A Florida pitbull freaked out on its family, hospitalizing two of them, when they attempted to put a Christmas sweater on him. The dog, named Scarface, attacked its owner Brenda Guerrero when she went to put the garment on him and then bit her husband, Ismael Guerrero when he struggled to wrestle the angry dog off of his wife, WFTS reported. The Guerrero’s adult son Antoine Harris was next to attempt a rescue by stabbing Scarface in the head with a knife, but he too was attacked. All three family members ran into the home and left the dog in...

While waiting in line at their local Lowe’s on Sunday, Judy and Brian Rose did a double take. Behind them, a golden retriever sauntered by wearing one of the home improvement store’s red-and-blue employee vests. The dog didn’t seem to be accompanied by anyone at the time. And the vest looked so . . . official. “What’s up with the dog?” Brian Rose asked the cashier, laughing. The Abilene, Tex., couple was told the dog belonged to a store employee, a disabled veteran who had been hired for a part-time job a couple months before. “I’m a retired vet myself,” Brian Rose...

This video is pretty self-explanatory. People are incredibly tolerant of any form of self-identification nowadays. We dare not ask questions. Also, little rat-dogs are allowed in food establishments. Who knew? But what if a 90lbs Dogo Argentino identifies as a lap-dog? What are the rules then? Hilarity ensues... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wFwVjPrN2MM

Falconry is a game of cat and mouse, only with falcons and hawks, and seasoned falconers who need to be cagey like a fox ---snip--- Falconry, which Kisak describes as "the art of taking wild game with a trained bird of prey," attracts a small but dedicated group of hunters who relish the extensive time and financial commitment needed to train, care for, and hunt with their birds. Pennsylvania has 182 licensed falconers, said Chad Eyler, chief of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Special Permits Division in Harrisburg, which annually oversees about 90,000 permits in nearly 50 categories involving wild birds...

South Florida’s most aggressive invasive species has found a new way to grab headlines: slither atop a research platform in Biscayne Bay. Last month, a kayaker spied a 9-foot Burmese python wrapped around part of a platform more than a half mile offshore in Biscayne National Park usually inhabited by sunning cormorants. The sighting was a first for the park and another worrisome sign that the state’s out-of-control pythons are getting more adept at inhabiting the state’s salty fringes. In September, state wildlife biologists confirmed for the first time that the snakes are now breeding in the Keys.

A (Cocagne) New Brunswick trapper received an unexpected gift on Christmas Day—a rare melanistic bobcat. Studies show there has only been one other black bobcat caught in Canada. "I thought it was a house cat," said Oswald McFadden, who has run the same trapline for the last decade. "When I saw the tail I knew it wasn't a house cat. Then I looked at the ears, I knew it was definitely a bobcat." Melanism is a genetic trait that displays a black-coloured pigment and can often be found in species like squirrels and jaguars. Much like jaguars, this bobcat's spots...

A greedy dog ruined her family's Christmas after scoffing the turkey intended for their festive dinner. According to the pet's owner David Barrett, from Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Bubba, 5, a Chi Apso, (a cross between dog breeds Chihuahua and a Lhasa Apso), snuck into the kitchen on Christmas Eve and stole the food, which had been left on the side. The family had no idea what their hungry pooch had done until she suddenly collapsed bloated on the floor and unable to move.

An Australian couple woke up Christmas morning to find a fur seal doing its best impression of a hood ornament on their car, but residents of the town say this is not the first time a seal has tried to move in to the neighborhood. Animal control officers in Newstead, a suburb of Tasmania, subdued the seal as it ran from driveway to driveway and car to car through the neighborhood, apparently unsure how to get back to the nearby waterway it came from. "We got up and there was this great big seal on the roof of the car,...

A woman has jumped into a Northern Territory waterway to rescue her dog from a one-metre crocodile, in a move police say was "brave" but not recommended. Duty Superintendent James O'Brien said the woman, who had just moved from interstate, was walking her dogs at a park at Durack, in Palmerston, about 9:00am on Saturday. "It's quite a remarkable to happen a day before Christmas," Duty Superintendent O'Brien said. "While some of her dogs were running around having fun, one of her smaller dogs was sitting on the edge of the causeway when she noticed a crocodile came up and...

Hayley Miller had made up her mind. She would have to put down her pit bull mix, Ginger. The dog, which she had been fostering for nearly two years, had severe injuries. It had been shot in the face at close range, and Miller knew she couldn’t afford to pay for the extensive treatment to nurse the animal back to health. A stranger at the hospital, however, urged her to reconsider. To Miller’s amazement, the stranger offered to cover the bills for the medical treatment that would keep Ginger alive. The stranger was dressed in dark slacks and an instantly...
