I’m happy to report that I was in constant correspondence with Ann regarding her chapters on Darwinism — indeed, I take all responsibility for any errors in those chapters. :-)

"You posted that it exists. Show put up or shut up."

It doesn't matter if one posts a reply without a recipient. That pesky little number that shows up at the bottom of each reply tells all anyway even if someone goes out of his/her way to disguise it by purposely deleting the TO: entry. Nobody is getting fooled.

Except that most people who accept evolution in the USA also accept Christ as their Savior.

I don't suppose you have references to back that up?

You have a right to your belief, of course...But your belief is not consistent with the belief of the founding fathers' who believed that we have "inalienable rights" because the God of the Bible gave/endowed them to us (which is the foundation of conservatism).

You really need to read the Declaration of Independence in context. What where they trying to do was justify a break with their king. In order to do that, they had to devise a justification for going against the theretofore accepted theory of the "divine right of kings," which held, based on the Bible, that kings are appointed by God to rule over men. Remember, George III's official title was "George the Third, by the Grace of God, of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland King, Defender of the Faith." Therefore, any disloyalty to the king is a disloyalty to God. (Which is a tactic as old as dirt; so long as there are God-folk about, you'll have a dictator/king/emperor/bully/whatever, saying to obey them or you'll burn in hell.)

So, in order not to look like they were going against God's "will", they had to justify their seizing the power to govern themselves, (which was done according to Enlightenment thinking, not traditional Christian principles.) How can they do that when the Bible says to obey the king? By arguing that God really made the people in charge, and that the right to govern did not come from God to the king, but from the people, through their consent. (Which also had the effect of saying that God had no role in governing men; only men did.)

Thus, they assumed without proof (that is, posited axioms) that 1) God exists, 2) that inalienable rights exist, and 3) that that he endowed man with these inalienable rights. Of course, many of them (probably most) did not actually BELIEVE this (see, e.g., the continued existence of slavery), but it made for a nice, tidy argument as to why they were being disloyal to George, the bloody German, God's chosen one on Earth (or at least that portion of it inhabited by people who didn't speak some barbarous tongue.)

Therefore, there is nothing in the Declaration that suggests that only a Christian believer in the 21st century is true to the founder's beliefs, as those beliefs were 18th century spin of the highest order. (Which is not to disparage them, because it made for dynamite political philosophy, philosophy which began to come into full bloom with the presidency of the Great Abraham Lincoln.)

It was a justification and a belief too.

Therefore, there is nothing in the Declaration...

I never stated that there was.

There was nothing in what you posted that negated what I stated to jennyp.

Are you kidding this is a blast ..... Ichneumon gets so agitated about everything ,,, especially if you post anything that may disagree with him.

Wrong again. You're so stuck on that "it must be the disagreement" notion, that you fail to read or understand anything I actually say. And if you find that "a blast", then it appears you're just trolling -- posting things in order to get a kick out of the kind of response you trigger, instead of in order to have an actual conversation where ideas are exchanged.

Except that most people who accept evolution in the USA also accept Christ as their Savior.

I don't think many C's would disagree on this point (other than the MOST part).

We merely stress the fact that the latter is VASTLY more important than the former.

Well whats a girl to do ...

I suppose the option of discussing things like an adult, where you actually pay attention to what I say for a change, and respond accordingly instead of playing coy games, is out of the question? You're not fooling anyone.

Open your window or your door and look around. This world didn't happen by chance.

"Looking around" does not demonstrate your claim. Stating "this world didn't happen by chance" is merely a restatement of your original premise, not an argument in favor of it.

Do let us know when you contact these folks to let them know they're wrong about evolution and God being incompatible, won't you?

Consider it done!!!

Thank you for agreeing that the correct position is that evolution and God are compatible.

So? You think what you think and I'll think what I think, and I think that simply looking around at the wonders of nature proves the existence of God. It is preposterous to think that all this came about by chance.

Of course it is preposterous to think it happened by chance. I've seen some statistics on the odds and they are overwhelming. Yet some find it easier to believe in long odds and random chance that to believe in the existence of God. Makes you wonder about their logic.

Yawn. Argument from personal incredulity. Don't expect to prove anything to anyone but yourself by that.

You think what you think and I'll think what I think, and I think that simply looking around at the wonders of nature proves the existence of God.

To which "God", out of the thousands of deity constructs -- often mutually exclusive -- worshipped and acknowledged throughout human history do you refer, and how does "looking around at the wonders of nature" prove the existence of that specific deity, with all of its specific attributes, and no other?

There was nothing in what you posted that negated what I stated to jennyp.

Except for the part where you've posited that the basis of conservative thought is the source of human rights, rather than the fact of their existence.

ANTI-CHRIST!

What does the BIBLE say??   (These are all the verses I could find that mentions it)

1 John 2:18-26
 18.  Dear children, this is the last hour; and as you have heard that the antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come. This is how we know it is the last hour.
 19.  They went out from us, but they did not really belong to us. For if they had belonged to us, they would have remained with us; but their going showed that none of them belonged to us.
 20.  But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.
 21.  I do not write to you because you do not know the truth, but because you do know it and because no lie comes from the truth.
 22.  Who is the liar? It is the man who denies that Jesus is the Christ. Such a man is the antichrist--he denies the Father and the Son.
 23.  No one who denies the Son has the Father; whoever acknowledges the Son has the Father also.
 24.  See that what you have heard from the beginning remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.
 25.  And this is what he promised us--even eternal life.
 26.  I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.

1 John 4:1-3
  1.  Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
  2.  This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God,
  3.  but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God. This is the spirit of the antichrist, which you have heard is coming and even now is already in the world.

2 John 1:7-10
  7.  Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist.
  8.  Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully.
  9.  Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
 10.  If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him.

Are there MAJOR groups that say that JESUS is NOT the CHRIST??

Avoid them!!!

Now the BEAST is different than the anti-christ
666!

Revelation 13:11-18
 11.  Then I saw another beast, coming out of the earth. He had two horns like a lamb, but he spoke like a dragon.
 12.  He exercised all the authority of the first beast on his behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed.
 13.  And he performed great and miraculous signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to earth in full view of men.
 14.  Because of the signs he was given power to do on behalf of the first beast, he deceived the inhabitants of the earth. He ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived.
 15.  He was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that it could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed.
 16.  He also forced everyone, small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on his right hand or on his forehead,
 17.  so that no one could buy or sell unless he had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of his name.
 18.  This calls for wisdom. If anyone has insight, let him calculate the number of the beast, for it is man's number. His number is 666.
