Earl Malone, Suspected Armed Robber One adult attempts to rob another, using the threat of deadly force. The victim is an armed adult with a concealed carry permit. He defends himself, and the attempted robber dies. Cause for muted thanks, correct? The good guy won, and there is one less hardened criminal on the street to make the city a slightly less dangerous place. The CBSMinnesota headline: Man Released After Claiming Self Defense In Fatal Mpls. ShootingThis from cbslocal.com: Authorities believe he was acting in self-defense when he fatally shot 18-year-old Earl Malone Saturday night at the intersection of...

The 2nd Amendment gives us the right to bear arms, but it does not limit the amount of ammunition a person can own.

I have to thank Sean Sorrentino of An NC Gun Blog* for pointing out this opinion article from one Kasie Strickland in the Pickens, SC Sentinel. Typically, we do not re-post entire editorials from other media organizations, but I have a real concern that if we don’t post the entire article today that it may very well be deleted out of embarrassment tomorrow. As you read, this, please keep in mind that this person not only votes, but that someone in a higher editorial position thought that this opinion was worth sharing.

In the story, it is clear that the dog that attacked was unsecured and in violation of the law. The family had been gently warned that their dog might escape. The CCW carrier's fears were realized, and he had to use deadly force to save his own, legally restrained, dog. The dog is referred to as a "lab" but it is clear that it is a mix of some kind. It was an adopted dog, so its ancestry is not certain. Most dogs are very territorial; it is not surprising that they will attack other dogs that they view...

With the midterms just over a month away New York City’s former mayor Michael Bloomberg is spending at least $50 million to make his gun-control agenda part of this election. His gun-control group Everytown for Gun Safety has endorsed more than 100 federal and state candidates. They are also running television commercials, holding events and pushing their studies into the newsrooms of a mostly favorable press.

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-Mo.) blasted the Obama administration for requesting racial information during gun sales. “The right of law-abiding citizens to own firearms is an individual right guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution,” Blunt wrote in a letter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) over the weekend. “The constitutional right of a citizen to own a firearm has nothing to do with race or ethnicity.” Blunt demanded answers as to why the ATF would want or need racial information about gun purchasers.

Though her ban on certain styles of rifles lapsed a decade ago, Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D., Calif.) continues to push for its reinstatement and tout its effectiveness. A new fact-check from Pro Publica found Feinstein’s Clinton-era assault weapons ban had no noticeable effect on crime. In the ten years since the federal assault weapons ban expired, Sen. Dianne Feinstein has kept trying to renew the law, which she authored. In a press release this month honoring the 20th anniversary of the ban, she wrote, “The evidence is clear: The ban worked.” But gun violence experts say the exact opposite. “There...

The little known Wildlife Restoration Act of 1937, also known as the Pittman-Robertson Act, imposed an excise tax on firearms and ammunition. It was supported at the time by hunters and the gun industry and revenues would be dedicated to protecting species, wildlife habitats, setting up hiking trails, public shooting ranges, and various conservation efforts. In 2012, the revenue generated from the fund was $371 million. But that nearly doubled over the last two years to $760 million in fiscal year 2014, according to Guns.com. During this time, Obama pushed for stricter gun control laws. The tax is 11 percent...

A South Carolina prosecutor’s office has released dash-camera video of the September 4 shooting by Police Officer Sean Groubert of Levar Edward in a gas station parking lot. It appears that Edward was in good faith simply complying with Groubert’s demands for identification, but in a manner that led Groubert to believe that Edward was lunging for a weapon. The good news: the shooting victim, Edward, was not killed. The bad news: just about everything else. Here’s the dash-camera footage:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BTGTntifabIHere’s a brief textual description of events as I saw them, for those who may not be in a position to watch the...

When it comes to campaign spending on the right to bear arms, the National Rifle Association is almost never outgunned. But in Washington state, where voters soon will decide on one of the most restrictive background check laws in the country, the NRA is up against some of the deepest pockets in the world. And the NRA is getting outspent more than 7-1. “This is a terrible ballot initiative that was dreamed up by people who don’t even live in Washington,” NRA spokeswoman Catherine Mortensen said, “and it’s being financed by Michael Bloomberg of New York and his billionaire pals.”

In light of a federal judge denying a request from the Department of Justice to delay the release of a long-sought after Fast and Furious document list, the sister of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, Kelly Terry-Willis, doesn't find the timing of Attorney General Eric Holder's resignation to be a coincidence. "I do not find it a coincidence that Eric Holder chose now to resign after Judge Bates denied the request from the DOJ to delay the release of the Fast and Furious documents. I personally think Eric Holder was really hoping that the documents would never be made public to...

The teen shot and killed Tuesday (Sept. 23) by a Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's deputy was holding a BB gun, The Courier reported Wednesday. The deputy, who was investigating reports of armed individuals at an abandoned house in Houma, was met at the door by 14-year-old Cameron Tillman holding a BB gun, Terrebonne Sheriff Jerry Larpenter said. The deputy, thinking it was a real gun, "feared for his life," he said.

U.S. District Court Judge John D. Bates has denied a request from the Department of Justice to delay the release of a list of Operation Fast and Furious documents being protected under President Obama's assertion of executive privilege. The list, better known as a Vaughn index, was requested through a June 2012 FOIA filing by government watchdog Judicial Watch. When DOJ didn't respond to the FOIA request in the time required by law, Judicial Watch sued in September 2012, seeking all documents DOJ and the White House are withholding from Congress under executive privilege claims. President Obama made the assertion...

Map from usacarry.com It was only a couple of decades ago that crossing state lines left most law abiding people effectively disarmed. That started changing as the "shall issue" concealed carry firearms reform swept through the country. I particularly remember how criminals were targeting people with rental cars in Florida, because they could be fairly certain that the people were from out of state, and thus effectively disarmed. Florida responded by changing there law to allow for interstate reciprocity, and to allow non-residents to obtain Florida concealed carry permits. Florida permits are now one of the most popular...

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — An unarmed man shot by a South Carolina trooper during a traffic stop repeated one question through his anguished cries as he lay wounded, waiting for an ambulance: "Why did you shoot me?" Levar Jones' painful groans and then-Trooper Sean Groubert's reply — "Well you dove head first back into your car" — were captured by a dashboard camera in the trooper's car. Groubert had stopped Jones on a seatbelt violation at a Columbia gas station and fired the shots moments after asking Jones for his license

Below is a very interesting read from the FBI Training Division, FBI Academy, Quantico, VA. from a few months ago. This was a PDF file that was sent to me by a coworker. I want to emphasis this is not mine and I did not create it/the content. I simply copied the text and placed it in this format, here on Loose Rounds, so it was easier to see. It is an executive summary of justification for law enforcement agencies on 9mm for duty carry. If you have followed us here, you know I have been talking about numerous agencies...
