McCain cuts deal with delegates to hand WV victory to Huckabee

Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee enjoys the first victory on Super Tuesday for the Republicans as he takes all 18 delegates in the state of West Virginia, winning 52% of the vote, although rumors abound regarding the McCain campaign's possible instruction to their delegates to switch to his side.

Mitt Romney finished second with 47% of the vote, followed by McCain at 1%.

Rumors are circulating that the McCain campaign instructed their delegates to defect over to Mike Huckabee's side as to avoid a Romney victory. Nationally, McCain is significantly ahead of Huckabee and can afford giving the state's 18 delegates to Huckabee, but certainly not to Romney, who was originally in the lead when polling began in West Virginia by a wide margin and trails McCain nationally by only 17 delegates.

I wonder if news of this will spread to enough voters before they vote to have a difference. I doubt this tactic by McCain will play well with a lot of voters, and it does give increasing credibility to Romney's claim that a vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain.

It would be amusing if word of this spreads quickly enough to sway some close races and costs McCain more that the 18 delegates he wins.

If we are not giving one dime to the RNC now, just wait until they call us begging for McCain.

conservatives will NOT ACCEPT McCain, and if he’s successfully shoved down our throats (as seems to be the case) we will NOT vote for him. I’m completely serious, and I’m not the only one here...

I can guarantee that you have plenty of company, me included.

Oh, if a CONSERVATIVE had done what McCain/Huckabee had done, it would be “dirty politics.”

But, it doesn’t matter...the damage is done. Romney needed the momentum.

Having no principles is now smart? The ends justifying the means is now smart? Taking people’s votes and voting them for someone the voters didn’t vote for is now to be admired? Shame on you.

Thank-you for cutting it to the core facts.

Let’s see.. McCain sees he’s not going win. The Huckster has no hope to win ANYTHING, basically because he’s a moron, but remains in the race to draw votes from Romney and help McCain. Gee, could it be that McCain has promised him a role in his administration, or, even if he hasn’t, that the Huckster expects a prid pro quo for his weasel-like actions? Nah. “It’s just politics” and why should we get upset about it?

Because it’s underhanded and dishonest, THAT’S why.

You don't know how much we loathe YOUR candidate,do you?

The Republican Party is dying. Regan held it together. Bigotry rendered it asunder.

Guess Byrd was involved in this kind of trash.

Shame on McCain and Huckabee.

What a way to treat the people of America.

Who came up with these stupid "caucuses"? In Vegas casinos you had Obama managers threatening to cut shifts of underlings if they went for Hillary. No one should ever know which candidate you support, unless you want them to. These caucuses are un-American.

One man, one vote, secret ballot.

Yes..4 states with their delegates cut in half due to their violation of RNC rules..

Why dont you answer the question Annie.. WHY hasn’t Team Romney been able to close the deal in the states they NEEDED in order to win this nomination.

Romney spent over 10 million in Iowa alone to get beat by a candidate (Huckabee) who spent only about 500,000 in the state...

Romney spent nearly 10 million in New Hampshire..to get beat by a candidate (McCain) who nearly had to resort to taking federal matching funds to keep his campaign afloat...

Combined with more failures in South Carolina, Florida, and now West Virginia..explain to me WHY Romney can’t seem to get the job done...if he is supposedly the “best” candidate..why then all the major defeats?

“What this really means is all the campaigns are thoroughly in the hands of professional strategists. no more grass roots.”

WE, no longer elect our leaders.”

And we’re so well manipulated that most of us don’t even know it.

I’m jealous over those purple fingers in Iraq. Their election was probably more legitimate than this one.

What was Huck promised so that he would stay in the race? I had no respect for Huck before this and now, he’s only prostituting himself.

Huck will become ambassador to the Middle East so he can do some missionary work.
