  • Prayer Request for Shimmer1

    03/14/2015 10:22:07 AM PDT · by Tired of Taxes · 287 replies
Please pray for freeper Shimmer1 as she continues to undergo treatments. Here is the message I received from her last night: I’m very weak tonight. I just got up from another nap. Chemo this week (wednesday) made me so weak, I’m using a wheelchair when I go to hyperbaric treatment. I cry at the drop of a hat. Now even sitting isn’t helping much. Usually when I sit for a while, or lie down, I recover. Now just movement exhausts me. The movement of walking six feet and lying down is enough to make me moan with exhaustion for probably...
  • The Reality of Ferguson (Vanity)

    03/12/2015 8:32:04 PM PDT · by ferg flute · 50 replies
My wife and I have been living in Ferguson, MO for over 20 years. We live close enough to the Ferguson Police Station to hear the protestors that have been making their presence known over the past few months. We know many of the police officers, public officials, and private citizens who are movers and shakers in the community. We are close friends to many black and white residents in the city. We have watched the media reporting of the event and are appalled at the overall lack of journalistic ethics, blatant bias and agitative propaganda that is passing as...

President Obama did not issue a formal statement in reaction to the shooting of two police officers in Ferguson, Missouri last night. But he did take time to tweet. “Violence against police is unacceptable. Our prayers are with the officers in MO,” he wrote on Twitter, signing the message with a personalized “bo.” The two officers were shot outside the police station after the police chief resigned following a report released by Attorney General Eric Holder that exposed racial prejudice within the department.

Mrs. STC is having a "revision" or possible total replacement to a 15-yr-old hip replacement today. The hip had started popping out recently resulting in 2 trips to the ER to get it back in, so the time had come. Mrs. STC has 3 rare bleeding disorders and almost expired during the original hip replacement, so she and her surgeon have put this operation off as long as possible. Mrs. STC is a retired RN and does a shift 2 hours a day, 5 days a week feeding Alzheimer's patients at the local nursing home, so when I left her...
  • ISIS Executes Pigeon and Bird Breeders in Diyala, Iraq

    NBC News ^ | January 17, 2015 | BY F. BRINLEY BRUTON
Raising doves and pigeons is a deadly pursuit in ISIS-controlled Iraq. The popular hobby is in the sights of extremist Islamist fighters, who this week rounded up 15 boys and young men in the eastern province of Diyala for pursuing a pastime now deemed un-Islamic. Three have already been executed. The recent crackdown on bird breeders stems from ISIS' need for new fighters to battle the Iraqi and Syrian governments, as well as residents' growing desperation, according to the security official. Suspicion of bird-breeders stems from the fact they tend to feed their animals at the same time devout Muslims...

“Remember, not every being that occupies the unseen world, the spiritual world, is a good guy, is a good spirit.” Mr. Fisher said interfaith gatherings — specifically those that join Christians with Muslims — should be regarded with alarm, Raw Story reported. “No Christian, in space over which he has authority, should ever willingly allow another spiritual leader to invite the presence of demons into his sanctuary,” he said, Raw Story reported. “This is for the simple reason that if they are invited, they will come. Thus any clergyman, whether an evangelical pastor or the pope himself, compromises the spiritual...

The Supreme Court has upheld the right of local officials to open town council meetings with prayer, ruling that this does not violate the Constitution even if the prayers routinely stress Christianity. The court said in a 5-4 decision Monday that the content of the prayers is not critical as long as officials make a good-faith effort at inclusion.

Yesterday’s culture-war-food-fight post seems to have achieved the desired effect. Let’s double down.We haven’t covered it (I think) but there’s a case pending before SCOTUS right now that will decide the future of this subject. Like many legislatures (including Congress), a town in upstate New York begins every meeting of the city council with a prayer. It used to be that those prayers were overwhelmingly Christian, replete with invocations of Jesus. After a few locals complained, the town decided to keep the daily blessing but to start rotating in ministers from other faiths too to deliver it. Question for the...

A small, coastal town in central California has settled a lawsuit regarding prayer at City Council meetings, ultimately agreeing to no longer hold any form of prayer, whether sectarian or non-sectarian, ahead of the local government meetings. City officials say they decided to settle the lawsuit to avoid further legal costs paid by taxpayer money. Pismo Beach city officials announced their settlement earlier this week, nearly six months after the Freedom From Religion Foundation [FFRF] and the local chapter of Atheists United San Luis Obispo filed a lawsuit against the city, arguing that it had violated the U.S. Constitution's separation...

An atheist organization has sent a letter of complaint to a city council in Michigan over the local government's usage of prayer at council meetings. The Madison, Wis.-based Freedom From Religion Foundation has threatened legal action against the Saginaw City Council. In a letter sent to Saginaw City Manager Tim Morales, FFRF staff attorney Rebecca S. Markert wrote that Saginaw "should drop these prayers altogether." "Government prayers exclude a significant portion of Americans from the democratic process, are of dubious legality, and are a repudiation of our secular history," wrote Markert. Today my 91 year old Grandma fell. My Mom and Aunt went to her house as she was able to get to the phone (they'll probably get her a Life Alert bracelet now even though she has been vocal about not wanting one). She said it was her thigh that hurt, and she had no hip pain. However, she couldn't put weight on it. They called a life squad, and she was taken to the ER. The doctor surprised everyone when they said she had broken her hip. That's one thing you don't want on an elderly person. The doctor...
