A disabled Air Force veteran needed a job. So Lowe’s hired him — and his service dog.

While waiting in line at their local Lowe’s on Sunday, Judy and Brian Rose did a double take.

Behind them, a golden retriever sauntered by wearing one of the home improvement store’s red-and-blue employee vests.

The dog didn’t seem to be accompanied by anyone at the time. And the vest looked so . . . official.

“What’s up with the dog?” Brian Rose asked the cashier, laughing.

The Abilene, Tex., couple was told the dog belonged to a store employee, a disabled veteran who had been hired for a part-time job a couple months before.

“I’m a retired vet myself,” Brian Rose told The Washington Post. “So I was actually impressed, one, that they hired a disabled vet, but also [a vet] with a dog. Because the dog could be a liability if somebody tripped over him or if something happened to a customer . . . and they took the chance on him anyways, and I thought that’s pretty awesome.”

It seems to me that “employing” a service dog (and his client) is an obvious win for any business. Service snake, not so much.

Yes, they got national press coverage. Think how much advertising dollars it would take to get the same coverage.

Well, that ... but I was just thinking of the popular appeal at the immediate customer level. The vast majority of people like animals, and they like others to like animals.

I am glad this individual received a job from Lowes. I talked with a recruiter at Lowes through the VA Virtual Recruitment fair. As soon as I said I was a disabled veteran, I was hung up on. This was to work in their corporate office just north of Charlotte. Glad this guy was able to find work at Lowes. I do business elsewhere now.

A small bonus is that there may be fewer muhamedans visiting the store. Many, per muhamed, don’t like dogs, especially big dogs. Now, if the dog were black, that would be the trifecta! muhamedans HATE big, black dogs, so there would be even less chance of terrorism because of the dog.

Years ago, my former wife was at the local library, looking at art books. She met a divorced, female muhamedan with a child in tow, also looking at art books. She invited this woman and her spawn to come over to the house and look at her paintings. When the muhamedan woman entered the house and saw our two big, black, dogs; she almost wet herself, running back to her car, dragging her spawn with her. Never heard from this woman again.

I never let on to my former wife, the joy I felt, that our two ‘babies’ so scared this woman. I still chuckle at this, though I guess that I shouldn’t.

It did occur to me that the dog’s presence might deter the more radical Moslem.
