Maryland Likely To Continue Momentum for Trump, Clinton (Trump 43%, Kasich 29%, Cruz 24%)

PPP's new Maryland poll finds both Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton with double digit leads heading into next week's primary election.

Trump isn't looking as dominant as he is in New York, polling at 43%. But he's benefiting from a similar dynamic to the Empire State in that there is no clear alternative to him- John Kasich and Ted Cruz are closely matched for second place at 29% and 24% respectively. Trump is by far the most broadly popular candidate among GOP voters in the state with a 57/37 favorability rating compared to 48/35 for Kasich and 33/50 for Cruz. This is a state where even if the field was winnowed to two candidates Trump would still have an advantage- he leads Kasich by 12 points at 53/41 and Cruz by 20 points at 54/34 in head to head match ups.

Another thing that speaks to the indecision among anti-Trump voters is that only 53% of Kasich voters and 49% of Cruz voters say they're firmly committed to voting for their current candidate of choice, compared to 90% of Trump voters who say they're definitely with him. If New York's results tonight give any sort of clarity on the stronger candidate between Cruz and Kasich that could help one of them to gain some momentum in Maryland with so many of their voters willing to shift allegiances.

The people who are really against Trump seem to be married to the GOP itself and it’s foundation, rather than to the ideas right now that will help our country and the most citizens.

I hear people say Trumps not a true conservative or whatever, but quite frankly I don’t care what you want to call him, he’s the type of person our country needs right now. The GOP has been making a slow crawl towards becoming more liberal over the past 8 years, and have not seriously opposed the left on any major platforms.

The betrayal of the so called real conservatives have given rise to Trump, and has drawn people from all parties and belief systems to his campaign.

Jeff, you are a FAR BETTER political prognosticator than I will ever be, but I think it will be too late for Cruz. Folks have learned not to even like him. If he shut it down tonight or at least tomorrow and got behind Trump, then it might work. But the longer he waits and screws with the Trump Train, the more people are going to dislike him.

Frankly, I think Trump can do this without him.

I moved to MD about 6 years ago. Sorry, I needed the job.

Outside of Baltimore and south to DC, most folks are bitter clingers with lots of God and Guns. Mostly good folks. A giant tornado can wipe the southern part of the state away and the net result would be major improvement.

I live on the Eastern Shore of Maryland...a different animal than the Western shore. Still a lot of illegals here, though.

I am most assuredly not married to the GOP. But I am married to conservative principles, as I believe those are the only thing that will bring us back from the brink...not some two bit carny who talks a good game but has never walked the conservative walk a day in his life.

And to all of the other posters who asked about trump winning the south. True, he did, when there were 15 other candidates in the race. Wanna run that race again tomorrow and see how it comes out? Conversely,, wanna run the NE states again three months ago?

Why?

Some of us it’s family. Tradition.

But you won’t find a more ideal climate/geographic situation. The most dangerous thing we have is an occasional rattlesnake and leftover hurricanes, or big snowfalls of you count that. Nothing else happens here.

And we have the best hospital/s in the world.

“Very conservative voters like Ted Cruz”

The question is, Why?

Ted has done little to honestly demonstrate the conservative values he preaches. It’s why he’s losing to a populist like Trump. The voters obviously trust Donald to keep his word, more than they do Ted.

Cruz is toxic in a general election setting. What is so hard about that to understand? He does not appeal to any crossover voters and will get crushed once the national media starts tearing apart his endorsements.

Many many wins at the Supreme Court for explicitly conservative values such as executing an illegal immigrant who murdered a citizen of Texas are obvious demonstrations. That case pitted him against the Bush administration and the so called “globalists.”

Trump’s word is current as of June 2015.

In 2008 and 2010, Trump’s word said that Clinton would make a good President.

Cruz has been conservative since he worked as a clerk for conservative justices on the Supreme Court and College.
