What do people after their eighth, ninth, or tenth election is stolen in front of their faces? And in this recent election, in the most brazenly, nakedly, fraudulent way possible? Probably the same thing California's voters do, after getting the same result over and over again in the solid blue state. Axios found a poll indicating what people in Venezuela would do:More than 40% of Venezuelans polled in the past few months said they'd consider emigrating if Maduro stayed in power.Nevertheless, advocates say hope is pushing people to keep fighting. What they're saying: "Obviously, if [President Nicolás] Maduro stays in power,...

Sometimes you have to go with your gut instincts, and I wish I'd stuck with mine yesterday. Wednesday morning it was my happy duty to report on the assassination of Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran, Iran, the night before. "My first thought was that a Mossad assassination team had snuck in, done some dirty work that needed doing, and then snuck back out," is what my gut assured me had happened. But then reports came in that Haniyeh had been killed in a precision airstrike. But no. "Never trust first reports." I'm going to write that on a...

Vice President Harris has reversed her 2019 campaign position on fracking, signaling a move to the center on the issue. The rightward shift comes as she tries to court swing voters in states like Pennsylvania. “Fracking is a central part, a foundational part, a significant portion of Pennsylvania’s economy. The economic argument is going to be extremely significant nationally, and in the States, it’s the top issue on voters’ minds,” said Jon Reinish, a national Democratic strategist. Others disagreed, saying they don’t believe her stance on fracking will have major implications for the race. Her path to victory in key...

Japan is seeking the extradition of a U.S.-Canadian anti-whaling activist, who has been held in custody in Greenland since July 21, Danish and Japanese authorities said on Thursday. Green Day went beyond the lyrics of its songs to send a message earlier this week. The legendary punk rockers who’s music is the soundtrack to many children of the '90s played a concert in Washington, D.C. Monday night at Nationals Park. Normally the home of MLB’s Washington Nationals, it became the setting of a political statement from the group’s lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. Green Day’s longtime front man held up a rubber Halloween mask of former president and second-term hopeful Donald Trump at the show to reveal the word “idiot” written across the forehead. The moment was captured...

Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has canceled a trip to the ritzy New York beach enclave of the Hamptons, as he is being considered to be Vice President Kamala Harris’ running mate, according to a person with direct knowledge of the matter. Shapiro was supposed to go to at least two events in the Hamptons, including a meet and greet with wealthy donors at the home of public relations executive Mike Kempner. “The Governor’s trip was planned several weeks ago and included several fundraisers for his own campaign committee,” Shapiro spokesman Manuel Bonder confirmed to NBC News. “His schedule has changed...

Republicans are ripping the Olympics for allowing a 'biological male' to pummel an Italian female athlete, calling the competition 'dangerous' and 'immoral.' The outrage stems from a 46-second Olympic boxing match between Italian female boxer Angela Carini and her Algerian opponent Imane Khelif, who's considered to be 'biologically male.' Khelif, who had been banned from a major boxing contest before the Olympics due to issues regarding her gender, savagely rocked Carini with two haymakers early in the fight. These devastating blows prompted Carini to yell 'This is unjust' before she fell to the canvas and wept over her Olympic dreams...

The Associated Press. NICOSIA, Cyprus — Arab nations condemned Israel's raids on suspected guerrilla positions in Lebanon and accused the Jewish state Monday of jeopardizing the Middle East peace process...Iran, which vows to annihilate Israel, called on the international community to stop the attacks. Iran does not support the U.S.-sponsored peace negotiations among Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and the Palestinians. Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s campaign looks like it is in trouble with Vice President Harris as the likely Democratic nominee. Kennedy is scrambling to keep the public’s attention — and struggling to keep his moribund presidential bid alive. The independent candidate’s polling, prominent family and unpredictability have kept him on the watchlists of both parties. But Harris’s ascent has coincided with cash woes and ballot-access concerns for the third-party insurgent. In another bad sign, Kennedy’s fiercest critics are starting to ignore him, suggesting they view him as less of a threat. “He is a dysfunctional candidate,” said Michael Ceraso, a...

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro (D), who previously served as that state's Attorney General, is reportedly on Kamala Harris's shortlist for her running mate. Shapiro would seem to bring some significant things to the table: executive experience, popularity in a key swing state, and support from unions. But progressive groups are nevertheless warning Harris away from Shapiro. One letter signed by nearly 50 progressive leaders pointed to Shapiro’s “shortcomings as a national candidate” and urged the vice president to consider Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear (D) and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) instead. “With the compressed timeline ahead of us to defeat...

President Joe Biden on Thursday hailed the complex prisoner-swap deal with Russia that freed unjustly imprisoned Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich, former U.S. Marine Paul Whelan, and two others in exchange for prisoners including Russian assassin Vadim Krasikov as a prodigious “feat of diplomacy.” Biden said all four of the recovered prisoners were “convicted in show trials” by Russia “for absolutely no legitimate reason whatsoever.” In addition to Gershkovich and Whelan, the freed detainees included Russian American journalist Alsu Kurmasheva and Vladimir Kara-Muza, a U.S. green-card holder and Washington Post contributor who was sentenced to 25 years in prison...

Pat Young, the chief of detectives for Beaver County, slammed Acting Secret Service Director Ronald Rowe’s comments in a Senate hearing over the lack of communication on the day of former President Donald Trump’s rally. The rally where Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump, killed Corey Comperatore, and injured James Copenhaver and David Dutch. Every time local law enforcement releases new information, it shows no communication from the Secret Service (USSS), and the agency quickly denies it and pushes back. instance, Pennsylvania SWAT said the USSS never held a briefing with them or others before the rally. Taunting Donald Trump as racist and sexist is getting a tad shopworn. Needing some fresh material, Morning Joe broke out a new attack line on Trump today, calling him "a badly damaged, deeply damaged man."In an opening segment devoted to trashing Trump over his performance at the National Association of Black Journalists forum yesterday, Mike Barnicle was the first to float the new line, saying: "What we saw yesterday is just another exhibit of a badly damaged man on stage. A bit later, Charlie Sykes echoed Barnicle, twice: "this is a deeply damaged man who, who is really sort of,...

The Paris Olympics are engulfed in controversy after Algerian boxer Imane Khelif caused Italy’s Angela Carini to quit just 46 seconds into their preliminary match on Thursday, but Khelif’s next opponent is undaunted. Anna Luca Hamori, the first Hungarian Olympic boxer, faces Khelif in the quarterfinals Saturday and expressed that she has no fear. Khelif’s Olympics entry has become a hot story after she was disqualified at the 2023 world championships “after her elevated levels of testosterone failed to meet the eligibility criteria,” according to the International Olympics Committee (IOC) database. “I’m not scared,” Hamori told reporters. “I don’t care...

A Pennsylvania appeals court today ruled that images of completed absentee and mail-in ballots are public records under state election law, after a voter sought such records from the 2020 election. The Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania says a lower court erred in holding that images of absentee and mail-in ballots were shielded from public disclosure under Section 308 of the Election Code, which says certain election materials are available to the public “except the contents of ballot boxes and voting machines and records of assisted voters …” In its opinion, the court said the Common Pleas court failed to recognize...
