Yeah. But in this case it would be the ABSENCE of a paper trail that would be news.

Hmmmm, I wonder if reporting that such-and-such a doctor or hospital does NOT have a record of a particular patient would violate HIPPA rules?...

[You do not need a birth certificate to get a passport. ]

I could not get a passport in my Texas town, of 70 thousand, without one.

I happily went to their office with my nice original Hospital birth certificate, little footprints, gold seal and all, and they laughed.

Told me I’d have to sent to Pennsylvania for an ‘official’ BC to get my passport.

Oh bother! Read the FRICKIN' State Department web site!

YOU DO NOT NEED A BIRTH CERTIFICATE TO GET A PASSPORT!

It's right there. Really. I'm not making it up.

Any idiot can check the facts and call me on it if I'm wrong.

I guess someone needs to tell all the local passport offices so we won’t have to go through the bother and expense of sending away for them.

Along the same train of thought, reporting that such and such a person NEVER even registered at a certain hospital may not involve violation.

Back in 1961, I do believe women stayed in hospital for much longer periods than today after a birth delivery.

Another thought, follow the money. Was she under 18 and used her mom’s insurance coverage to pay for the delivery? Or was it a county deal? Insurance company rules/laws may apply differently.

IF you were capable of actually, you know, like, actually finding the State Department’s web site, you would know that you still have go though just as much bother to get a “Statement of No Record” and that this document is a requirement for getting a passport without a Birth Certificate.

You might even learn something, though I’m beginning to think about considering the slight possibility that maybe you’ve stopped learning.

For instance, if you were late for a dinner date, and you date called up all the local hospital to inquire whether you (your name) was in the system from a car wreck, the nursing supervisor is allowed to tell you yes or no, even a bit more.

Likewise, if a reporter called up the hospitals asking for summary of a person's status regarding a "newsworthy" case then release of general info is also allowed.

And I’m beginning to realize that you aren’t a very nice person. Name calling and rude statements are against the rules here.

Then pretty please with sugar on it stop calling me a liar?

Especially when it is so easy for even the most casual of readers to check my facts?

Then show me one single statement where I called you a liar. You can’t!

I calmly posted my experience to you and then you went into the ‘frickin idiot’ bit with me. Go back and show me where I called you a liar, pretty please!

I have no need to look up the state department when my local office has different rules, and you insinuated I was too dumb to do that.

If you have any brains you will get your head on straight and stop your childish comments and attacks on potlatch -

Nobody on FR cares if you are for pro-drug laws - but that you are a Libertarian - who does not use drugs

A passport may require a State Dept. form signed and notarized by close blood relations - mine did - they sure would not accept a hospital birth certficate from an American (they do accept hospital birth certificates from those born in foreign countries - how charming) and and slight deviation or mistake on a state Dept. of Health birth certificate will require those State Dept. forms I mentioned -

Guys, I don’t think the media is going to pick up this story. For one thing, it’s getting too complicated. Secondly, the lefties seem to come up with almost-plausible answers. Has anyone been countering what’s on the Strata-sphere site?

http://strata-sphere.com/blog/index.php/archives/category/uncategorized/2008-elections/obama-birth-certificate-nonsense

Third, in order for this thing to move forward, the republican party would need to grow a pair, and they won’t. The republicans need their version of George Soros.

Also,

Of course the MSM won’t run with this, but that does not mean we can’t force it down their throat by continuing to research and get all of the ducks in order. AJstrata is full of crap.

Then show me one single statement where I called you a liar. You can’t!

Technically you never called me a liar, you just said that what I was saying isn't true.

Technically I never called you an idiot, or said that you personally were friggin'.

Since, like the Vatican inquisition squad, you refuse to look though the telescope, you show the same level of supreme confidence they had in there being no moons about Jupiter.

Guess what? They were wrong twice. Once for not looking, and once because their mundane experience misled them. There are moons orbiting Jupiter. And you really don't need a birth certificate to get a passport. Your bad experience with your local group of GS-1 clerks to the contrary.

Now be a good boy and go here

And see the following for yourself. Please don't trust that I'm not making it all up out of whole cloth, as you seem to think I'm trying to deceive you. Check it out for yourself. Better yet, don't trust my link, do your own search.

=====================================================

You may prove U.S. Citizenship with any one of the following:

NOTE: A certified birth certificate has a registrar's raised, embossed, impressed or multicolored seal, registrar’s signature, and the date the certificate was filed with the registrar's office, which must be within 1 year of your birth.  Please note that some short (abstract) versions of birth certificates may not be acceptable for passport purposes.

A Delayed Birth Certificate filed more than one year after your birth may be acceptable if it:

If you do NOT have a previous U.S. passport or a certified birth certificate, you will need:

  1. Letter of No Record

Issued by the State with your name, date of birth, which years were searched for a birth record and that there is no birth certificate on file for you.

  1. AND as many of the following as possible:

NOTES: These documents must be early public records showing the date and place of birth, preferably created within the first five years of your life. You may also submit an Affidavit of Birth, form DS-10, from an older blood relative, i.e., a parent, aunt, uncle, sibling, who has personal knowledge of your birth. It must be notarized or have the seal and signature of the acceptance agent.

======================================================

I'm sorry it's so long, I felt it was appropriate to give you as much context as you could handle. I added the red so you could find the relevant bit.

I do not now, nor have I ever, done drugs.

And if you happen to look at my profile page again, please note that it says I left the Libertarian Party.

Also the reason this kerflufle bothers me as much as it does is because normally I have tremendous respect for potlach.

If he really were an idiot, or someone I didn’t like, it wouldn’t hurt for him to practically call me a liar to my face. I’d just ignore him.

BTW, thanks for mentioning that you were able to get your passport without providing an “acceptable” birth certificate.

Yeah. Look at the trouble we have explaining it to each other.

OTOH by keeping it on the table we increase the chances that someone will be joggled into remembering or finding a simple easily understandable and unassailable proof of his ineligibility for the highest office in the land.

For example, if a genuine Kenyan or Canadian CoLB shows up, it's game over.
