Almost forgotten in the uproar over the brutal ‘‘whuppin’ ’’ that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson laid on his 4-year-old son is just how great a runner Peterson was. I say ‘‘was’’ because it’s not certain Peterson, 29, will play in the NFL again. He is out indefinitely, with pay, as he awaits trial on charges of reckless or negligent injury toward his son. The trial tentatively is set for Dec. 1, too late for him to return and play this season. If he is found guilty, he could receive a prison sentence of two years and a $10,000 fine....

Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested Monday night for allegedly shoplifting from a Dallas-area mall, Naheed Rajwani of the Dallas Morning News reports. Randle, 22, was a fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2013 out of Oklahoma State. In six games this season, he has 16 carries for 113 yards, including a season-high 52 yards during Sunday's win against the Seattle Seahawks. Police said Randle allegedly shoplifted from a Dillard's at Stonebriar Mall.

Frisco police say Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested Monday evening for allegedly shoplifting at the Dillard’s at Stonebriar Mall. Police were called to the Dillard’s at 8:17 p.m. Monday, said Frisco police spokesman Chad LaPrelle. The store’s loss prevention employees had detained Randle, who was later charged with theft, a Class B misdemeanor.
