Sarah Palin: Drillgate
Facebook ^ | 02-09-10 | Sarah Palin

Posted on 02/09/2010 6:16:47 PM PST by euram

Many of us appreciated the President mentioning in his State of the Union address that “tough decisions” had to be made regarding offshore drilling. People have had doubts about his seriousness in regards to domestic energy policy because our Department of the Interior dragging its feet on Virginia’s offshore oil and gas leases. Still, we’ve held out hope that America’s voice will be heard on energy.

And now Vince Haley at Big Government reports this shocker:

In April of 2009, during a discussion about offshore exploration in San Francisco, Salazar said that President Obama directed him to “to make sure that we have an open and transparent government” and that “these are not decisions that are going to be made behind closed doors.” Salazar went on to say that President Obama wanted to make sure that DOI was “maximizing the opportunity for the public to give us guidance on what it is that they want to do.”

Yet, more than four months after the comment period ended, the Department of the Interior has failed to make any public announcement about the results, even though sources have told American Solutions for months the comments show a 2-1 advantage in support of offshore drilling.

It took American Solutions almost four months and the power of the Freedom of Information Act to finally uncover indirect confirmation that, out of over 530,000 comments submitted, pro-drilling comments outnumbered anti-drilling comments by a 2-1 margin.

In an email dated October 27, 2009, Liz Birnbaum, director of the Minerals Management Service, informs other Interior officials that a preliminary tabulation of the results of the comment period had not yet gone to Secretary Salazar, adding “[s]o the Secretary can honestly say in response to any questions that he’s [SIC] has not yet seen the analysis of the comments – staff is still working on it. I did, however, confirm to him the 2-1 split that these guys [at American Solutions] are emphasizing.”

When a public employee is on record condoning purposeful deception of the American people, the taxpayer should no longer have to fund his or her job. Secretary Salazar should immediately fire Liz Birnbaum for purposefully deceiving him, and in turn, the American people. It’s not possible for the Secretary to honor pledges of openness, honestly, and transparency in government if his staff is going to deliberately undermine such pledges.

Public opinion polls already measure near 70% support for offshore drilling, so the results from a public comment period that reflect the same public sentiment should not be surprising. But after all this talk of wanting the public’s input, Secretary Salazar and his team must find it a real stumbling block to have to explain all their anti-energy development actions in light of the comment period results to which they previously attached such great importance.

As Haley notes in his article, it’s astonishing that the Obama administration is dragging its feet on offshore drilling at a time when we’re so desperate for economic recovery and jobs. It’s no surprise that an overwhelming majority of Americans support offshore drilling: it will provide millions of good jobs and billions in revenue, and it will make us more secure by reducing our dependence on foreign oil.

Mr. President, we appreciate you asking for our input. We’ve provided it, so thank you for accepting it. With no time to waste, it’s time to listen to the American people – finally – and drill, baby, drill!

"but you will vote for Sarah if she is the nominee, right?"

I'm sure I would. Hell, I voted for McCain. lol

I'd be more enthusiastic in voting for Palin as she is MUCH more in common with my beliefs than McCain is. I just don't think she's the best choice for being president.

Your post is a hysterical screeching non-sequitur. There's no indication that Palin plans to run for President and the presidential election is still 2.5 years away.

Why don't you take a deep breath, turn down the volume to "Freak on a Leash", and address the points she makes now.

"Perhaps, you are not fit to decide who is fit to be President."

I'm certainly fit to decide who is worthy of being president. My state constitution allows me to vote to decide who the electors will be for my state, and I meet the criteria for an eligible voter. Would you dispute that?

Maybe it was unintentional but you are hijacking the thread.

I just finished “Going Rogue” last night.

Have you read the book? Do you know the circumstances involved in her decision to give up the Governorship of Alaska?

"Right now, she’s the best choice for the GOP."

I don't believe she can win the general election. Maybe I'm wrong. If she gets the nomination and wins the election, I'd be delighted if you could come back here to this thread and laugh at me after she wins. I just don't think it can happen.

My up-most apologies. I had a rant to get out, and this thread just happened to be the place where it landed.

I promise to never hijack another thread..... (this month) lol

I hope Sarah Palin doesn’t run for, and win the GOP nomination.
_ _ _ _ _

If she runs, it will be because of popular demand. She will not be anointed by the party machinery. They are frightened to death of her. She values the common person over the political class. Heresy!

If anyone else is interested in the job or in the possibility of unseating the Maoist regime, they might speak up and oppose it. I don’t hear them. I hear a a lot of echoing of Palin’s and Limbaugh’s comments along with backhanded criticism for words she used. Great party leaders we have! Well, at least one.

Palin is telling Obama “No”. It may be the first time in his life he has heard the word. Maybe it requires a Mom to tell a little boy “No”. I hope he minds but I think he’s a willful child and will disobey. Not a good decision.

I usually oppose women occupying positions of power.

As Thomas Jefferson wrote, “Were our State a pure democracy...there would yet be excluded from their deliberations...women, who, to prevent depravation of morals and ambiguity of issue, should not mix promiscuously in the public meetings of men.”

However, Governor Palin is the only candidate since Ronaldus Magnus who actually *should* be president.

You underestimate her, misjudge her, overlook in her the seeds of the same greatness we saw in Golda Meir and Margaret Thatcher.

Rare? Oh, my, yes...but never to be wasted.

If we fail to make her our next president, we shall have forgotten the words of a former president, Dwight David Eisenhower: “Americans, indeed all free men, remember that in the final choice a soldier’s pack is not so heavy a burden as a prisoner’s chains.” (First Inaugural Address, January 20, 1951)

That’s okay, though. I am optimistic that people like you will come around after they’ve heard enough from her to wash the liberal cant out of their ears. One must remember, the more vicious their slander, the more their target is to be recommended.

After all, errare humanum est, in errore perservare stultum.

The troubling thing about Palin’s critics are that they will employ the exact same rhetoric and double standards towards any conservative candidate.

Anyone that is the GOP nominee better have a good idea how to combat the media.

Two problems with your statement.

First of all, you assume that Obummer will be the democrat choice on the ballet in 2012. I don't think he will be the one, no pun intended. Most likely, HRH Hillery Xclintonista will be the progressive choice.

Point two, you underestimate the American people and the power inherent in the Tea Party movement.

I'm quite certain Sarah Palin will run, and I am just as certain the American people will elect her. Possibly by the greatest margin in the history of this fine country of ours.

And you may ask "why are you so certain". Well, it is quite simple to figure out. Everything the one is doing is the wrong thing to start the economy, the arrogance of this entire administration is right out there for all who have pulled their heads out to see.

By the time the election cycle gets here, this country will be a shambles, unemployment, rampant crime, food riots, not to mention the coming muzzie fun fest. These are just the tip of the iceberg that is directly in the little marxists path.

If you watch carefully not only are the party faithful democrats starting to throw barry under the bus, the MSM is letting a few comments slip here and there, Mr. Hussein is not delivering on the campaign promises. Everyone except the jockstrap sniffing Chrissey Matthews is wondering when the wheels will come off this bus.

No, there will not be another term for the pretenda from Kenya.
