This is an interesting story, because it raises an interesting question that some people involved with law enforcement might be able to answer - if you are going to raid a house, or a building, but it's not exactly clear which is the right building to raid, what is the usual procedure?

"A man and a woman — both in their 80s — were injured as TACT team members secured the house"

Totally uncalled for hurting those people like that. At 4am I can't believe either one of them, especially the woman, would need to be hurt. I don't care how much adrenaline is there, that is ridiculous.

The police should be sued to keep this from happening again. The couple could have been killed - and they could still die. This is what happens in the WOD... the police get carte blanche to break the law because they think the means justify the end. How would you like to be confronted with a SWAT team on your property? Sorry isn't big enough to measure the harm done here.

Those criminals need to be arrested and charged with multiple felonies.

Dumb. I'm for the cops most of the time but this one not only freaked out the old folks but pooched the bust as well. Whatever police work went into identifying the bad guys went out the window because somebody decided to flip a coin.

--another example why most SWAT teams should be disbanded and the members issued a .38 Special with two speedloaders, shod in a pair of brogans with soles about an inch thick and required to walk a beat twice a shift--

Beshears said the woman received a dislocated shoulder and the man received bruised ribs.

Clear that this is more JBT action. Anybody you see, take 'em down as hard as you possibly can, one on each arm just to let 'em know who's boss.

I'll bet it's just about impossible to fall down flat on your face and get a "dislocated shoulder" or "bruised ribs". Most of the time when I hear of that kind of injury it's a car accident or falling off a roof.

However, when we arrived at the designated address, there were two houses on the lot. We hit the larger of the two houses.

The idea of calling HQ for clarification never crossed this dimwit's puny mind?

Apparently, you raid the larger house or building. Perfectly logical, eh?

From the article:

He said he believes his officers acted correctly and followed procedures when they entered the first home. "Obviously, a mistake was made and it was regrettable," he said. "But, I stand by my officers. I think they acted properly."

Wouldn't it be a shame if a bunch of armed thugs broke into this JBTs house, and sent him to the hospital?

Why are SWAT teams crashing into peoples homes?

When I lived in L.A., maybe 15 years ago, there was a raid early in the morning in which the L.A. Sheriffs Department raided the wrong home in the mountains above Malibu. They thought the guy was growing marijuana, which he was not. The suspected weed was observed by the Sheriff's helicopter and amazingly no ground inspection was ever made before the raid. The homeowner thinking somebody was breaking into his house grabbed his gun and was shot to death by the cops. Come to find out, although much of the homeowners land was in L.A. County the home was located in Ventura County. The Ventura County authorities were never notified of the raid beforehand. As I recall the police got away with a slap on the wrist. No action was ever taken against them.

I presume the USPS manages to get mail to the correct house.

One of these days, they're going to raid the wrong wrong house and have the entire column destroyed by a homeowner who's better equipped and trained than they are.

The sooner, the better.

Cops have become arrogant housebreakers, IMO. I was shocked this morning (don't know why, though) by a calendar from our local sheriff's department that's on the wall in our employee break room. It shows the 15 members of the sheriff's department (it's a small county) in a 7 x 9 picture all outfitted with their SWAT equipment. The really weird thing, though, is they're all wearing the ski mask type things that hide the face except for the eyes and nose. You can't tell who they are. They look like a bunch of Palestinians, for heaven's sake. Something is radically wrong with a department that puts out a calendar like that.

Many questions to be answered here. Did anyone even bother to watch the informant go to the residence to purchase the narcotics? Was someone using the old peoples residence to sell out of in the day and then leaving?

Was the "other" house on the property a shed or garage which had been converted into a living quarters? This is my suspicion because of the way the "correct address" issue was worded in the article.

We can all form our own judgements based on the reported circumstances but it sounds like the person in charge of the investigation did not have all of the facts before they acted or allowed the raid to take place.

Think of all of the people in your circle of friends or coworkers. The "hard chargers" need someone around to step up and say "Wait, lets look at all the angles here. Its a pretty hard thing and unpopular role to have sometimes, but it is a very important role. It keeps mistakes like this from happening. Maybe others will learn from this terrible occurrence.

Signed,
The guy that tells people to wait...

I can just see the SWAT/NARC thugs yanking the 80 year olds out of their bed and slamming them on the ground.

Such heroes.
