To have a conservative candidate as our nominee, we need to rally behind a single candidate and need to do so fast. Mike Huckabee is an articulate defender of conservative values, likeable and electable.
When the choice of Presidential Candidates became clear, I wrote that both Rep. Duncan Hunter and Gov. Mike Huckabee are both true conservatives and effective communicators of conservative philosophy. They have common sense, yet compassionate, philosophies and would both make excellent presidents. While Rep. Hunter should be receiving far more publicity than he is, the fact is that, through no fault of his own, he's not. The media machine doesn't give much coverage to leading conservative voices and generally doesn't give much exposure to second tier candidates to begin with. A lot that says about a media that simply ratifies the frontrunner of the day, but it also means that Rep. Hunter is unlikely to win and efforts must be concentrated elsewhere to ensure that we nominate a conservative. Gov. Huckabee has shown himself to be a resiliant campaigner and is positioning himself for shot at the nomination. Those who do not want a nominee with a big government philosophy would do best by rallying behind him. The Governor would make a fine President. He has shown tremendous strength, coming across very well in every debate so far and is the best candidate who has a shot at the nomination. For these reasons I'm now endorsing Mike Huckabee. While it is my hope that he won't be a vice presidential running mate to a big government republican, he would make a fine president and an excellent candidate if he's on top of the ticket.
Simply put, we need a candidate who does not believe in enlarging a government that has already grown far too big. That candidate needs to be an articulate representative of conservative philosophy and needs the skills and organization to realistically be able to capture the nomination. Gov. Huckabee is one such candidate and has positioned himself as the best conservative candidate in the race.
There is no way I would support a candidate that is the food police, the cigarette police and many other areas that the government does not belong. Stay out of our lives and perhaps I would support him.
Well...heck.
Pro-amnesty does it for me.
I don’t need no steekin’ other ‘scuses.
He is a federalist and believes it is up to the various states.
Something’s got to be done to stop activist courts from usurping the power of the inhabitants of these states. Hamilton would have had these judges removed and given them free one way trips to Canada. Letting what happened in MA and IA happen isn’t Federalism, it’s looking the other way at Hedonism and furthers economic socialism (a reason socialists promote immorality). Judicial rule by fiat usurps republican democracy, both the Federalist (which I prefer, as the way Hamilton supported it was very limited and just enough to avert chaos) and the Republican/Democratic (Jeffersonian) versions of it.
It's going to take a miracle for any of the other primary candidates to catch up with him in the polls because of this. LOL!
No, we do not. We need to have a nice primary where they fight it out by promoting themselves and their ideas without attacking each other.
Which, by the way, you did very well. Good job!
It's refreshing to see a reference to federalism for it is rapidly becoming an extinct reference in politics these day's.
Thompson came in second and he also did not show up
Well, Mike Huckabee has an entertaining way with words, two soulful big browns, and a quick wit, but Mike Huckabee is no conservative!
He is soft on the open border problem, panders to Hispanics, praises sanctuary cities, and he refused to sign to No Amnesty bill, calling it silly.
He is big on national health care and high taxes. And I am not so sure about his stand on the rights of the unborn.
There is only one, count them one, consistent conservative Republican candidate running for Commander in Chief, who has all the credentials required to take this country off the suicide course it is now on, and that man is Rep. Duncan Hunter.
His disingenuous way of handling the immigration and border security issue makes him unacceptable to me--I have a candidate anyway, his name is Duncan Hunter--winner of yesterday's Texas Straw Poll...
Thanks!
I love Hunter but see it as imperative that we rally behind a conservative candidate who can win instead of letting this go to the Rockefeller wing. If you look at Huckabee’s stand of taxes, he only increased based on a federal reduction in spending that all states picked up, other states raised taxes in different ways. He’s for a fair tax and that’s the best way it could be done. He’s definitely a social conservative, very pro-life and for the defense of marriage.
If you love Hunter, and feel that it is imperative that we rally behind a conservative candidate, Duncan Hunter, IMO, is your man. He is the ONLY candidate with a full quiver of the qualifications so desperately needed in today’s world. He is a “get it done” kind of guy, with a solid conservative record. We can’t afford to settle for less than the best this time around, and in my book, Duncan Hunter is the very best.
Every time FDT is asked a question, he dodges it by saying it is up to the states. I’ve never heard him answer a direct question in a direct manner yet. Sorry, he might be a heck of a fellow, but he’s not presidential material.
Read a few of the following links excerpted from my profile page and then consider thowing your support behind a real conservative for president, Duncan Hunter. - OB1
Reasons why Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is a RINO and no longer fit for public office:
From TheBattman - 6/7/7:
Long and short on Huckabee from his record:
Positives:
1. Has been very strong on gun rights (CCW, protecting gun makers from stupid lawsuits).
2. Pro-Marriage: Marraige protection Act was his baby along with covenant marriage.
3. Pro-life
Negatives:
1. Supported taxes (Old-fashioned Tax-and-Spend politician)- engineered a 3% state income tax surcharge (a tax on the tax you paid in income tax) that was supposedly to make up for budget shortfalls - and then kept in in place a year longer than was necessary (and promised).
Raised fuel taxes
Encouraged the use of sales tax as an easy means of revenue boosting.
Opposed all efforts to reduce the sales tax on groceries and prescription drugs, even in years with a budget surplus. Heck, our new Democrat (liberal at that) Governor, under public pressure, agreed to a reduction in grocery sales tax...
2. ArKidsFirst - One of the larges social spending programs in Arkansas history was his baby. I dont have a problem with helping low income folks get medical care, but I know many folks on it that could afford regular coverage - but why when big gubmint will give it free?
3. Big Government - Huckabee, between his socialist healthcare moves, his heavy hand regarding tobacco use, his mandatory search lunchboxes of school kids health initiative, and massive expansion of most social programs...
4. Poor record of political appointments - just one example - Sheffield Nelson on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission - who has single-handedly tarnished the organization and really pissed off sportsmen in the state with his obstructionist and blatantly anti-regular Joe initiatives.
5. Illegal Immigration - Huckabee actually called anyone against illegal immigration (those who wanted to prevent free tuition to illlegals, free social benefits to illegals, etc.) non-Christian.
6. Party Affiliation - Huckabee has chosen in the last couple of elections to not be supportive of Republican candidates, including Lt. Governor, when they were a solid conservative choice, preferring more moderate or even liberal candidates.
Im sure there is plenty more (maybe both pro and con) that others can add...

BWAHAHAHA! Thanks, I needed a good laugh this afternoon. Mr. National Smoking Ban is a conservative?
Under the 10th Amendment, most things are supposed to be up to the states. Duh. I guess you LIKE activist federal government.
Horsecrap. Huckabee was all-for amnesty until just recently. Fred has never been for a blanket shamnesty - his two amnesty votes were for immigrants from repressive regimes, including Nicaraguans.
Duncan Hunter is that man in ‘08!
I’m very worried that at this point as to who will be the nominee. Hunter, who I did support, hasn’t shown any organizational ability. Part of this is because of being shut out by the media, but still, I can’t see him winning.
Huckabee is at least a good social conservative. The “checking kids lunch boxes” scares me most but he is the only social conservative who represents a challenge to the big four (McCain can come back). He has a lot of positives but with Hunter effectively out he seems to be the only conservative (though not conservative on all issues) with a fighting chance. If Hunter suddenly surges, something that just doesn’t look possible, I’ll be ecstatic. ‘til then we’ve got to go with someone who has at least an outside shot.
