Been thinking about prayer, as I have both been blessed with prayers from the FR community and have sent some up to the individuals within the community. A thread posted today affirmed my desire to talk about this, and see what other people think. (http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-religion/2876199/posts) To me, there are four specific types of prayer. Praying as we are instructed: The Lord's prayer. That is fixed and we are told that is how to pray. Request your daily bread, both physical and spiritual and resign yourself to God's will. The Serenity prayer, which I am a huge fan of, has basically...

This is my first prayer request on FR. My brother has had MS for 20 years. He has been on permanent disability for 15. Two weeks ago he had surgery to reattach a pump that is connected to his spine. Yesterday they discovered he has an infection in his spinal cord from the first surgery. They are going to perform another surgery today. He is truly my hero, a very decent family man and devote Christian. He never complains. Instead of saying Why me? he says Why not me? It had to happen to someone. I can handle it. His...

Chuck’s condition took a decided turn yesterday, and the doctors advised Patty and the family to gather by his bedside.

My 95 year old mother and I are into the 19th day of dealing with a difficult case of the flu. Although we had flu shots as we do every year, the variety of flu we contracted must have not been protected by the vaccination. The fevers have been gone for over a week, but the cough just is not lifting. It's much less but the coughing just won't come to an end. My mother progressed to the beginning of pneumonia but that seems to be gone after treatment with antibiotics. My mother has been to the doctor 3 times,...

Two weeks ago after an argument, our 18 year old son left home and moved in with his 17 year old girlfriend and her divorced mother. He has been the model son, always kind and polite to everyone. Once he started dating her, about two years ago, his attitude towards our family began to slowly change. He started losing his long time friends, breaking his curfew and lying about his whereabouts. He had never mistreated us before this, now he is verbally abusive towards his mom and sisters and will not speak to me.

USA --(Ammoland.com)- BIRMINGHAM, Ala. —“Doctors managed to do what the government could not—temporarily silence me,” Sipsey Street Irregulars blogger Mike Vanderboegh told Gun Rights Examiner by phone this morning from the intensive care unit at Trinity Medical Center. The War on Guns: Notes from the Resistance blog reported yesterday that Vanderboegh, the first citizen journalist to tie in the connection between Fast and Furious “walked” guns and the death of a U.S. Border Patrol agent, and a continual force in breaking new information about the ongoing story, was out of surgery, where a large gastro-intestinal stromal tumor was removed. His...

Rick Santorum has canceled his Sunday morning campaign appearances because his young daughter has been admitted to the hospital in Philadelphia, a spokesman for Santorum said. "Rick and his wife Karen are admitting their daughter Bella to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia this evening. The campaign will cancel Rick's upcoming Sunday morning Florida campaign schedule. However, Rick intends to return to Florida and resume the campaign schedule as soon as is possible," Santorum communications director Hogan Gidley said in an email. Gidley said nothing more should be read into Santorum's scaled-back schedule, explaining: "No one is getting out." Santorum has spoken...

May I recommend reparations between now through Tuesday agreeing all together that we lend some small but daily sacrifice to our Lord, for our intentions, and to humble ourselves and to pray, and fast or abstain, or offer some small repair for ourselves, for our CHURCHES, our country and for Newt? Would we express sorrow for the many ways we let our Lord down by our own sins, our faults and flaws and by so doing we neglect our Lord and the kingdom of God on earth? This would just mean to go without that single extra cup of coffee,...

Hey, friends. I have a 7-year-old adopted daughter who is medically fragile with a host of health problems. She developed massive bleeding in her gastrointestinal tract earlier today. She's undergone multiple transfusions so far and is in surgery right now to find the source of the bleeding. Jasmine has always been a fighter. And I know that no matter what the outcome is, she has always been safe and secure in the hands of God. Would you all just lift our little Jasmine up in your prayers tonight? I simply ask you to pray that God's perfect will be done-...

Found out tonight that Mom is going into for a pacemaker implant tomorrow. She was recovering from having her knees rebuilt with upgrades for the replacements that were put in 12 years ago when the heart monitor picked up irregularities. She's 81 and sweet as can be. Please say a prayer that all goes well and she has a quick recovery.

Please pray for my father. He suffered a massive stroke, in his sleep, on December 1st. He has been breathing on his own but unconscious since then. He has an advanced directive concerning heroic measures. It doesn't look promising right now. Mom passed six years ago. He has 10 living children and a truckload of grandchildren to go with 1 great-grand child. He turned 83 on November 25th. Thank you.

Third Edition of the Roman Missal - Credit: Mazur Rome, Italy, Nov 26, 2011 / 07:24 pm (CNA/EWTN News).- As English-speaking Catholic parishes begin using the new translation of the Mass on the first Sunday of Advent, leading members of the hierarchy are predicting great gains for the Church.“I have a feeling that this will be a great moment for deepening people’s liturgical piety and liturgical spirituality,” said Cardinal Raymond Burke, a member of the Vatican’s Congregation for Divine Worship, in comments to CNA.“The prayers are much more beautiful and they carry with them a staying power,” observed Cardinal...

Okay, prayer warriors, we have another child to pray for. Kaytlinn is the granddaughter of my co-worker's friend. She is in ICU at University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. Kaytlinn has been having seizures for the past week or so and the docs have been stymied. They've been running tests (MRI, CT, spinal fluid) all along, and yesterday afternoon they discovered what looks to be an infected abscess in her brain. Her white cell count has doubled since yesterday morning. I don't know anything about the next steps, but Mom and Grandma are both scared to death. Grandma isn't particularly...
