Shelley Fabares - Lost Summer Love "Great song and a beautiful young lady. The lyrics are especially true today. Summertime in our youth in the 60s. Optimistic and a future filled with promise. Sigh. Class and innocence. Can't find that in the female singers today. Where is my time machine?"

Aretha Franklin, known for having one of the greatest voices in music history, and for hits like "Respect," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" ... died Thursday after a long battle with pancreatic cancer. Aretha passed away in her Detroit home where she was under hospice care. She'd been in failing health for many months and she was down to 86 pounds. One source told us he was informed more than a week ago that Aretha could go at any time. She was surrounded by friends and family when she passed. She had appeared incredibly frail in...

The pop star, formerly of the girl group Dream, accused Carter of rape. She opens up to Amy Zimmerman about the harassment, doxxing, and industry silence she’s endured since. ===================================================================== When she was 12, Melissa Schuman earned a place in Dream, a girl band that made its mark in the early aughts with hits like “This Is Me” and “He Loves U Not.” None other than Diddy signed Dream to Bad Boy Records, and they joined a pantheon of pop groups that were peaking in the 2000s. It was a whirlwind. “Basically, I was in Dream from 12 to 18,”...

Saw ELO at Denver Pepsi Center last Wednesday, 8,8,2018. Wow, show looked to n=be sold out. The wife and I had great seats. Section BBB, row 7. That is the center of the floor, row 7. It was amazing. Around 20 songs and I knew them all. It has been 35 years since ELO played in the USA and I was there. They have more dates before their last date in London. Two nights at Madison Square Gardens in NYC. Maybe 8 shows remaining. I highly recommend.

Monday morning, news broke that former WWF tag team champion Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart has died. He was 63 years old. WWE.com confirmed the news. "It is with a sad heart, that I share with you the passing of a long time friend and colleague, Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart. Your thoughts and prayers for the family are appreciated!" posted Cauliflower Alley Club president Brian Blair -- who often competed in the Killer Bees tag team against Neidhart and Bret "Hitman" Hart as the Hart Foundation.

This is exclusive, and heart breaking for me and for the family and friends of the great Aretha Franklin. She is gravely ill in Detroit. The family is asking for prayers and privacy. Originally diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Aretha, who turned 76 in March, bravely battled back and refused to be knocked out by illness. Her last performance as on November 2, 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York. Her final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017. It was a miraculous show as Aretha was already then fighting exhaustion and dehydration. Aretha...

Here is pop nugget from the past that only more "seasoned" Freepers will remember. Released in 1967, it was a Top 30 hit in America and had an otherworldly vibe to it. Very trippy and psychedelic. I can almost picture Frank asking his daughter what the hell she and Lee were smoking to come up with this one. I was just a small boy when this was popular but I remember hearing it on the radio. The accompanying video I linked here has a post apocalyptic "Planet of the Apes" feel to it. I did not discover the video until...

On this day in 1973, “American Graffiti,” a nostalgic coming-of-age tale set on the streets and steeped in the car-centric culture of suburban California, is released in theaters across the United States. The movie went on to become a sleeper hit. --SNIP-- The 1970s saw a boom in classic-car restoration, even as more and more Americans were driving Japanese imports. The era also saw an increasing number of “lowriders”–or classic cars or trucks with suspensions that had been modified so that they rode as low to the ground as possible

First lady Melania Trump has already begun prepping the White House for Christmas, which still remains four months away. And just like last year, this year she intends to recruit help from the public to make this Christmas spectacular again. In a press release published Aug. 3, the White House explained that it’s specifically looking for musicians, entertainers and volunteers for this year’s preparations. Volunteers will reportedly be chosen to help decorate, while musicians and entertainers will be selected to perform during White House open houses in December. Becoming a volunteer isn’t as easy as just signing up, though. Potential...

According to his daughter Alison, Eastwood is more easygoing than how most people see him. “My dad is a much more cool and laid-back guy than a lot of his characters,” his daughter Alison told Closer Weekly. “He has a wonderfully dry, dark sense of humor.” He certainly couldn’t have been too “laid-back,” however, as he had the relatively hands-on job of raising seven children. “My parents split up when I was pretty young, but he always made time for us, even when he was working,” Allison said.

That this film is called “1945” means many things. World War II has just ended, and a little town in Hungary—where the Soviets still tool around in jeeps—has not made the psychological transition from a German-occupied country to a post-war community where democracy is supposed to take root. The cross over the dirt highway entering the town signals that it is Christian territory and the joyous atmosphere of the day in which the the town clerk István’s (Péter Rudolf) son will marry the lovely Rózsi (Dóra Sztarenki) signifies a bright future for a town that has survived Nazi occupation. The...

One of Britain’s most famous comedians has defended Boris Johnson’s “joke” about the Islamic burqa face veil, calling it “funny” and “an almost perfect simile”. Rowan Atkinson, the man behind Mr Bean and Blackadder, which frequently mocked historical and religious figures, said that the former foreign secretary should not have to apologise for offending Muslims. Other comedians such as Jonathan Pie creator Tom Walker, promptly chimed in with their own satirical takes: I always found Blackadder to be predominantly white men childishly lampooning the history of other white men. That show would thankfully NEVER get made in these enlightened times....

I've been asked by fans of Chris Plante if I have a list of terrestrial radio stations where he can be heard out of. Many people are on vacation in the summer months and listen to Chris on their car radio. WMAL did not have a list, nor does Westwood One, but this posted list is what I've gathered so far. It's unofficial and incomplete. LISTENING TO CHRIS PLANTE VIA TERRESTRIAL RADIO UNOFFICIAL COMPILATION OF U.S. RADIO STATIONS GATHERED BY SILVIE - 8/9/18 (Not a complete list. If the local radio station where you listen to Plante is not listed...
