Too peaceful is the protest in Tibet?
NYT ^ | Liangliang

Posted on 05/18/2008 4:11:08 AM PDT by nutspea

I do not know if this article suit to be posted here, but I just want to speak something.

Today when I went to NYT and an review attracted my attention, title "fed up with peace" (http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/18/opinion/18kristof.html). This article frightens me. There it covered a monk who claimed that he( Dalai Lama) has been too peaceful over the China, and they should take some actions more violent, especially when he is gone. It depicts that this impatience seems widespread among young Tibetans , and remarks that the Dalai Lama should return Tibet as a spiritual leader and own more rights. Most important, it also observes, that China government should stop sending Han migrants to all Tibetan areas, to preserve their Tibetan character.

After finished reading I think there is a need to leave comments. To prevent wasting the time, I just want to ask the author one question, that is: You call for more rights to Tibet, but did you ever ask yourself such a question that to whom is this freedom belong? To judge the affairs in Tibet one must consult the history instead of vainly murmuring about the present. Don't you think it's weird that in the process of "free Tibet" movement only several monks and oversea persons stand up, instead of masses of Tibetans? After informed yourself with the past history of serfs in Tibet when ruled by these Lamas, could you tell me to whom is this freedom would be given if the Tibet is once again ruled by monks?

About the last remark of migrants, it makes me a little confused that as I can remember American always support culture diversity and communication. One thought in your head and another in mine, but if we make changes there go more than two. The same, the collision of culture will result more thoughts and help both the Han people and Tibetans, isn't it? Does it benifit the Tibetans more by isolating them?

do you know how the tribes including Cheyennes,Arapahosa and Sioux vanished?

Bub, this is a standard ChiCom troll comeback line, and quite frankly, you do not know what you are talking about with regard to the U.S. Indians.

For your information, the Cheyennes, Arapahos, and the Sioux did NOT vanish, but are still around with their own protected reservations, complete with special government privileges and services and self government as sovereign Nations within the U.S.

You trolls really ought to do better research if you're going to try and compare Tibet to the American Indian Wars of the 19th century.

Look buddy I keep telling you to stop the baloney. I don't know where you get your info but I think you ought to leave our Native American Indians alone. YOU are insulting some posters on here who are Indian. YOU don't know your history & frankly are full of propaganda from your govt or what you were taught. Shouldn't you be helping in the aftermath of the earthquake & not posting on here? Don't you think that would be more important or is this your job?

I wonder if badguy2200 bothered to do a bit of basic research:

Northern Cheyenne

Northern Arapaho

Cheyenne-Arapaho website

One of the many Sioux nation websites

Not bad internet representation for people who, according to our ChiCom pal, vanished over a century ago.

I think he needs to stop with the Indians . Two of my children have some Lakota Indian from their father’s side. I think he ought to back off on that aboriginal Indian thing. I don’t think he should call our Native American Indians anything but that. However thats just IMHO. I think this person ought to stop this typing & do something useful for the victims.

Ture. he knows squat about the Native Americans (or First Americans, if one prefers). My ancestry is European and Cherokee and I am not pleased with his ham-fisted arguments regarding First Americans.

When will the ChiComs erect statues to the Tibetans and their leaders? When will they open museums honoring Tibetan culture and traditions? When will they afford autonomy to Tibet? When will they pass laws protecting Tibetan heritage, culture, and traditions? These things and more have been done in the US for the American Indians.

Sadly I don't see it happening. Not unless something major changes in China.

So what is different? You Chinese showed no mercy when you invaded Tibet, killed 1.5 million and bombed 6,000 monasteries full of unarmed monks, nuns and the women and children from the countryside who sought refuge there

your data of “killed 1.5 million and bombed 6,000 “ is completely nonsense.

in 1950,there were altoghter only 1 million Tibetan in Tibetan auto region now, with a few million in other provinces.

So it’s the Chinese people who want to keep Tibet in chains and the government just does it to keep you happy. You did say if you were unhappy with the communist government you would have overthrown it a long time ago.

I think you are so lucky not to read Chinese...if you could, you would be flooded by fenqings.

thanks for your information....

but in fact,I has known those information for long times, because I read some diraries and blogs written by chiense in USA..

I did raised the propaganda of CCTV or Chicom’s hitrory bookd deliberately, just let you pay attetion to the propgaganda of CNN or your history books.

I got to realize the truth of Native Indian, just because I seach and read the news, books and other materials from both CNN , CCTV and other netral materials. otherwise, I would be cheated by CCTV for ever.

but how about you? You still stick to those news from CNN r Dalai,or Freerepublic? how can you get the truth just from one side of a case.

if you really want the truth,it is necessory to listen to the voice from both Chinese and the pro-independence tibetan.

After listening to the voice from both sides, analysis them with you brain, then what you get will be closer to the truth.

If you just listen to the fans of Tibet-independence like TigersEye and ignore the voice from Chinese,I am afraid that you will get more and more away from the truth...

don’t take it granted that the weak alway is right.

I do use Chinese sources as well as Tibetan sources as well as American and British intelligence sources for my information. The problem with you is that you simply lie when it suits you. Every post you make creates a bad impression that the Chinese people are as dishonest and untrustworthy as the CCP.

Tibet

The Government of Tibet in Exile quotes an issue of People's Daily published in 1959 to claim that the Tibetan population has dropped significantly since 1959. According to the article, figures from the National Bureau of Statistics of the People's Republic of China show that the autonomous region of Tibet was populated by 1,273,969 persons. In the Tibetan sectors of Kham, 3,381,064 Tibetans were counted. In Qinghai and other Tibetan sectors that are incorporated in Gansu, 1,675,534 Tibetans were counted. According to the total of these three numbers, the Tibetan population attained 6,330,567 in 1959. [66]

By dishonestly not counting Khams and Qinghai, regions almost solely inhabited by Tibetans prior to the Chinese invasion of the '50s, badguy2200 can tell the lie that there were only 1 million Tibetans in the '50s. But we can clearly see that there were at least 6 million. These people would not identify themselves as anything but Tibetan. Check the sources at my link and everyone can see that these figures actually came from the Chinese government. That should make it clear to all that badguy2200 is not misinforming us because he has been lied to by the CCP. This information is available to him but he lies anyway because his intention is to intentionally misinform the rest of the world. That is CCP policy.

I have kindly asked you not to be rude many times & to read the rules here. Since you aren't a recent sign up then you must by now be able to understand that when we speak of another FReeper we add their name to the post. Either you just ignore rules or you think you are above the common practices we here on FR use. WE have no reason to believe a thing you say. Why would we as its very common for China to pay people to come in here & post nonsense. If you want to be taken seriously I really suggest you back off a bit & maybe get the hang of FR. I am not trying to be rude to you either. This is not China buddy.

I had been in Tibet for several days, which is a large place for the Tibetans to prosper on and we have no intentions of killing anyway. I think that you may need to read more before posting words of “genocidal”.
You're more fluent than the other shills lately. What's interesting is that you guys all use the same script. Let me guess, you're a "student", not interested in politics who just got interested in defending China on the internet?
