Where are you, country? Why can’t I find you? Why have you gone away? Adapting Cindy Lou’s song about the loss of Christmas spirit in Whoville expresses the sadness for what as been lost in my country. When I was a young boy in the small town of Piedmont, Missouri, the local physician, Doc Jones, would come to your house if you were sick. People paid him in cash, or perhaps some other goods. No one imagined they had a “right” to have someone else pay Doc Jones. It was their solemn duty, part of leading a responsible and moral...

I saw this movie a couple of days ago and am still reeling from its presentation. It is the story of a family torn apart by the Korean war and how they work from being dirt poor to successful. It is a story of a family losing and finding its loved ones. It has the sweetest scene I have seen in ANY movie, but it's not staged or recorded. It's a real recording from history, which has a tremendous effect on those watching. It really happened. This movie is worth watching

George W. Bush made Jon Stewart. Even Stewart has admitted that his show came into its own when Bush did. A world in which a President Gore spent eight years sonorously lecturing Americans about his love for the trees is also a world in which Jon Stewart would be out there doing pizza...

A recent Wall Street Journal op-ed does the dual service of outlining the history of the federal budget-making process over the last century, while showing, in its perilous and wrongheaded scheme for reform, just why this yawn-inducing topic is so important—and how the mess Washington has made of the enterprise subverts the key principle of our Constitution’s vision of democratic government.

Arutz Sheba reports: An Algerian cleric recently sought to explain the claims by some Muslims that Jews are descendants of apes and pigs. The cleric, Chemseddine el Djazairi, spoke on Ennahar TV on February 8. The clip was translated and uploaded to YouTube by the Middle East Media. According to el Djazairi, contemporary Jews are not descendants of apes and pigs. However, he went on to say, some Jews may have been transformed to these animals in the past - but this line has been severed. "Contemporary Jews are of the seed of Adam, not of the apes and pigs,...

Flylock switchblade made 1918 to 1929.  3 3/8 inches long, closed. In 1958, the United States congress passed a law that banned the manufacture of switchblade knives for interstate commerce.  Most states followed the federal example.  It was a stupid and pointless law that had no serious effect on criminals, but which ensnared tens if not hundreds of thousands of innocent people.   Forturnately, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (BATF) did not exist at the time, or we might have had the BATFK.  The history of this law, the yellow journalism which promoted it, and the corrupt...

There has been much discussion after Obama's contrived comparison of the Crusades and Christianity to Islam and ISIS at the National Prayer Breakfast last week. And then yesterday we have Obama asking for "war powers" to go after ISIS. It just occurred to me, that Obama ironically prophesied his next foreign policy disaster. Obama is launching the 21st century's "Obama Crusades." May God have mercy on America and our military forces.

[Excerpted within the excerpt]...Channel 10 exposed on Sunday that in recent months black ISIS flags have been commonly seen in Arab-Israeli towns in northern and coastal Israel, notably in the cities of Nazareth and Akko. The flags have been seen flying among both Muslim and Christian Arab citizens of Israel, an ironic move given that ISIS in Iraq has emptied cities of their Christian populations by issuing them an ultimatum either to convert to Islam, pay non-Muslim jhizya taxes – or die.” Understood? ADDED into this fiery mix, a related exposé was written (Jan. 2015), and it revealed some (dangerous)...

Senator Tim Bivins has introduced an act to allow people with valid concealed carry permits to carry, purchase, and possess switchblade knives, stun guns, or tasers.  It is an incremental reform to the Illinois code.  If the bill can make it out of committee and up for a vote, it seems imminently sensible.  Who would object to someone who is legally allowed to carry a concealed pistol, from being allowed to carry a knife, stun gun, or taser in the same circumstances? From ilga.gov:  Amends the Criminal Code of 2012. Provides that a person who has been issued a...

Obama: Media Overstates Terror Threat Obama’s timing couldn’t be worse. Just as a new report has demonstrated yet again that global warming is a hoax, he has backed it in a new interview as a “longer-term” problem than jihad terror. During a lengthy conversation published over two days by the far-Left publication Vox, interviewer Matthew Yglesias asked Obama: “Do you think the media sometimes overstates the level of alarm people should have about terrorism and this kind of chaos, as opposed to a longer-term problem of climate change and epidemic disease?” Obama readily agreed – and his full answer was...

dis·arm·ist   (ds-ärmst)    alt.  dis·arm·en·ter (ds-ärmn-tr) n. 1. A political operative who works to disarm political opposition through the use of irrational and/or emotional arguments. 2. A person who believes that disarming citizens will reduce crime or unjustified violence, in spite of contrary evidence or facts. 3. A person who wishes to disarm others because they do not trust themselves to bear arms responsibly. Disarmists often claim that armed citizens are afraid, fearmongers, or cowardly.   All of these accusations are projections of the disarmists' own fears.   Most armed Americans are less fearful than those who wish to disarm them, but...

Monday, February 09, 2015 Beat the Media, Win the White House Posted by Daniel Greenfield @ the Sultan Knish blog One of the reasons that Romney lost is that he failed to take on the media. The ultimate lost opportunity came when CNN’s debate moderator Candy Crowley directly inserted herself into the argument between Obama and Romney to declare her favorite right and Romney wrong. Romney had won the Republican primaries, but had failed to absorb the lesson of his most tenacious opponent. Newt Gingrich did not treat the media as a neutral moderator, but as a debate opponent, challenging...

-while sending Jews fleeing for their lives? What could possibly go wrong? While never sure of his true motivations, I find myself for the first time in memory agreeing with Obama's position on something -talk of sending weaponry to Kiev- and in the face of fierce opposition by the Europeans. But if Washington can't see why a why an EU surrender to a economically weak, backward Russia was pretty much inevitable, those in the Kremlin could: sold-out, corrupt traitors like Gerhard Shroeder long ago hooked-up the EU's natural gas demand to The Bear's teat.  Alas, Europeans do seem to be slowly...

ISIS immolates a pilot, Obama retaliated by attacking Christianity. You see, somehow it's OUR fault that Islamic extremists commit these heinous acts. “There is a tendency in us, a sinful tendency, that can pervert and distort our faith.” We are guilty of the crime of high-horsery. “Lest we get on our high horse and think this is unique to some other place, remember that during the Crusades and the Inquisition, people committed terrible deeds in the name of Christ. In our home country, slavery and Jim Crow all too often was justified in the name of Christ.” How dare we...

Giulio Meotti, an Italian journalist with Il Foglio, wrote an interesting Op-Ed which I share here because it portends what is coming to America. It's only a matter of time. This because, like Belgium, America is committing spiritual and intellectual suicide. Giulio Meotti: Belgium is Committing Suicide As the capital of the European Union goes, so goes Europe. And the details are worse than you can imagine. Belgium has the highest per capita number of Islamic terrorists gone to fight in Syria and Iraq than any other European country. Brussels is the capital of the holy war, as well as...

Distortion of Christian history in an attempt to downplay the real threat of worldwide Islamic extremism Now we are seeing how, on President Obama’s cue, the Left is dredging up every bad thing done by Christian Crusaders nearly 1000 years ago and done by a very small number of white racists 50 years ago and more, all things that are no longer done or allowed. Whatever the reasoning for this compulsion to make America out to be as evil as ISIS, it becomes a defense the actions of ISIS. Equating the bloodthirsty methodology of ISIS with what? With a few...

The news media “absolutely” overstates the risks of terrorism because stories about things like climate change aren’t “sexy” and don’t drive ratings, President Obama said in an interview published Monday. “What's the famous saying about local newscasts, right? If it bleeds, it leads, right?” Obama told Vox. “You show crime stories and you show fires, because that's what folks watch, and it's all about ratings. And, you know, the problems of terrorism and dysfunction and chaos, along with plane crashes and a few other things, that's the equivalent when it comes to covering international affairs. “ Obama said there was...

Dangerous in a world that is so interconnected-where evil spreads in the blink of an eye, the click of a mouse. “While Christianity fought against its inner evil, removing it from its soul, Islam has not.” President Barak Obama spoke of intolerance at the National Prayer Breakfast February 5. He fears a backlash toward the more than 1.5 billion Muslims in the world after the release of the video of the burning alive of Jordanian pilot Muath Al-Kasaesbeh by ISIS. And the beheadings of journalists and other Westerners. And the news of Boko Haram and the Yazidis; the mass murder...
