The End of Snide Remarks Against Cold Fusion

PHYSICS ARTICLES DISCUSSION FORUM Fusion and the LHC (Large Hadron Collider)

Gravitonics article found HERE.

Located near Geneva, close to the border between Switzerland and France, the Large Hadron Collider is the largest particle accelerator in the world at a cost of about 9 billion dollars.

It is strange how we love to put all of our eggs in one basket. At the same time 9 billion was spent on the LHC, Dr Bussard could not find a few million for his fusion reactor. Don't get me wrong, the Physicists working at CERN are some of the best in the world and the reason I'm mentioning them is the analogy between the LHC and the TOKAMAK approach to fusion.

We've been promised fusion since the 50' and there is very little to show in terms of practical achievements. But we made the decision that the TOKAMAK is the way to go. How can we tell if the TOKAMAK path is the right one before it works? And what is a few millions more if it means following two avenues to fusion?

Dr Bussard talks at Google, Novemeber 9-th, 2006, see video. This presentation can be understood by anyone that has completed the Physics sequence in an engineering program or the equivalent.

Sorry, Kevmo. Wrong again. Try this one:

In 1636 W. Gascoigne invented the micrometer.

Do you think he used it to measure the sizes of small objects, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

(Hint: you might have a practical use for this invention yourself.)

Sorry, Kevmo. That makes you 0 for 6. Try this one. This one should be easy:

In 1642 Blaise Pascal invented an adding machine.

Do you think he used it to do sums, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

(If you need a hint, let me know. I’ll provide you one.)

Nope, Kevmo. Failed again. That’s 0 for 7 for you.

Maybe I’m making these questions too hard for you. Let me try a slightly different phrasing on the next one:

In 1643 Evangelista Torricelli invented the barometer.

What do you think his goal was in inventing the barometer, to measure air pressure or to get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

Sorry, Kevmo. Wrong again. That makes you 0 for 8.

But here’s your chance. This next one practically answers itself.

In 1650 Otto von Guericke invented an air pump.

Do you think he used it to pump air, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

C’mon. Put that big brain of yours to work. You don’t want to keep batting zero, do you?

Well, you were wrong again, Kevmo, which makes you 0 for 9, but on that last answer I got the feeling you were starting to think about it, starting to struggle with the concepts here, starting to free yourself from the rut you’ve found yourself in of calling other people names instead of looking at the whole subject of cold fusion in a more practical light.

And for that reason, I’m going to give you yet another chance. Try this one:

In 1656 Christian Huygens invented a pendulum clock.

Do you think he used it to tell time, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

Wow, Kevmo, I think we’re getting somewhere. Even though your last response was, sadly, incorrect, which gives you a current score of, sadly, 0 for 10, I definitely detect some hesitation on your part on the whole subject of people’s rights to differing opinions, rights that are independent of their willingness to go on to some online gambling site and make some bet that will be governed by some unpredictable standard.

I’m sure that you, like most of us here in FR, believe that “man made Global Warming” is a crock of shite but I’m also sure, like the rest of us, you would never bet against the ability of the Global Warming activists to get “peer reviewed” papers “proving” that Global Warming is man-made. Am I right?

And who knows what’s in the minds of the judges of “intrade” regarding what is or isn’t a “peer-reviewed” paper. Right? Certainly you wouldn’t trust your money to them on the subject of Global Warming. And you would be absolutely correct if you felt that way (which I suspect you do) and you would not think that just because you don’t want to “bet against” Global Warming that doesn’t mean you aren’t allowed to hold the opinion (correct in my view) that Global Warming is a crock of shite.

So I do think you’re getting somewhere here.

I do think you’re starting to see that reticence in online gambling does not negate the value of held opinions.

I believe in you, Kevmo. I believe that you are fundamentally a rational person.

And in the spirit of that belief, I’m going to ask you another question, to give you the chance to get out of the batting-zero basement and put something on the scoreboard:

In 1663 James Gregory invented the first reflecting telescope.

Do you think he used it to observe distant objects, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

To: Kevmo

You’re welcome, Kevmo, and I think you’re starting to get my point, that “peer-reviewed papers” often aren’t worth the paper they’re printed on, Global Warming being merely the most obvious example of that.

However, despite the fact that understanding is starting to dawn inside that brain of yours — like the sun rising pink and fresh over a desert landscape — you’re still batting dead zero on the questions.

So let’s try to up your average a bit with this one:

In 1668 Isaac Newton invented a better reflecting telescope.

Do you think he used it to observe distant objects, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?

Again, you’re welcome, Kevmo. And it seems you finally agree with me, that our expectations of cold fusion must be real-world expectations, not phony-world expectations of internet gambling sites or even the so-called “peer review” process, which in the case of Global Warming we can all agree is rigged against anything resembling the truth.

We need to see some actual practical applications. Right?

Like this one:

In 1670 Dom Pérignon invented Champagne..

Do you think he used it to toast his success, or do you think he dared people to make bets with him that he could get 3 peer-reviewed papers to confirm his invention?
