Former Commerce Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, Mitt Romney's top Hispanic surrogate, is calling for the Republican Party to "modernize" and embrace comprehensive immigration reform in order to survive as a national party. "We need to modernize. Modernization includes diversity. Obviously, immigration reform is part of that process of diversity," he told The Hill on Tuesday. "We are the party of growth, of business, of entrepreneurship, of innovation. We cannot continue to be that without an effective immigration policy." Gutierrez, who chaired Romney's Hispanic Steering Committee during the GOP nominee's presidential campaign, blames Romney's rightward primary shift on immigration for his loss....

- The Daily Caller - http://dailycaller.com - The Grover Plan: More Cowbell!Posted By Mickey Kaus On 5:58 AM 11/13/2012 @ 5:58 AM In DC Exclusives,KausFiles | No Comments We’ll dilute our way out of it! Republicans did poorly among Hispanics last week. How to address that problem? The answer, they’re told by Washington savants, is to back an immigration reform that … increases the number of Hispanics! It’s a plan so crazy it just might be crazy.Joshua Culling, who works for Grover Norquist’s Americans for Tax Reform, elaborates on the plan elsewhere on this site. It turns out the idea–let’s...

An advocacy group for young immigrants expressed concern Wednesday after President Barack Obama, at his first press conference in months, said he would support "a pathway for legal status" for those living in the country illegally. "He looked like he sidestepped around saying 'citizenship,'" said Marisol Valero, spokeswoman for United We Dream, a group that represents young people who were brought to the country illegally as children and want the opportunity to become citizens. "We are worried that the president and other leaders will not be supporting a path to citizenship for everyone."

Rush is right! And the GOP-e along with the Morrises, the George Wills, etc, failed in their predictions. Morris admitted he had egg on his face, but I did not see George Will admit this. Maybe he did, but I didn't see it. Are the now obsolete? Are the Krauthammers, the O'Reillys, the Vannitys, Rollins, etc also obsolete? Is Vannity still going to continue having the same ol same ol on his show? And what about the other shows on FOX News? Are they going to continue having RINOS/CINO guests/hosts on their shows? Mitt Romney got fewer votes than McCain...

'Amnesty = Hispanic votes' is nothing more than a desert mirage, one based on easily-disproven false premises... Listen up, Gee-oh-Pee establishment losers: As the despicable, disingenuous American left LOVE to remind us over-and-over-and-over, Ronald Reagan -in a good faith effort to settle the issue once and for all- allowed a 'one time only' legalization of 2.7M mostly-Mexican immigrants by signing 1986's Simpson-Mazzoli Act, and attempt at immigration reform which granted not just amnesty but full citizenship. While that's true enough, The Gipper actually came to regard his signing of the legislation as one of the 'greatest regrets' of his two-term presidency, since the man Reagan once...

The GOP's Presidential election defeat is opening up a debate in the party, with more than a few voices saying they are willing to rethink their views on immigration. This is good news, which means it's also a good moment to address some of the frequent claims from the anti-immigration right that simply aren't true, especially about Hispanics. One myth is that Latino voters simply aren't worth pursuing because they're automatic Democrats. Yet Ronald Reagan was so eager to welcome Latinos to the GOP that he described them as "Republicans who don't know it yet." Recall that between 1996 and...

Sens. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), three key Republican players on immigration, told The Hill they're ready to start working on broad-based reforms next year that could include a pathway to citizenship for the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently in the United States.

When the smarmiest Senate Democrat and the smarmiest Senate Republican sit down for talks on an issue of fundamental importance to the nation, and to the future of conservatism, conservatives should be very scared. When the smarmy Democrat is Chuck Schumer, a shrewd partisan, and the smarmy Republican is Lindsay Graham, a squish who gets his kicks from cooperating with Democrats, conservatives should panic. Schumer’s objectives in the negotiations are clear: to reach a deal that will enable the Democrats (1) to cement their position as the Party that dragged reluctant Republicans into a breakthrough immigration deal, thereby keeping the...

The dream act is a socialist democrat dream come true. And a nightmare for liberty minded Americans. The dream act solves no problems. Amnesty solves no problems. The border will not be enforced and instead will be flung wide open. We do not have jobs for Senator Graham's "eleven million" illegal aliens already here and their offspring nor the other eleven or twelve million he's not counting and their offspring and all their relatives that will be following. We cannot afford the welfare, foodstamps, housing, education, healthcare, EITC, etc, that they demand. And the flood across the borders will be...

Of all the misguided, corrupt and deranged ideas floating around inside the D.C. bubble, perhaps the single worst one is giving illegal aliens amnesty as part of some sort of attempt to capture the Hispanic vote. If the GOP were to pursue a policy that primarily benefits corrupt business owners, the government of Mexico, and Democrats at the expense of our country and our own base, we'd truly deserve the "Stupid Party" moniker that has so often been hung around our neck. This policy wouldn't be a calculated risk or even a longshot; it would be a game of Russian...

Alert! The entire GOP elite seems to be trying to sell out en masse on immigration. Not only Boehner, but Cantor. And Hannity (who works for pro-amnesty world citizen Rupert Murdoch). Even Krauthammer. … Maybe these people are convinced the larger GOP project can be saved simply by caving on just this one issue. That seems cracked. The bulk of the Hispanic electorate appears to instinctively vote Democratic, and not just because of immigration. (“[T]his is just a fairly liberal voting block.”) Maybe they can be wooed over to the Republican side over the course of decades. But by then...

aving suffered not one but several humiliating defeats on Tuesday, Republicans are in danger of embracing “comprehensive” immigration reform — which is to say, amnesty — out of panic. The GOP does need to do better among Hispanics and other voters, but this is not the way to achieve that — and, more important, it is bad policy. A formal policy of refusing to enforce the law is not obviously the best substitute for an informal policy of refusing to enforce the law. But first, credit should be given where it is due: The Obama administration, by keeping economic growth...

Gingrich: GOP needs to be "inclusive" In the aftermath of Mitt Romney's presidential loss last week, Newt Gingrich is joining the cadre of Republicans calling for the Republican Party to more actively reach out to a more diverse electorate, arguing on Monday that the party needs to become more "inclusive." "I think we need to be inclusive, and I emphasize the difference between inclusive and outreach," Gingrich said Monday morning in an appearance on ABC's "The View." "Outreach is when five white guys have a meeting and call you. Inclusive is when you're in the meeting. And I think we...

We have illegal immigrants living among us here in Texas. We like them and greatly appreciate their contribution. However, we should make a distinction between those who are here only to work, and those who are here to work and to integrate into American society. Here is my plan. Non U.S. citizens could apply for a Work Visa whether they reside in a foreign country or are already in America illegally—no distinction. To be accepted they must meet certain basic criteria of literacy and a clean record. Those who are accepted into the Work Visa program as illegal aliens would...

But by then there will be another wave of new, instinctively Democratic illegal immigrants (lured by the Boehner Amnesty) for Dems to appeal to. [Snip] The larger point is that “Comprehensive Immigration Reform”–which is supposed to be a simultaneous combination of an amnesty plus enforcement measures–is a terrible idea. It’s...

Mark Levin responds to calls from conservative commentators, like Charles Krauthammer, to grant amnesty to illegal immigration in order to entice Hispanics to vote Republican. Levin explains why this won't work and what a slippery slope amnesty would be. (Mark Levin Show, November 8, 2012) MARK LEVIN: You know, I've always known this, but I'm coming to the conclusion yet again that Republican leaders are really stupid people. And I'm coming to the conclusion that are an awful lot of stupid people posing as commentators on cable TV. I mean, where do these people come from? Now, this immigration issue....

They lose and immediately the chorus begins. Republicans must change or die. A rump party of white America, it must adapt to evolving demographics or forever be the minority.

The only part of this that is even partially true regards Hispanics. They should be a natural Republican constituency: striving immigrant community, religious, Catholic, family-oriented, and socially conservative (on abortion, for example).

AVENPORT, Iowa — The Obama campaign’s strategy of winning the election with the help of Hispanic voters was on full display Wednesday as President Obama promised to achieve immigration reform next year, and a top aide predicted the country’s fast-growing number of minority voters will propel the president to a second term. In an interview that the White House originally insisted be kept off the record, Mr. Obama told an Iowa newspaper that he’s “confident” he will achieve immigration reform next year if he’s re-elected. “Since this is off the record, I will just be very blunt,” Mr. Obama told...
