Two leading newspapers have posted incorrect reports regarding the role of Free Republic in the dissemination of a bogus story about an alleged pre-existing spinal injury to Freddie Gray that contributed to his death in Baltimore police custody. Those incorrect reports are being repeated by blogs. The Baltimore Sun falsely reported: "The Free Republic website said Wednesday that Gray's "life-ending injuries to his spine may have possibly been the result of spinal and neck surgery that he allegedly received a week before he was arrested." The article also said the injury was the result of a car accident and cited...

Online reports are swirling that Freddie Gray had spinal surgery shortly before he died in police custody, and had collected a payout in a settlement from a car accident. Those reports — which raise questions about the injury that led to his death in April 19 — point to Howard County court records as proof. But court records examined Wednesday by The Baltimore Sun show the case had nothing to do with a car accident or a spine injury. Instead, they are connected to a lawsuit alleging that Gray and his sister were injured by exposure to lead paint.

I have noticed that there seems to be more and more posters on FR that have accounts from the 1990's or early 2000's, that are posting a lot more frequently. I can't be the only one that has noticed this. Maybe it was Ted Cruz, I don't know, but I'd like to know that I'm not alone here.

Newsmax is out with our 2015 list of the 50 top conservative blogs. The Internet now allows anyone who cares to invest the time and trouble to become a political commentator with, potentially, many times the readership of the most long-established syndicated columnists. The media elite, from the Big Three Networks to the local newspaper, have suffered a collapse in influence and a hemorrhage of revenues as Americans simply click on their favorite bookmarks for informed opinions about the events around them. ....snip.... 5. Free Republic - “Working to roll back decades of governmental largesse, to root out political fraud...

This global warming is becoming scary when it can put Free Republic off-line.Is global warming net neutrality's excuse for stifling conservative talk?

I found three Freepers (in the last 24 hours that prior to a few days ago (10 days at the most) have not been active in a very long time...... At least a year and a half or more. The other two Freepers have no posts for 7 years and 3 years. Now prior to that time gap all would have maybe 1 or 2 posts a years several years ago. Yet in the last few days they are posting a lot. I find that very odd? I think these accounts have been hijacked by the opposition? For those that...

The Federal Election Commission is considering expanding their regulatory power to include political speech online… Yeah, let’s regulate the internet. I mean, free speech can’t just be expected to run wild or anything, right? The FEC held an open hearing yesterday to determine if they will move forward on clamping down on political content online (such as blogs, YouTube videos, and other “free” messaging). According to CNS News:Last October, FEC Chairwoman Ann Ravel issued a statement in which she complained that the agency was not doing enough to monitor activity on the Internet.Right… Because I know I’m terrified that the feds...

(CNSNews.com) -- The Federal Election Commission (FEC) is holding a hearing today to receive public feedback on whether it should create new rules regulating political speech, including political speech on the Internet that one commissioner warned could affect blogs, YouTube videos and even websites like the Drudge Report. The hearing is a response to the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling in McCutcheon v. FEC last year, which struck down the FEC’s previous cap on aggregate campaign contributions from a single donor in an election cycle. Before the decision, individuals were limited to a combined total of $46,200 in contributions to all...

Today's America is a scary place for far-right troglodytes, my friends. It's a place were "teh geys" are allowed to hold hands in public and have matrimonial "butt secks" in their homes without the threat of a public stoning. It's a place were Shakira Law threatens the very foundations of our nation with telenovelas and tamales. It's a place where death panels decide weather you'll get an appendectomy, a proctological exam, or a free pass to see the latest in FEMA coffins. It's a place where our Food Stamp President works ceaselessly to spend our country into back alley bankruptcy,...

WASHINGTON, Feb. 4 (UPI) — The Federal Communications Commission will seek more influence on Internet regulation to ensure net neutrality, its chairman said Wednesday. In an editorial published on {link:the website of the magazine Wired: “http://www.wired.com/2015/02/fcc-chairman-wheeler-net-neutrality?mbid=social_twitter”,nw}, Tom Wheeler explained new rules, proposed this week, “to preserve the Internet as an open platform for innovation and free expression. This proposal is rooted in long-standing regulatory principles, marketplace experience, and public input.” The new rules will cast {link:high-speed Internet service as a public utility: “http://www.cnbc.com/id/102376526″,nw}, an unidentified person, who was consulted the FCC {link:on the proposal, told CNN: “http://money.cnn.com/2015/02/02/technology/net-neutrality-fcc/index.html”,nw}. Let's get this FReepathon up to 20% by this coming Monday so we have a nice base to build on. If you had a loved one or friend leave us in the past year you might want to give as a memorial to them. Enjoy sharing with other conservatives and talking about current events, reminiscing, chatting about politics and even weird stories? Send in some money, whatever you can spare. Thanks!

I have been here going on 15 years. I have seen many freepers come and go, including myself a time or two. I have always retained my handle yet I see names dated from way back when I do not remember ever seeing back then. Is it possible to change your handle and yet keep your sign up date?

Yesterday, my girlfriend and I borded an Amtrak passenger train in Stockton to travel to visit her friends in Visalia for Thanksgiving. Amtrak offers its passengers free WIFI as part of their amenities on the trip. As part of the log on, it specifies that Amtrak block access to "offensive" web sites, but otherwise allows free access to the Internet. I agreed to their conditions and found myself connected. Four attempts to connect to FreeRepublic resulted in being notified that my browser could not connect to the server! Thinking FR might be down, I turned off my WIFI, and reverted...

If you’re like many in the conservative community, you go to Free Republic to discuss the issues of the day, find out the news and see that you're not alone. Why? Because you know you will receive absolutely the best information, views, strategies and tactics in advancing the cause and nullifying the statist progressive/liberals and their outlandish, un-American plans and actions. And you also know that you’ll be treated like a real person, by other conservatives in a warm, caring, if somewhat challenging environment. Your contributions have helped make Free Republic the leading conservative website that it is. We are...

As a relative n00b, I remember when I first signed up on FR and being careful not to post anything at first for fear of ***SOB*** FReeper ridicule, that most every Sunday evening, some DUer or other troll would post some stupid, provocative thread just to piss FReepers off.The retaliation by FReepers was immediate and relentless. The troll was soundly over-powered by logic and facts that completely destroyed their point. The Viking kitties emerged and the trolls were soundly zotted into oblivion.Anyhoo, I haven't seen a good, Sunday evening ZOT in awhile. Do you have any favorite ZOTS that you remember?
