Falconry is a game of cat and mouse, only with falcons and hawks, and seasoned falconers who need to be cagey like a fox ---snip--- Falconry, which Kisak describes as "the art of taking wild game with a trained bird of prey," attracts a small but dedicated group of hunters who relish the extensive time and financial commitment needed to train, care for, and hunt with their birds.
Pennsylvania has 182 licensed falconers, said Chad Eyler, chief of the Pennsylvania Game Commission's Special Permits Division in Harrisburg, which annually oversees about 90,000 permits in nearly 50 categories involving wild birds and mammals.

Train them to catch pythons in Florida.
When I was a youngster in the 50’s, one of the first books I ever read was a hardy boys - the hooded hawk mystery.
I have been interested in falconry from afar ever since.
Unfortunately I’ve never done it, but I may still get the chance.
I was awestruck when I learned about and saw a video of some tribe in Asia (Mongolia?) which hunts WOLVES with some large bird of prey. And I mean large.
I have a bird feeder outside my office, and I go out every morning and fill it. I can even get some chickadees to eat out of my hand.
The other morning, the chickadees were nowhere to be seen, and the sparrows (about 50 of them) were flying around in a tight sphere of a flock, making a huge noise, it sounded like they do when they are having a major internal squabble in their flock. But they kept doing it, flying from point to point in the thicket...and I thought “okay, this is kind of odd...”
When a hawk crashed through the ticket about 20 feet from where I was standing! It didn’t get anything, but explained a lot!
“Hooded Hawk Mystery” ping.
Golden Eagles trained to hunt wolves in mongolia. Very cool video.
At the 5:21 mark, you can see exactly when the eagle spots its owner and tucks its wings to go into a steep dive!
Novelist CJ Box has a character in his books who is a falconer. He describes the lifestyle well
Thanks
Whoa! That’s insane! At first, it looked like the wolf was running after the eagle, then...it was running away and the eagle took it down! Is that for real? Never seen anything like it...
Great video. Those birds were down right nasty!
Did you see how two of them teamed up on that one wolf? Geez, I would turn and run with my tail between my legs too.
I wouldn’t have thought an eagle could kick a wolf’s butt once it had it on the ground, but...there you have it!
You’re thinking of the Russian golden eagle, the Berkut
I may be wrong, but I don’t think those wolves are comparable in size to our timber wolves, who I think would make hash of that birdie. But I saw that video long ago, and it was incredible.
I agree, I would have thought a gray wolf or timberwolf would be more formidable, but...still.
Though these do look like coyote size...
How the heck can an eagle kill a medium sized dog?
