tuesday.

As opposed to Medina they know that the Federal Government did not orchestrate the 9/11 murders and that Police Officers indeed died in the towers.

How about that?

Honesty.

There is so much you could teach most all politicians.

Especially Medina.
