An upstate New York lawmaker said the loss of manufacturing jobs in the state last month is due to an anti-gun administration that has ignored pleas from local officials to be involved in the negotiating process. “Remington talks have come to a halt,” said Assemblyman Marc W. Butler (R.-Newport), whose district includes the Village of Ilion, where the Remington Outdoor Company has been located for almost 200 years. “We are losing 105 jobs at the Ilion primary plant,” said Butler. In February he predicted long-term consequences of Remington’s decision to expand to Huntsville, Ala., instead of Ilion, N.Y. The small...

There’s a new semi-automatic handgun on the horizon for the Army that U.S. consumers may have access to almost immediately. When that happens, America’s emergency rooms better be prepared for the carnage that’s likely to follow. Today, during a so-called “industry day,” the U.S. Army is briefing arms manufacturers on its requirements for a new handgun, The Atlantic reported yesterday. “Several gun makers will compete for the lucrative contract.”

I have read thousands of stories of citizens fighting criminals, and usually winning, especially if they are armed. In very rare cases, the criminal takes a weapon from an armed citizen. It seems to be a bit more common for a citizen to take a weapon from the criminal. It makes sense when you consider that the citizen has a lot more to lose than the criminal. Criminals, by their actions, have shown that they have no concern for the rights of others, so a victim has reason to fear for their life. Most citizens...

A couple of new studies reveal the gun-control hypesters’ worst nightmare…more people are buying firearms, while firearm-related homicides and suicides are steadily diminishing. What crackpots came up with these conclusions? One set of statistics was compiled by the U.S. Department of Justice. The other was reported by the Pew Research Center. According to DOJ’s Bureau of Justice Statistics, U.S. gun-related homicides dropped 39 percent over the course of 18 years, from 18,253 during 1993, to 11,101 in 2011. During the same period, non-fatal firearm crimes decreased even more, a whopping 69 percent. The majority of those declines in both categories...

The Wyoming Department of Corrections should be able to employ a firing squad to execute condemned inmates if the state can't find the drugs to carry out lethal injections, a legislative committee voted Friday. There's been talk this year about reinstituting the firing squad in Utah. That state outlawed execution by firing squad in 2004, but kept it as an option for inmates convicted before that time. It last executed an inmate by firing squad in 2010. Linda Burp, director of the ACLU in Wyoming, said the United States stands with such nations as China, Iraq and Syria in continuing...

Initiative-594, the universal background check initiative being bankrolled by millionaires and billionaires in Washington state, will lead to "universal handgun registration" if passed. Page 2 of the 18-page initiative opens the door to such registration by "extending the requirement for a background check to apply to all gun sales and transfers within the state." This means record keeping, and record keeping means the formation of a database to compile the location of all known guns and the names of all known gun owners.

Coeur d'Alene City Council. Idaho, as with most states, has a preemption statute that guarantees uniform gun laws across the state. The laws have proven to be popular in the United States. All states have some form of preemption. In New York, courts have ruled that the State handgun licensing law preempts local ordinances. The laws vary in their application by state. The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance is pushing Idaho governments to follow the state law. Most have been doing so, at least when notified. Coeur d'Alene seems to have less respect for the rule of law than most. ...
