  • Not a Bad Guess to say Adrian Peterson is Finished

Almost forgotten in the uproar over the brutal ‘‘whuppin’ ’’ that Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson laid on his 4-year-old son is just how great a runner Peterson was. I say ‘‘was’’ because it’s not certain Peterson, 29, will play in the NFL again. He is out indefinitely, with pay, as he awaits trial on charges of reckless or negligent injury toward his son. The trial tentatively is set for Dec. 1, too late for him to return and play this season. If he is found guilty, he could receive a prison sentence of two years and a $10,000 fine....
  • Take our poll: Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame?

No matter what you think of Pete Rose, you can't deny what an electric moment it was on September 11th, 1985, when Rose became baseball's all-time major league hit leader -- a record that still stands today. And yet, the debate over whether his cardinal sin -- gambling on baseball -- should keep him out of the Hall of Fame for life remains as fierce as ever, as correspondent Lee Cowan explains in a profile of Rose, to be aired on CBS' "Sunday Morning" October 19... Take our poll! Do you feel Pete Rose should be inducted into the National...

SungWoo Lee — the biggest Royals fan in South Korea — returning for World Series By David Brown 14 hours ago Big League Stew KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals were a big deal in South Korea, at least for one fan living there, long before they made the World Series. SungWoo Lee said he's been a Royals fan for 20 years, which any other baseball fan could tell you were lean times for the club until their recent playoff push. Lee saw his first Royals games in person at Kauffman Stadium this season after getting vacation time...
  • Seahawks trade WR Harvin after he likely wore out his welcome

The only thing speedier than Percy Harvin in uniform is how fast the wide receiver wore out his welcome in Seattle. Roughly 19 months after his ballyhooed arrival, the Seahawks had enough. As first reported by FOX Sports NFL Insider Jay Glazer, Harvin was traded Friday afternoon to the New York Jets for a conditional draft choice. Few — if any — players in league history were ditched by a franchise so quickly after such a large investment was made. The Seahawks sent multiple picks to Minnesota — including a first-rounder — for Harvin in March 2013 and then signed...
  • Low Tide: Has Alabama lost its air of invincibility in the SEC West?

Ole Miss safety Cody Prewitt offered some foreshadowing before his then-No. 11 Rebels toppled No. 3 Alabama on Oct. 4. “We understand that we haven't played a team that's going to be as good as Bama,” Prewitt told FoxSports.com the week prior to the game. “But we don't really think Bama is as good as they have been. And we're better than we have been.” Prewitt might have been on to something with the Crimson Tide. Ole Miss beat Alabama 23-17, the Rebels' first win over the Tide in 10 tries. The next week Bama squeaked out a 14-13 win...

A cross-country runner in North Dakota carried an injured competitor across the finish line during a recent race, a show of compassion that reflects the deeper meaning of sports. The situation happened Saturday at the Eastern Dakota Conference’s Cross County Championship. Fargo South runner Danielle LeNoue was participating, nearing the finish, when she felt a pop in her knee. She crumpled to the ground in pain, an injury to her patella tendon.

In two separate Commonwealth Court rulings this week, Judge Anne Covey denied an NCAA and Penn State motion for a protective order and ordered the NCAA to make President Mark Emmert available to give a deposition. The NCAA and the university had asked for the order to protect confidentiality of “certain discovery materials” in the lawsuit brought by state Sen. Jake Corman, R-Benner Township, and state Treasurer Rob McCord that tries to ensure the $60 million in fine money levied against Penn State by the NCAA remains in Pennsylvania. Covey declined that in an order dated Wednesday. “Defendants have demonstrated...

The College Football Czar: Week 8 Week seven in review: One of these weeks, the College Football Czar will wise up and start picking the Mississippi schools to win. In truth, he remains skeptical of Ole Miss, but there’s no question at this point that Mississippi State deserves its new #1 ranking. The Czar did not doubt the quality of the MSU team, but had instead overrated Auburn, which set out to prove that its near-upset at Kansas State was no fluke. For the week, the Czar only went 11-8, although he would protest the result of the Baylor-TCU game,...

Randle, 22, was a fifth-round pick by the Cowboys in 2013 out of Oklahoma State. In six games this season, he has 16 carries for 113 yards, including a season-high 52 yards during Sunday's win against the Seattle Seahawks. Police said Randle allegedly shoplifted from a Dillard's at Stonebriar Mall.

Frisco police say Dallas Cowboys running back Joseph Randle was arrested Monday evening for allegedly shoplifting at the Dillard’s at Stonebriar Mall. Police were called to the Dillard’s at 8:17 p.m. Monday, said Frisco police spokesman Chad LaPrelle. The store’s loss prevention employees had detained Randle, who was later charged with theft, a Class B misdemeanor. Police said Randle attempted to steal a $39.50-pack of two black Polo underwear and a tester bottle of Gucci Guilty Black cologne valued at $84. He was released from Frisco City Jail early Tuesday after posting a $350 bail, police said. Randle has a...

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — The 911 call could not have sounded more urgent: A man was beating a woman holding a baby outside their apartment as she tried to leave. “You just need to get someone out here right away because it is really bad,” the caller said, adding that the man was “punching” the mother and “grabbing the little baby around the arm.” By the time the police arrived shortly after 3 a.m. one day last January, the couple were back inside. The 19-year-old woman acknowledged that she and her boyfriend had argued, and that he had not wanted her...
