Many questions to be answered here. Did anyone even bother to watch the informant go to the residence to purchase the narcotics? Was someone using the old peoples residence to sell out of in the day and then leaving?
Was the "other" house on the property a shed or garage which had been converted into a living quarters? This is my suspicion because of the way the "correct address" issue was worded in the article.
We can all form our own judgements based on the reported circumstances but it sounds like the person in charge of the investigation did not have all of the facts before they acted or allowed the raid to take place.
Think of all of the people in your circle of friends or coworkers. The "hard chargers" need someone around to step up and say "Wait,lets look at all the angles here. Its a pretty hard thing and unpopular role to have sometimes, but it is a very important role. It keeps mistakes like this from happening. Maybe others will learn from this terrible occurrence.

I would sincerely HOPE the informant was asked if there was anything ambiguous about that address, such as multiple buildings.
