Bush Sign Ripping Staged Posted by Josh Rhoderick 10:35 AM, Politics & Government
The story, according to Phil Parlock, goes like this:
A West Virginia man said yesterday that Democrats stole his family's Bush-Cheney campaign signs at an event featuring Democratic vice presidential candidate Sen. John Edwards.
"They just pounced on us," said Phil Parlock, who took his 11-year-old son, Alex, and 3-year-old daughter, Sophia, to the Democratic rally at Tri-State Airport in Huntington, W.Va.
"She was crying; they were pushing and shoving her," said Mr. Parlock, a Huntington real estate agent. "She was scared."
But there's more to it than that. Is it coincidental that this show of Democratic brutality happened in a swing state?
I'm no journalist, but through a trusted friend in West Virginia (whom we'll call Daisy), I've learned that Phil Parlock, in an attempt to aid Bush in the state, had the incident staged. As far as I know, Parlock's family knew nothing of it. It's also unclear whether or not the Bush campaign or any of its allied 527 groups were involved. It's possible that Parlock was acting of his own accord.
Daisy, who also lives in Huntington, knows Phil Parlock and his family and she made it clear that they were "very nice people." I asked her why she thought Parlock would do such a thing, she mentioned that Parlock is "very very Christian," "incredibly anti-gay," and a strong Bush supporter.
She also mentioned that Parlock, a real estate agent in West Virginia, has attempted to run for a seat on the Cabel County Board of Education on four separate occasions. She didn't elaborate. I'm guessing that she was trying to say that Parlock was hoping to get media attention as a Pro-Bush guy so his fifth and final run would be successful.
Apparently, Parlock planned to blame the attack on a local branch of the International Union of Painters and Allied Trades (IUPAT). IUPAT had staged anti-war demonstrations outside of West Virginia Bush rallies in which Parlock and his family had been in attendance, and it was those demonstrations that inspired Parlock to stage an attack upon his daughter.
Daisy said, "I'm pretty sure he had two men at the airport, and both were from the Mission." She's referring to the Huntington City Mission, a local Christian charity group of which Parlock is a member.
Daisy refused to tell me how she knew this and she also refused to tell me how she knew Parlock (or how well). So it's possible that she's speaking on nothing but speculation.
It wouldn't surprise me if Parlock staged the attack on his own, but a few of the details don't quite add up, so I'm not ready to say that I believe Daisy (which will undoubtedly piss her off).
UPDATE:
A reader tipped me off to this. I'd say it's starting to add up now. Sorry I didn't believe you Daisy!
troll
The Union has apologized.
LOL Rangers fan with a sense of humor here.
LOL. So we have someone called "daisy" saying the dad's a christian and what-not and that just flat-out proves he staged it?
Look, it's obvious the dad likes to protest at the opponent's rallies. So what, and good for him. But he obviously couldn't have known how big this would get so why would he cook up this elaborate hoax where a union guy rips a piece of his kid's sign out of her hand? If he hired "goons" to stage something, surely it would have been more elaborate than that.
Staged, huh?
So, this Christian homophobe repeatedly takes his daughter out "trolling" for assaults. With a news photographer in tow.
I suppose the union guy was in on it too, and all those around him who stood by and watched?
Wow.
I think CBS news would say that even if the incident was staged it was still accurate.

Little girl's brother-
-- snip --
What all you Freepers (I learned a new word today!) can do for my family is to show the same kind of support for our president, maybe attend Kerry/Edwards rallies yourself... showing the same kind of respect, perserverence, and steadfast resolve that we have tried to show. Please bring good credit upon yourselves and our president.
BTW I will give Sophia big hug tomorrow for all of you. She is a cutie. Thank you.
hmm, "Thank you" is what President Bush said to Sophia when she gave him a hug at the Bush rally last Friday.

little girl's big brother-
Dame Autour, yes, i am Philip, II
BTW we got the plate number of the guy who threw the torn sign pieces at us and called him in to the littering hotline. Although my dad was distraught with those taking and ripping up signs, he continued to endure and show restraint- we weren't there to cause trouble, rather, we were there show the dedication of Bush supporters.

Little girl's brother-
Yes, Sophia is ok, but a little confused because "the people changed and got mean" as soon as she held up her sign. We were at the visit in the hopes of winning the people who are unsure and reassuring those who support President Bush. Among those supporters, much to my surprise and delight, were one of the drivers for the Edwards motorcade (who honked and gave a thumbs up after dropping off Edwards) and some police from both WV and Ohio.

Little girl's big brother, again-
Thank you for sending this to Drudge Report, and for all of the support. I was at the Edwards visit to the tri-state airport in Kenova, WV (near Huntington). I was not up front with my dad and siblings, but at the entrance to the airport, silently greeting airport traffic, as well as Sen. Edwards with a homemade Bush sign and U.S. and West Virginia flags.

To: everybody.
I am an older brother of the little girl. I have read many of your posts, and am dying to answer your questions you have had. For starters, someone did their homework, and, yes, you have the right Phil Parlock. Father of 10, participated in Junior Achievement, NAACP, 4 time candidate for Board of Education, 2 children in the National Guard, of which I am one. Yes, the little boy is the little girl's and my brother, upset with the IUPAT guy.
I highly doubt it will amount to anything except another kooky DU conspiracy.
The moment the union head saw the picture I'd bet money he said "find out who this guy is". I don't think he'd issue an apology and promise action against someone if he didn't have an idea who they are.
There's actually a little more than that in the photo:
1) the little girl is holding the torn up sign
2) the union guy on the left is holding part (or parts) of the sign in his hand
I do give credit to the union president for the apology. To me, that was the least he could do.
Oh, that's good. They assault a little girl, and then try to blame it on the Republicans.
The union would not have issued that apology without first determining if the accusation was legitimate. I'm sure that they looked at the picture and realized that it was in fact one of their members who attacked the little girl. There is no conspiracy here.
Me also. Let's face it, you have to have one to hang with them for this long.
DU BS.
How does that explain an AP photographer catching the incident on film? (Thereby precluding the AP from running their own increasingly suspect story?)
I'm afraid the existance of photographic evidence tells the tale and completely refutes this insane theory.
The evidence is good enough for CBS, let's just pass it on as gospel truth.
He does seem to go a courting confrontation. He should maybe leave the three-year-old home when he does that.
