Alabama high school band director is TASERED by cops in front of screaming students and arrested for refusing to stop the music after football game ended

The director of an Alabama high school's band was tasered by police in front of horrified students and arrested after he allegedly refused to stop playing after a football game ended.

Johnny Mims, leader of the band at Minor High School in Adamsville, was charged with disorderly conduct, harassment and resisting arrest for encouraging the students to keep playing after the game at the Jackson-Olin High School had concluded on Thursday.

The band had continued to play as police were trying to clear out the stadium following a win by the Minors.

Both the teams band kept playing after the game was over, but the losing team quickly left after police asked, according to police.

Shocking footage shows the moment police tasered Mims as teens scream in the background. The department said in a statement: 'During the officers' interaction with Minor’s band director, the decision was made to place him in custody.

'BPD officers attempted to take the band director into custody for Disorderly Conduct when a physical altercation ensued between the band director, Birmingham City Schools personnel, and BDP officers.

Mims was taken to the hospital, as is protocol after a taser is used, before being booked in a Birmingham jail.

He has since been released on bail, as reported by The Washington Post.

Following backlash, Jefferson County School Superintendent Walter Gonsoulin said on Friday he's gathering facts and urged 'everyone not to jump to conclusions.'

Mims, who has worked at the high school since 2018, appears to be a beloved member of the community, and many have come out to support him and denounce the incident.

Shootings at high school football games, courtesy of the usual suspects, are becoming more common.

This town is entering a kind of downward spiral that often follows municipalities reaching majority black status. Crime skyrockets, and the law-abiding of all races who can afford it, move out.

Birmingham City Schools personnel

If I was among the concerned parents, those personnel would be experiencing the effective end of a rubber hose.

Birmingham clearly has a problem or 2...or 3...or 4...or...

> I assume they were playing and marching on the field ... why would anyone even care. <

That was my first thought as well. The police do not own that stadium. A school district does (presumably). If the proper school official asked the band to leave and they didn’t, then it’s actually trespass and the cops can take action.

But the cops can’t clear the field just because they don’t like crowds. As others have noted, more info is needed here.

As a side note, I’ve seen way too many instances of cops escalating a situation simply because they can. So regretfully, I can no longer automatically give the police the benefit of the doubt.

Because bad apples reflect poorly upon all, but all are not bad. That’s why.

“Now, the half-time air was sweet perfume
While the sergeants played a marching tune
We all got up to dance
Oh, but we never got the chance
‘Cause the players tried to take the field
The marching band refused to yield
Do you recall what was revealed
The day the music died?”

They are just practicing for when they get to herd legacy US citizens into the “FEMA camps.”

I think there were too many fights and crime happening after games so they wanted to clear the field as soon as the game was over and the band kept playing. Amish will be Amish.

Hmmmmm Stopping a show. No one got tasered but;
Don't remember the band off hand but we, promoter, were doing a show in a 15,000 seat arena and the headliner went through 1 encore. That's all they were supposed to do. They launched into another song immediately for a second. Soon as they got done with that they started a 3rd. At that point the promoter said enough and had the house electricians cut power to the stage, sound and lights less than a minute into the 3rd number. House lights came up and that was that. Show over.
Thing was, it was union hall and if we where late on the load out we went into double time. That was not going to happen.

The police wanted everyone to start leaving that area...

Why, are these cops landlords, or just decide when/where they want people to come and go? Probably on overtime and decided to start rule-making.

Would have been great if the crowd just started stomping them.
