Elaine Silets is a train lover like no other. Not only did she make a career out of building model train displays but her expansive estate is an homage to the locomotive. And over the weekend, Silets did something she does but once per year: she opened up her gardens to the public and something like 6,000 curious train lovers descended on her home. With10 acres of gardens, waterfalls, lakes, trestles, bridges, and replica towns and pastoral scenes, her Glorée & Tryumfant Garden Railway in North Barrington, Illinois, it’s no wonder they call her the Train Lady. A 60-year-old Salt Lake City man has been charged with aggravated arson after he set his wife’s pants on fire. Bryce Whitaker and his wife had been arguing about her snoring, which led Whitaker to take a pair of pants and set them on fire with a candle when she wasn’t looking. Whitaker later woke up his wife when the fire grew out of control. No injuries were reported.

Ok, gotta admit I've wanted an AR-15 for awhile, and now the State of Illinois is looking to ban "assault weapons" and trying to make political hay out of the Aurora, Colorado shootings last week. I'm opposed to government gun control, and I'd like to add a nice AR-15 to my collection. Problem is, I'm not well versed on them, and my budget is about $1200 for one. I've looked at the Smith & Wesson AR-15 Sport and think it's "ok" but I'm interested in something a little more.

I apologize for the vanity posting, but I am at the end of my rope on this. And that leads me to ask this question to the smartest people in the world, the people that read and post articles to the Free Republic website. You cant buy fresh "off the tree" olives anywhere, that I can find, in California. And they are everywhere. I was up in Napa and Sonoma Valley last week, and there are olive trees everywhere. We drove all over the place, to every produce stand we could find. Nobody sells uncured olives. The thing is, I...

If I had tried to get this same image by trying to pose the animals, it never would have happened. The best pictures of livestock and pets come from the moment. Animals have emotions, but they do not provide them on a command. Looking at Rita's face, the strength and love of this animal shows.
